i just dont feel i can vote for biden in good conscience. ive seen enough videos of children being blown to bits. abortion rights is a genuine concern but it just feels wrong voting for someone that evil
"Trump would be worse" isn't great messaging when we are actively funding a country that's killed 14,000 children since October. Orphaned untold amounts of others. Openly committed numerous war crimes. Destroyed the civilian infrastructure of the majority of the strip and left generations of people with a lifetime of trauma.
To be fair to Biden, this is kind of America's thing. So it's not all on him. But to be fair to humanity, this isn't Biden's first rodeo either.

I always go back and forth on this. Sometimes I feel it's insane they haven't put this obvious song on one of the radio stations. But then I think maybe it doesn't quite fit the vibe of a lot of the other music. The Dead version certainly doesn't but the original is closer and was recorded 1962. So right around the cut off of some of the younger New Vegas songs.
Also frankly - I hate to say it but lower turnout benefits the left. Dems are significantly more engaged than republicans. It’s been a real turnaround since 10 years ago (and I’m glad dems haven’t responded by trying to restrict voting rights).
Dems suffer more engagement problems than Republicans tho. Although I agree the energy doesn't seem there with Republican folks... I'm around them all the time. BUT, it doesn't matter. They vote. They show up. Plus, Trump rallies some folks that normally aren't reliable voters. They've actually harmed themselves with their idiotic covid response that killed more of their base and spreading conspiracy theories about the election being stolen that likely has harmed turnout. Regardless, it's mistake to rely on the GOP not being engaged.
As has been said abortion rights is probably what will save the Dems in 2024. Overturning Roe and then turning the screw with idiotic shit like Arizona's 1864 ban is just making it worse. There's a reason some GOP folks are crossing the aisle to repeal it. The GOP's 4 smart people see what a massive misstep it was.
Gaza is going to hurt Biden but I don't think that alone could cost him the election. Americans just don't care enough about foreign policy. His approval on a lot of issues is dogshit. Some of that is just the nature of politics and not really his fault. Some of it is just the lingering dissatisfaction with the way of the world. His terrible foreign policy just adds to the list of things that will discourage some folks from showing up.
I'm on the fence but against all warning signs I don't really feel that Biden's fate is sealed just yet. Having said that I see very little to be positive about. It's going to be close.
Look, I'm voting Biden if he makes it to November. I really can't imagine more Trump reign but this point is important.
You can't keep using the "vote blue or bad things will happen" when you're sending armies of police to go beat student protestors. The footage I've seen is literally the type of response you'd expect when these fucking neo Nazis go marching around and threatening people but no....it's the unarmed students who likely won't fight back and we know are unarmed....that's who we should strongarm.
So sick of this shit
Should also be added that a group of House Dems sent a letter to the board of trustees the day before asking for the camp to be removed. Regardless if this had anything to do with timing, lots of Dems were totally fine with this outcome.
I kinda think the camps have become the narrative. I think the students have maybe embarrassed the universities as much as they're going to and now people are focusing on college campuses and not Gaza. But I don't know. It's obviously tough when the media just sucks shit.
I mostly avoid 24 hour news but I assume it certainly has there. That's about all you can expect. They'll label you and clutch pearls about some dubious aspect that's far from central to what's going on. Then follow that line. NPR had some decent pieces on it this week but they stayed mostly away from the BDS aspect and the fact that some of these orgs are far older than Oct. 7 but it was something. It won't last.
And occupying only goes so far after Spring semester is over. The Colleges can just kick the can and try to outlast the controversy and never take any real actions on divestment, etc. I think Brown is the only one to make anything close to a concession on considering it?
That's not to say it was all in vein or the students are wrong for doing it. I don't believe that. There's plenty of ways this spreads the message locally and online in the short term. But changing tactics will be necessary at some point.
You mean to tell me the Dems are a goddamn joke that stand for nothing? No way!
These people who we disagree with are trying to silence anyone who disagrees with them. What should we do? Silence them. Brilliant!
It probably has something to do with a government and media environment that blatantly ignores dissident voices. Like this isn't a new concept or anything.
Neither is the playbook the media is using right now. Downplaying and ignoring the majority of voices in the movement and focusing anything extreme they catch wind of. Regardless if it's actually coming from a protester or not. I noticed some counter-protester screaming "kill the Jews" being assigned to protesters on national media. So that's about on par.
I really don't want this to become like occupy where the "camps" or taking over space become the entire narrative. For the obvious reason that it takes the focus off where it should be. But it's also just going to burn up people's energy, etc. Having said that this is a perfect example of media bias at work. You could write a book on it. The playbook was so clear from the start.
friend of mine who is a big cinephile recently told me he hasn't watched any tv in years and asked me for recommendations. he is a Criterion type, for example in 2004 he invited me over to watch Seven Samurai. my head kind of exploded. i didn't want to drown him in recommendations but I threw out "The Bear" and "Severance".
how would you respond to this question? what's the best TV of the past few years for a movie lover?
. I don’t watch a ton of stuff. Most I wouldn’t really recommend at all. Mr.Robot sticks out to me for its homages and ability to meld styles.
What week are we shooting for to start back up? I'm gonna be in Spain 5/27 (Monday) to 6/3 (the next Monday). I could probably play on the first Monday from my hotel, though.
Hmmm. Let’s just plan on playing the Monday after you are back?

I’d obviously rather people not set themselves on fire and maybe realize the monorail episode is Conan’s homage to The Music Man and not a secret message about whatever the fuck.
But this is much preferable to people shooting up places of worship and Walmarts because they think “the Jews” are trying to replace white people.
At least the guy didn’t take out his paranoia on innocent people. Is what I’m trying to say.

Sir, you need to find a better way to express your Simpsons telegraphed discovery of a pedophile blackmail cabal that is going to destroy the world economy using crypto.

What Iran’s first attack accomplished was getting Israel to show their hand. Iran now has a better understanding of The weak points. Iran also won’t be firing homemade rockets and shit.

What a deeply unserious group of people. They’ve use funding a genocidal state as a little political football for months… not for any real sense of concern.
But this slogan is somehow problematic enough to take action on. And let’s be clear. This is everything to do with erasing the idea of Palestine. That word is the real issue with the slogan.
so i know this should probably go in the video game thread, but just to emphasize how wild the modding community around Fallout is: i have played Fallout 4 a ton since it came out, but haven't played Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas in a long time. i just got through a Fallout 4 playthrough recently so decided to see what mods are available for Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
there is a modpack called "Begin Again" which is based on a mod guide called "The Tale of Two Wastelands". In addition to modernizing the game graphics a bit and adding other QOL improvements, it combines Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas into one game! Crazy stuff. So now I'm playing this modpack on Fallout 3 and when I complete it it will automagically port my character into New Vegas.
Fallout 3 with this modpack still shows it's age a little bit, but the gameplay is so fun and I'm enjoying revisiting the story.
All this Fallout talk has me wanting to revisit New Vegas...but I just hunted around, and a) it's not available on PS5; b) it's not available for Mac; and c) it's not on GeForce Now.
This is some BS.
There’s got to be a way to port it on Mac with Steam.

I've got to run back over and do a second wipedown of some tile I grouted at my dad's. Could wait till after we are done but I'd rather get it over with and settle for the night.
Let's start at closer to 9. Hopefully I'll get done and be home a little earlier. We should still have plenty of time to finish up this fight and get things worked out.
I’m literally in my Lyft on the way home from Umphrey’s McGee while tripping some balls. Can’t cap the night off any better than opening to see this:[]Gonna have to roll and smoke a J when I get home now.
I'm back on the Biden train. I got the email today saying that my student loans have been forgiven and y'all were right that the Biden administration took action to try to fix the PSLF program. Officially debt free for the first time in my adult life.
I'll hold off a day or two before I read more about this Iran situation so I can celebrate today's news. Then I can go back to Doom and Gloom 2024 on Monday.
