Why in God's good name are more people not talking about this festival??? This is arguably one of the best festival lineups this summer!! You people are crazy with your long All good and Lollapalooza threads. Lollapalooza doesn't sniff the asscrack of Outside Lands! Get with it people!
Also, hope to see some of you in San Fran. It's gonna be a helluva time.
Granted I'm only going to Friday and Saturday, Sunday is anticlaimatic IMHO.
Here's my breakdown:
Friday for the pure build up:
Lyrics Born (Get the funk out of here)
Steel Pulse (Reggae thunder)
Cold War Kids (Alternative cutting edge)
The Black Keys (Millennium grunge)
Manu Chao (Dance Hall ecstasy)
Beck (New Age Neil Young)
Radiohead (Heralded saviors of pushing new limits to this thing called music)
Saturday for eclectic all day vibe:
The Coup (Underground hip hop esteemed by media)
Kaki King (new world sensation)
Matt Nathanson (pop infused sounds)
Galactic’s Crescent City Soul Krewe (Adding “Crescent City Soul Krewe” to their name should say it all)
Regina Spektor (chill out moment)
Lupe Fiasco (we all want to be a Superstar)
Steve Winwood (have you heard that singe “Dirty City”, DAMN!)
Primus (We all need a little more bass in our lives with the origin of Les)
Ben Harper (Finally has earned the clout to be Marley’s heir to the thrown)
Tom Petty (Only thing to wonder is what the setlist will be and who will join him on stage)
Sunday, ehhh:
I’ll save my money and go to the FREE Bluegrass festival in October at the same location as the OLF for more electricity than this lineup puts off. The only exception is Wilco. Come on, having Jack Johnson close a festival is like eating Vanilla after you have all other 31 flavors of ice cream. After seeing him prior to Pearl Jam at Bonnaroo he should just make one song at this point and play it for 60 minutes. I like the guy he just gets overshadowed when all these other people step on the stage. Just my humble opinion.
If any of you are traveling into to the Bay Area for OLF and need help with any information feel free to ask.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
I really wish Sunday was that easy for me. Friday is stacked for certain, but sunday is not as weak as you may think. BSS,The Cool Kids, Bon Iver, Grace Potter ... Seriously. You may wanna rethink about that day.
And I amy take you up on that offer. I haven't been to SF in years...
^Maybe it's just because a bunch of the Sunday bands just played 'Roo or that it was tough enough scheduling two days to get away. Don't get me wrong Sunday has some talented musicians I just pick Friday and Saturday as my priorities and I saw half of Sunday a few months ago.
^ Ryan Adams is playing Saturday the 23rd, so that mean you miss Petty & Harper and get to see Jack. It's sold out BTW. I wish Adams was playing Sunday or a different day, I'm sure it's going to be an incredible show especiallya t the Fillmore.
Scalping is hit and miss, i wouldn't deal with scalpers at the venue (cops can be jerks and you can end up with a fake ticket). I would do Craigslist or Ebay and sometimes they will release tickets the day of the show.

More artists added: Cake, Los Amigo Invisibles, Benevento/Russo Duo, Thriving Ivory and Sila & the Afrofunk Experience.
So now on Friday (a short day) I have to figure out how to work around Radiohead, Beck, Manu Chao, Steel Pulse, Lyrics Born, and The Duo. I love having problems like this.
Again, I hope a schedule comes out soon. When I travel across the country for Bonnaroo, I'm part of a small group that can move swiftly and strike with tactical precision. But when they throw the party in my friggin' back yard, I have to adapt to the large group dynamic.

CAKE! Love this addition, since they are from Sacramento probably an easy trek. Even though McCready is one of the biggest jerks I love their sound and originality. Frank Sinatra baby!
I feel you on the local aspect. We have about 15 people going, I've never enjoyed going to any festivals with more than 6 people. Too much work trying to coordinate then you have your late people, the people that don't care too much about one band or another, and the people that you want to leave in a corner to deal with antisocial/drama issues.
Now what's weird is how Friday starts at 5pm??? Luckily that helps me as I have to work in the AM but I'm dying for a schedule as I have no idea how many stages/conflicts we are going to have.
It will be interesting how many complaints the city of SF will get. Golden Gate Park is surrounded by neighborhoods of homes and the sound will echo for miles. I'm sure this is one of the reasons they have never had a night gig in the park.
A few years ago when the Rolling Stones played at the SF Giants stadium the city got a bunch of neurotic fools complaining so I'm sure this will test the decibels of San Franciscans. Haven’t heard if there is a curfew, which would suck as that could mess with the headliners time if things don't go exactly smooth.

Wow, Friday is really amazing. Black Mountain, The Black Keys, Manu Chao, Beck, Radiohead. Might be the best single day of any festival in the country this year. Too bad I live 3000 miles away...

gonna have to second this thought.
i should have thought ahead and figure out some way to have my job pay for the flight. i could have stayed with my cousin, so that would be free....

I just started checking out Black Mountain, only spinned it once and don't know what to make of it (a good thing) but has some cool guitar work.
Beck doesn't cease to amaze me. The new album has some cool elements of past and new and love the tinge of surfer music on a couple tracks.
