Some actually seem disappointed by this lineup over at the Coachella board. They suggest that promoting two separate major festivals spread things too thin.
I think the lineup is really good. Roger Waters and Jack Johnson shows a new adventurouness towards a differet audience. Portishead, Verve, Death Cab, Fatboy Slim, Love and Rockets, MMJ, Kraftwerk, Man Man, some sweet hiphop...I like this.
I got to say...this looks more like an expanded Pitchfork lineup than Coachella. It's not that the lineup is bad. It's that this is Coachella and there are a definite lack of big name acts there. Last year's lineup was stacked compared to this year's...
"The long-awaited announcement regarding this year's Coachella Festival has finally taken place, and apparently the big name the organizers got this year was ... Roger Waters? Who will be recreating Dark Side Of The Moon on the festival's main stage? Yeah, really. (What was that I said about festivals being totally over in '08 again?) Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. PT; other names on the 125-act bill, via the Los Angeles Times' Soundboard blog and URB, after the jump. (For those of you who think that Roger Waters is a little too old for Coachella: Don't worry, Love and Rockets are on the bill, too!"
i like the fact that they dont have the huge names... rage was grand and all but...eh nvm i wont start lol. and rhcp eh...and bjork was cool- but when they wrap all that cash into the headliners the supporting acts arent as good, the promoter of the festy even said they were making the festival not so big name oriented but instead trying to make people hear new stuff- maybe the crowd will change a lil this year :-P
Yeah...you have to think the promoters at Sasquatch have to be licking their chops right now. If they nab R.E.M. or Radiohead to headline along with The Cure (who've been promised an epic 2 1/2 hour Sunday slot), it's going to vault that festival up to another stratosphere...

kraftwerk (on the main stage) ;D ;D
That's one of the things I'm most excited about. I don't really know much about the Coachella layout but wouldn't this mean that Kraftwerk & Portishead will play back-to-back rather than at the same time?
the funny thing is Love & Rockets were around back in mid-eighties... it's a spin-off of Bauhaus
Yeah, it was Daniel Ash, David J, and Kevin Haskins. They are nothing like Bauhaus though. They were more like Jesus and Mary Chain with a power pop sound. I seen them with REM in 89 and wasnt impressed.

Seventh Dream of A Teen-age Heaven was one of the first TAPES I ever bought with my own money... I wore that thing out and just replaced it... thanks to Demonoid (RIP)

The supporting acts last year were bigger than a lot of the headlining acts this year. Last year's supporting acts by day: Friday(Bjork): Interpol, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Arctic Monkeys, Jarvis Cocker, DJ Shadow, Faithless Saturday (RHCP): The Arcade Fire, Tiesto, Travis, The Good the Bad and the Queen, The Decemberists, The Rapture, LCD Soundsystem, Gotan Project, Kings of Leon Sunday (RATM): Manu Chao, Happy Mondays, Air, Willie Nelson, The Roots, Crowded House, Kaiser Chiefs, Paul van Dyk, Damien Rice
I mean, last year's lineup was stacked, top to bottom.
I think they probably have a few more midlevel acts, but mostly, I think they spread themselves too thin with the East Coast fest...
