My first daughter is Sarah, which we thought was cute and old-fashioned, but ended up being frighteningly common for girls born in 1989. My youngest daughter is Malia. It's the Hawaiian version of Mary. Very common in the islands, but not on the mainland.
Other suggestions: Fuzzy, Pearl, Willow, and my personal fave -- from the book The Cider House Rules -- Melony.

88, 89, 90 were def. the years for sarah. i can name at least 20 ppl named sarah. thats nuts. still, i love the name and so did my parents... which is why mine is a stem from sarah.
This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo

I love all types of names.. I just don't want something too terribly common.. I'm Kristen Nicole, and there were 3 other girls in my graduating high school class with the same first name & middle name.
I was supposed to be Arabella, because my mom is Moroccan and her sisters have cool, un pronouncable names, like Henea, Hafida, Najit, Naima, etc.
But I like these:
Bailey for a girl.. or even a boy, lol. I love that name!
Sloane.. I think it's classy and sophisticated, yet still has a modern twist.
And I love the name Hannah Noelle.. sooo pretty I think! If I ever use that name, I'm hoping by that time the whole "Hannah Montana" craze will be over, which would be a few years. Or she could just go by Noelle ;D
^my moms car (and all of her previous cars) have been named arabella. I was just thinking yesterday how ive never actually heard of anyone with that name

haha, what a coincidence!
it would have been a very unique name, yet I would live my life with teachers always mispelling it, the bank tellers mispronouncing it.. i mean, it still would have been cool.

just make sure she doesnt name her kid "jenna talia"
no joke, my ex bf's friends sister actually made that mistake.
NO way. Well, that really sucks!
I like John's way of going through old baptismal records or a bible or whatever old things you have access to. Great-grandparents' names can be pretty cool, especially. I'm a cemetery person, and it might not be for everyone, but I think cemeteries are awesome places to find names. I've found &/or grown attached to several I've seen on stones.
And, omg, that wallyworld list you put up, Bec, has almost ALL of my larger-than-will-ever-be-needed collection of preferred names!!! I keep reading, and bam, there's another one! I thought had to be the only freak who liked Llewellyn & Sudie!!
Congrats to your friend, Ashley Elizabeth! My best friend just found out she was pregnant today (!!!) & we spent some time talking about names. The worst thing is when you picked out a name when you were young, but then you met someone somewhere along the way who totally ruined that name for you!!! SO thanks to my quacking Ann Coulter of a boss back in '01, I will never have a little Abby of my own!!!

lol yeah, it might not work. I have no idea how you go about changing your kids names though. She must have liked the name though, and maybe with some tweaking and stuff she can still keep the general gist of it without having to resort to all that legal stuff if possible lol

Well, I think Jessica is a really awesome name..but I'm a little biased ;D. Anyway, I know that my name was really, really common the year I was born, but I love it. The reason I love it is that I'm not named Jessica because it was popular - I'm named Jessica because of the Allman Brothers song I still LOVE listening to it and I want the Allman Brothers played at my wedding.
Because of this, I really want to name my children after songs. One that I really like, and kind of an old-fashioned classic, is Lucy. I also like Piper, Ava, Ivy, Violet, Lily, Adrienne...I love old lady names. My mom is going to kill me when I have kids, haha.
My mom teaches a girl named Chrysanthemum. Please, please, don't do that to your children!
