Back when we were both at college my future wife, Cindy and I worked with the concert committee and got to see shows for free. One night after she worked her bit, she went to go into the fieldhouse for the show. The chick at the gate didn't know her and would let her in which led to a big screaming match that left Cyn, in her somewhat altered state, very upset. About this time this guy comes over to try and calm her down. She pretty much tells him to piss off and leave her alone. Later we're sitting down front for the headliner and as they come on stage her starts saying "Oh,my god! Who's that?" "That's Bob Weir, why?"
I don't really like to bother "celebrities" when they're not performing but I've gotten a a pic, handshake or autograph at or before/after shows of They Might be Giants, KT Tunstall, Bono, Alice in Chains, James Hetfield of Metallica, Jason Mraz, and more. I've managed to meet around shows and talk for a few minutes to Willie Nelson, Art Alexakis of Everclear, Ed Kowalszic(sp) of Live (in a bathroom, no less), Amie Mann, Joe Elliot and Phil Collen of Def Leppard, all 3 of Los Lonely Boys.
Non-music related, I've run into and spoken with Robert Wagner (getting gas in 1982) and Louis L'Amour in a Durango CO art gallery. Just shaken hands of many more, especially politicians.

Not many experiences... musicians my list must be way shorter than many of you - Susan Tedeschi, Jackie Greene and Chris Isaac I think is it that is nationally known. I met John Poston from Newhart fame - his sister lived on the street I grew up on. Couple of minor or local politicians over the years... Oh, and Sugar Ray Leonard judged my kindergarten science far and picked me up and kissed me on the cheek
My favorite celeb story makes me look like a fool but it's my brush with a famous person... I used to manage a Body Shop store in like 2001 in the Baltimore Inner Harbor. It was Christmas and the place was PACKED. This guy comes and grabs my arm - shaved head, pegged jeans, bomber jacket and contacts to make his eyes all white and light blue - very freaky especially at 11am in a mall. He says, "Do you know that dude? Omigod I think that's the dude from Rounders!" and I turn around and see a guy with tapered Dad jeans, hiking boots, a barn coat with a hole in it and yellow looking hair in need of a haircut. I hadn't seen Rounders and this guy looked more like a random than a celeb.
So I go to man the register and the guy with the yellow hair comes up with a good $300 worth of stuff - at the Body Shop you know that's a lot of tubs and tubes! And I look at him, normal guy and then he passes me his Amex and I look at the name and finally realize it's Ed Norton. Cool and sassy moi says,
"It's you, like he said it was you but I didn't know it was you but then i look at your card and it's really you!"
Janet Reno Maria Bello Madame Tutu Chris Isaak shook my hand after a show Brendan Canty from Fugazi - when the band isn't touring, he's also an audio engineer and composes music for TV spots. And he went to high school with several people I work with.
i've only ever met dickey barrett from the mighty mighty bosstones. my then-boyfriend and i were waiting in line outside the club before the show. it was october and naturally i wasn't dressed properly and freezing my ass off. so i was all huddled up almost fetal. dickey walked by and asked my bf what was wrong with me. he went inside and came back out with a MMB long-sleeve t-shirt. i don't remember what we said to each other. i was distracted by how short he looked in person. but anyway, i still have the shirt.
thanks dickey! ;D
edit: i saw richard dean anderson (macgyver) a super long time ago at the mall. i didn't talk to him though, so i guess that doesn't count. oh and i saw jewel once at the mall of america, but that doesn't count either.

I met Angela Bassett and saw her topless at the same time. When I was 16 I used to work for a clothing store that had an open dressing room. I was in charge of the dressing room that day, so when she came in to try on a shirt, I saw her boobicles.
The only thing I got to say to her was, "I can take the clothes you don't want." How dorky is that?
I've also met Barry Williams (Greg Brady). Watch it now...I'm getting too awesome here with my celebrity run-ins.
Dennis Miller (sat next to him @ a show) Conan O'Brien The White Stripes (a few times) Jeff Daniels (the OTHER guy in dumb and dumber, my neighbor, well used to be 4 houses down) Iggy Pop Gwar Henry Rollins The Stooges (well not the dead one) Von Bondies The Melvins Richie Havens Arlo Guthrie Norm Macdonald Ted Nugent lol The Secretary Of The Navy

+Karma for considering GWAR celebrities. I'm probably the biggest fan you'll meet.
I haven't met any famous people worth remembering. Or at least right now I can't think of any.

I worked at Starbucks in downtown Boston. I made Dave Matthews a Grande Skim Vanilla latte. No tip..
I made Penn from Penn and Teller a Venti Passion Tea. It's a fruity decaffeinated tea. We discussed the fact that he doesn't drink caffeine. We had a couple of laughs. He gave me a 100 dollar bill and asked for the change in one's and fives. Then he proceeded to sign all of them with a black pen. I didn't get one.
I met Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam in Quebec City, Canada. We talked for a few minutes...and I got a picture with him! ;D

I haven't really met anyone famous......
But my fiance works for Celtic Woman and whenever they come to Nashville, I get to go backstage and hang out with them. If they are in the States when we get married they have offered to sing at our wedding also
Here is their website if you have never heard of them - not usually the kind of music I ever listen to, but their show is beautiful and they have heavenly voices:

One time I when I was younger I was walking down the streets of Miami late at night with my parents and this extremely well dressed man was walking by who I did not recognize, and I said out loud to my mom "that guy looks really rich!" and both my parents glared at me, and the guy stopped and smiled at me and extended his hand and said "Hey there. I'm Boris" and that's it and walked away. I had no idea who any Boris was so I just assumed he wasn't famous but just rich.
After he left, my mom informed me I had just shaken hands with the tennis pro Boris Becker ;D
When I was in college - we had driven to Dallas in the hopes of getting tickets to come concert - can't remember whta it was - anyway - we could not get tickets so we went to Hard Rock to grab a bite to eat and we ended up sitting next to Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers (back when he was still married to her) He was actually a pretty nice guy back then - fun to talk to and very sweet to a couple of star struck college girls.

Back at Cha. Yeah it was 1997 and it was a signing in Detroit RIGHT before a show for Ragnarok I believe? I got to meet Oderus and Beefcake the almighty, when I was 15 lol. Oderus said YEah you can take a picture, in a really hilarious voice, if you hold the cuddlefish. And I did. lol. Sweet show, cool guys. I think they really do smoke crack though however lol. Ever seen their movies?

Dickie's a cool dude. I actually sang a few songs with him on stage (back in the day) at a sold out Electric Factory show in Philly. If I remember correctly, we sang "Very Happy Guy," "Hope I Never Lose My Wallet," and some other song...
The place was going crazy, and all was well... till I decided to do a stage dive. Dickie and Ben Carr egged me on.... Bastards. I'm a bit too big to be turned into a human missile! People tried to catch me, but ultimately, I pretty much got dropped on my head. (That stage is pretty high too!)
Let's see.....I met Charles Barkley when the Sixers had their training camp in Lancaster, PA. I met Reggie White when the Eagles had their training camp in West Chester. And I met Stephen Malkmus at the Roo. That's all I got.
Oh - and Bill Clinton. Was out for a bridesmaids dinner at Oceanaire here in DC and we were seated at a table next to Hillary and Bill and friends. After they were finished eating, we got a picture with Bill. Unfortunately it was with a cell phone camera so was very small and when I blew it up to a decent size, it became very blurry.
I'm second from the left. Bill is second from the right.
