His DJ set was really great (as always) but it was just too friggin hot in there after being out in the sun all day so we just went to get a nightcap at somewhere with AC. The Roots show at APW was one of the best I have seen in awhile.
but i have to say, if it werent for radiohead (and underworld) , i probs wouldnt be going to this...
Uhh......
....duh?
Hrrrm - not for me. I think Jack Johnson, Trey, Sia, The New Pornographers, Lily Holbrook, Ben Harper and The Roots (among others) probably all put on great shows this weekend.

Well I was there on Saturday.
Venue was OK. It had nice views of the skyline and Statue of Liberty, but it would have been nice if the stages had been facing those directions. Seeing as how this was essentially a glorified Radiohead show for me I didn't really care too much about experiencing the festival and didn't get to the site until about 3:45 (the search at the main entrance was ridiculous, BTW--took me like 45 minutes to get through that line). Saw Animal Collective, who were interesting, to say the least. I sort of enjoyed them though, at least at their most lucid points. Then sat through Kings of Leon to get a decent spot for Radiohead. Thought they were pretty boring but ended up with a pretty good spot, maybe 100 yards from the stage.
Then Radiohead. Ohhhh man. I think at this point they are simply incapable of giving a bad performance--there are merely the very good and the great. And this one definitely qualified as the latter. Truly epic. I was on the lawn at the rain-soaked debacle that was the Nissan Pavilion show and this more than made up for it. It started off kind of slow for the first 30-40 minutes, the crowd wasn't very into it and the songs weren't the most exciting. I thought The National Anthem as the third song would have started things up a bit, but it didn't. But everything from No Surprises onward was pure money. The No Surprises-->Jigsaw-->The Bends trio was absolutely brilliant. Jigsaw might have been the highlight for me--they really ripped the sh!t out of that one. Finally got to hear Airbag. Idioteque as a closer works amazingly. All in all a magical performance. Anyone there on Friday? From what I've read on the web the concensus seems to be that Saturday was better, but I'd love to hear a report about Friday.

apw was what it was.
what did suck was the beer situation, and i felt/feel for those who wanted to drink when there. i heard (but am not sure of this so dont count on it) that it was some sort of law for liberty island. the bathroom situation could have been better, but we found the bathrooms behind the 2nd stage (in between the first stage and the main stage) and those were decent and lines were never more than 3 people for me, always had toilet paper, and there was little running water sinks with soap that you could wash your hands with.
planning could have been better, but it was the first time its been done, so gotta cut them a tiny bit of slack. i will say that the views of the city were incredible, and the sound was also incredible.
there was also free water stations, which was drinkable, and great, and close to the main stage. the vibe was decent (for what it was) for a nyc non camping festival i met some really nice people, and had a fun time. i loved the late night dance party in the flowery lit up area that raged after radiohead both nights..... all and all i went in with few expectations and came out quite pleased. HOWEVER the beer thing did blow. good thing i had friends with flasks of booze .
Thom's voice is of another planet. its not fair to other musicians and singers how good this band is. radiohead is mind blowingly insane. like, they are seriously one of the best bands ever, on the planet and other planets and other galaxies. i dont even know how they do what they do. everything down the stage setup, the state of the art equipment, the sound, thoms voice, the songs, soooooooooooooooooooooo good. also i want to say that ive never heard a crowd so quiet in my life than saturday night during exit music. you could hear a pin drop. such respect. it was intense. id say last nights show was a bit better than friday but honestly both were mind blowing. street spirit, exit music, all i need, and fake plastic trees were the highlights for me, and idiotec (night 2s i enjoyed more) and the weather couldnt have been better. all in all, i was pleased, but will be surprised if it comes back a 2nd year.
here are a few pics: joshua jackson on line for the ferry:
me and my brother and cuz in front of the main stage before radiohead, during Kings of Leon (who were awesome)
radiohead light show was INCREADIBLE these pics seriously do it no justice at all.
my brother took this picture, we still dont know how.

^^^sparkly-good pics! Your family menz is cute ...I dont know how you live up there, with constant crowds...I know NYC is great, but I gots to have some space. My sis lives there too-up near the village in a shoebox. She works for a publishing company. Why do you think they wont have it again? Did it not sell huge?
I went on sunday, There beer did suck, i talked to a cop about it and it was some rule about state parks. I did come up with a great idea of washing off the purple ink right away so really i had an unlimited supply of wristbands and a purple thumb this morning...
I really enjoyed Trey's show alot and make the day worthwile.
I was a bit disappointed in food selection (but did not need eat)
All in all i thought it was a good time, met some cool people and had fun...

i dont know about apw again, i think the big draw was radiohead, i dont know... i guess we will see
Welcome... One other note I forgot to post about is: I have been taking the ferry to work (knee is still screwed up so the cost is worth it) And yesterday morning pier 11 was littered with 50+ wristbands, and it just made me laugh...so many people did not take advantage of their 5 drinks!
^ I didn't drink one drop of beer or alcohol at the festival. I actually liked the beer situation. They made it so difficult to get, it made me genuinely not care if I drank. I save a ton of money not drinking. Of course I had enhancements that didn't need alcohol to support them :0)

Yeah, I only bought one beer at Bonnaroo this year but I drank every day I was there. I was lucky to have a friend camped very near the ferris wheel so I didn't have far to go to get to my cooler stashed there and my camelback was usefull for drinking inside Centeroo. Then at All Good, the volunteer camping was very close to the stages and the camelback did its job as well. Also enhancements limited my need for large quantities of alcohol
