As I'm rewatching season 2, I wonder where the show would have gone if Mr. Eko had stuck around. He was always one of my favorites.
More religious references, maybe? I don't believe any character transcended the greater story, though certainly Jack and Locke were important for the great faith vs science philosophical dichotomy during the series.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
Kinda dropped off on my Lost rewatch due to kids being out of town & the Olympics, but come tomorrow I'm beach bound & my box set is coming with me. Say what you will about the last season & the finale (which I personally liked), there has been no other show that has come along to take Lost's place. Oh, we have a lot of awesome, quality shows we watch, but they're no Lost.
Locke was always my favorite character. I liked Locke because he definitely had flaws, which made him more believable and more human. Plus, I didn't know if we were supposed to like him or not... and I enjoy having that kind of dilemma when it comes to a character.

My kids can't watch anything without assigning themselves characters, be it Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc. For Lost my oldest son says he's Sawyer, my youngest son says Charlie (although he switches to Locke sometimes), & my daughter was Shannon until she changed to Kate. We're going to have to skip that bear cage episode!
Sawyer's character did some OK stuff in the last season, but in general his character was pretty useless. Was never big on Kate either. Jin and Sun are both pretty underrated.
And Desmond...I'm not even into dudes but I am gay for Desmond.

+1 on Desmond love. And what about Bernard and Rose? What a sweet old couple. I liked how they chose to just live out their life on the beach, drama-free. I really respected that. It would be tough to give up on being saved, but making the bold choice to just live happy with what you have is awesome.

Bernard and Rose rocked my socks. Rose was an angel.
That mysterious scene where they stumbled upon Bernard and Rose in their own little camp, having made peace with being on the island and having found happiness just in being with each other, ended up being one of the most effective scenes of the entire series IMO.
here's some more things i've noticed since rewatching:
-the music/sound on the show is great. they played up clutch moments so well with that. -i find myself seeing a TON more symbolism the second time through. but now i'm worried that i'm making these things up to fit? maybe b/c i've always been convinced in the end they kind of just flew by the seat of their pants? haha -sayid is easily second favorite after desmond but i would still make sweet island love to jack shephard.
EAP- Can you give an example of the new found symbolism? I am intrigued to hear. It's things like this that make me want to rewatch the show like you are (someday, I will).
Jack Shepard is beyooond sexy, but I do think Sayid is my numero uno main male character. Though I don't understand what he saw in Shannon.

I definitely have noticed the symbolism on subsequent rewatching. Some that come to my mind first are Locke and Walt playing backgammon early in the show, on the first episode it shows Locke with a grapefruit or orange and then when they crash again he is shown with the same fruit (although this isn't the real Locke).
After the first season there was a website that popped up during the summer. It was fashioned like an airline website. Complete with a place to try to book a flight with Oceanic Air, when you tried to "book a flight" it gave you a message detailing why because of the accident no further tickets were being sold at the time.
There was also a place where you could check the seating chart. It had a diagram of the plane with everyones seats mapped out. When you clicked on a certain characters seat they would flash a preview for that character for season 2.
I remember loving it. A lot.
Wine induced ramble to follow, Also I have to thank Lost for giving me my first overseas internet crush. When the first seasons were airing I joined this message board in the UK called lost.uk.net. I was eventually made a moderator and fell in love with it's operator. Never met him. Never actually talked to him. But spent countless hours emailing and IMing him. He's now married with children. But I'll be forever thankful that I was able to meet him through Lost and the internet. <3 you James Russle from Boston.
I watching season 1 right now on my 3 time through the series. I never noticed this before, but the episode when Sun speaks english in front of everybody for the first time trying to protect Jin there is a flashback and Jin beats up that guy for Sun's father. When he goes into the guys house Hurley is on the TV.
It doesn't have anything to do with the plot. I am just surprised I never noticed that before

like there is a scene where jack falls in the jungle and locke saves him. that made me start wondering how many times in the series do they save each other?
that shannon and boone to me are light (blonde) and dark (boone).
that kate's personal effect from the man she killed is an airplane.
that the surgery that turns jack against his father for good is a spinal surgery and that's the surgery he ends up doing on ben. (never really looked at the jack/ben relationship as a son/father one before.)
nothing too big, just little things like that.
also i agree with the sayid/shannon thing but i guess opposites attract??
