What about Michael and Walt? Well, Walt is going on 30 now, so that might be tough to pull off.
I was disappointed we didn't see them. Or at least Michael, since I know Walt would be difficult to pull off.
I figure the ones we didn't see didn't end up actually being on the plane (such as Shannon) because their circumstances changed and they weren't in Australia or stayed there. Same with Desmond. Obviously, he wasn't on the island, so he very likely could have been going from Sydney to L.A. But for what reason, I have no idea.
I personally like the idea that Jacob is now in Sayid's body. It didn't occur to me until after the show though, but it makes sense. If you look at the "Lost Supper" photo, Sayid is in the spot that Judas occupied. He will betray "Locke" in some way?
This season may boil down to an epic battle between "Locke" and "Sayid". Who to root for???? Which one is good and which one is evil is still TBD (for me at least).
That was a pretty weak way to start the final season off IMO. It didn't answer anything other than Jacob's nemesis/Esau or whatever his name is, is the smoke monster.
So something occurred to me while viewing this episode. And I REALLY hope they don't go this route. So Esau, or whoever this dude is supposed to be, is obviously gonna be the signification of pure evil. He's the black. Jacob is the white.
Here's what worries me. In Christian mythology, yes I said mythology, Jacob and Esau were brothers. Jacob became the father of Isreal. Esau, became the father of, ultimately, the Palestinians. So I'm really hoping we don't come to find out that this mysterious smoke monster/man is actually named Esau. I really don't need any more religious and political overtones intertwined into my favorite show. Thanks.

I don't think they've presented Jacob as pure good at all. He's at the very least grossly manipulative, probably deeply narcissitic, and possibly much worse. It definitely looks like a Jacob/Esau thing, though, but even in the bible those two characters are not defined as being pure good and pure evil, or even particularly good or evil. Jacob manipulated Esau out of his birthright - he won, so to speak, but he wasn't what you'd call pure good. I think this is definitely intended as a reference to that story, that was solidified for me when Esau (Locke V.2) said what he most wanted was to come home, i.e. recover his birthright. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if Esau comes out the winner in the Lost version.
As far as not wanting any religious motifs, this show has been full of them, from many different religions, from the start. I doubt they'll stop now.
It's kind of creepy seeing Ben so broken and confused. Creepy and a little sad.
One thing that I do think is interesting is Locke/Esau kicked Jacob into the fire. So really he killed Jacob, not Ben. I thought about that last season but it didn't really stick. After watching this, I definitely think that there's some other loophole within the loophole that says that Jacob can come back. Which would make sense that he would come back as Sayid, possibly maybe.

So who is in the temple? Are they members of the others, or are they........? I can't wait to see the changes in Sayid. Remember when Alpert was talking to Kate and Juliet about healing Ben as a child? He said that he wouldn't be the same. Will Sayid be even more sadistic like Ben? Or is he Jacob? Personally, I thought it was a good way to start the season. Locke is just bad ass now. I love his swagger, is it Terry Oquinn that plays him? Great acting.
wait I bet the temple inhabitants are the original slaves/people on the Black Rock. I bet all of them are like Alpert. Im guessing that Alpert was a slave.

Interesting thoughts, though I don't necessarily agree with everything he/she says.
And I was a bit frustrated that they found Juliet alive. I've never much cared for her character (too weepy and whiny, as are most of the other female characters on the show) so I wasn't sad to see her die. But I was a bit annoyed to learn that she hadn't died yet. I think there's definitely a reason they let her and Sawyer say their little goodbye (whose relationship has never been believable to me).... I suppose it had to do with what she had to tell him, that "it worked". I suppose we're to believe that she somehow knows there's an alternate timeline?
EDIT: and yay for the return of danbird and vicouscircle to the Lost discussion!

Yeah, poor Ben has basically just been a tool of one brother or the other his whole life, and he's just now figuring that out.
I wish somebody would come back as Juliette. That whole - she's alive! No, she's dea..No! SHE's ALIVE!! Nope, dead - thing was cruel.

Yeah, I don't get that. She has a strange concept of something "working" if that's what she meant. Alternate universe or not, they are still stuck on the island in some fashion.
Also I think Christian or Desmond may be the things to keep the two realities together, kinda like the one singular bond between them.
Did you read the blog I posted? The writer makes mention of a Christian/Desmond connection (but not in relation to the alternate realities).... how Desmond appeared on the plane mid-flight and then disappeared. And then we find out that Jack's dad's body is missing. (Coincidence? Probably not.)

I don't think Desmond was on the plane. I think it was some crazy time thing that Desmond can do. And no I haven't read anything yet besides this and one other forum and both my ideas I came up with by myself. Now I'm going to go around and read everything I can.
Jacob always gives people a choice, and besides Terry O Quinn is too good at playing a bad guy. Sayid/Jack vs. Locke/Sawyer is how this thing is gonna go down.

Richard Alpert is Prometheus from Greek Myth! When the new Locke (Esau?) walked up toAlpert he said it was nice to see him out of his chains. Prometheus stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mortals. Zeus punished him by chaining him to a rock for vultures to eat his liver. His liver would grow back every day becasue he is immortal...this is why Richard Alpert has never aged while the other "Others" have. But if Alpert is Prometheus who is Zeus? The Asian dude? Esau? I also wondered about the smoke monster/Esau somehow representing Pandora's box but there would need to be a female presence to go along with that.
Here is what is even weirder about Alpert as Prometheus. The book Prometheus Rising is about the capabilities of the human mind though mind altering substances and the use of meditation and and other alternative ways of expanding the mind. A lot of it was inspired by the thinking of Timothy Leary "turn on, tune in, drop out". Timothy Leary conducted experiments at Harvard with hallucinogenics and psychedelics with his partner Dr. Richard Alpert.
I haven't read this thread in its entirety so forgive me if I am repeating what someone else has already pointed out. The different levels of this show just blows my mind.
My guess is Sawyer dies soon. His story is completely done, and he's about to go on his own.
You better watch your mouth! Lost is not Lost without a shirtless, sweaty, Sawyer running around looking all brooding and sexy. I finally stopped picking on you and you go shooting off blasphemies like that?!?!?
awwww. i am going to stick up for jack! i think he is a sexy surgeon. sawyer is hot, until he opens his mouth. i feel like all his nicknames for everyone are supposed to be endearing but end up sounding dicky to me.
i am gonna go with doubles of everyone + the religious theory (that i so eloquently explained a couple of pages ago ).
what i am wondering is how did juliet know 'it worked'? did she die and then come back to life? or maybe she had to die b/c she would have been on the other island that was underwater?
does the temple hold value for jacob or smoke monster? b/c we've seen the smoke monster in the temple, but the people seem to be against the smoke monster?

great episode! I was blown away and am glad they started clearing a few things up. I can't tell you how happy i am that they gave somewhat of an explanation for the smoke monster, it was always one of my favorite things in the show.
Another part i enjoyed was seeing what would have happened to everyones life had the flight not crashed. Charlie is arrested, Jin is detained, Jack loses the coffin- It just showed that Locke is truly right that everyone is better off being on the island
Did anyone else notice how uncomfortable Miles was around Sayid's NOT dead body? He picked up on something. Probably that he was not dead, or not Sayid.

Druid, I did not notice that and I watched it twice. It's amazing what some people pick up on that others do not.
Im starting to think that Sayid is still Sayid but he'll be different just from being resurrected. If he was Jacob, I don't think that he would have asked Jack what happened when he woke up.

I'm still thinking he may be Jacob. Or if he's not Jacob, he got some of Jacob's drive/motivation from the spring. I believe will be privotal in bringing down (if that's possible) the Locke-Esau dude. Remember the hippie dude (whose name is Lennon, BTW) said that the note inside the ankh from Jacob said that if Sayid died, they would be in big trouble.

if this is true, i'm wondering why jacob's followers thought he was dead and left them. they should have known he would come back.
