this is a non camping fest right? i want to check this out, as it would provide the perfect opportunity/reason to visit San Fran which i have to do at some point.
^^I don't think so. Just taking the place of Vegoose, which didn't really compete with Coachella at all. Alot of the same artist over the years but over all timing of the fest (August for OL and Oct. for Vegoose) means they are just trying to do something different. I don't think we will ever see a day of DMB being the headliner at Coach. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think so.
And candyflipped it's a non camping fest but I can point you in the direction of cheap hotels if you're interested.
Poop. This is what's being rumored via clues 'Ranger Dave' is giving on his twitter. twitter.com/sfoutsidelands The Apples in Stereo Blind Pilot Calexico Cold War Kids The Dead Weather The Dodos Jason Lytle Heartless Bastards Kinky M.I.A. The Mermen The Morning Benders The Roots Ween
They are doing a full blown Dead tour right now, it seems pretty out of the question for them to be scheduling side project shows as well, but hey stranger things have happened....
Dave Matthews, Beasties, Pearl Jam For Outside Lands Fest Beastie Boys add another festival to their summer schedule. April 13, 2009 11:13 AM ET David J. Prince, N.Y. Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band and the Beastie Boys will headline San Francisco's second Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival, to be held Aug. 28-30 at Golden Gate Park. M.I.A., Modest Mouse, the Mars Volta, Black Eyed Peas, Ween, Thievery Corporation, Incubus and Jason Mraz are also in the lineup, it was announced today (April 13).
Tickets and passes go on sale April 19 at sfoutsidelands.com, with a pre-sale taking place April 15-18.
Other acts scheduled to perform include TV on the Radio, Tom Jones, Built To Spill, Calexico, The National, Q-Tip, Deerhunter, Heartless Bastards, Blind Pilot, Mastodon, Trombone Shorty and Dengue Fever. Local acts such as The Dodos, The Morning Benders, Brett Dennen, John Vanderslice, Raphael Saadiq and SambaDa are also on the bill. More artists will be announced at a later date.
Last year's inaugural Outside Lands featured Radiohead, Tom Petty, Jack Johnson, Manu Chao and Ben Harper among many others.
Outside Lands is produced by Superfly, Another Planet Entertainment and Star Hill Presents, in partnerships with the San Francisco Recreation & Park Department.
Despite the economic climate, Superfly partner Jonathan Mayers says that he's "very optimistic" that the event will have a strong year.
"We're setting our expectations where we understand that it's a very challenging economy out there," Mayers told Billboard last week, "so we're not taking anything for granted."
The initial Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival lineup is:
Pearl Jam Dave Matthews Band Beastie Boys Incubus Black Eyed Peas M.I.A Jason Mraz Ween The Mars Volta Thievery Corporation Modest Mouse Band of Horses TV on the Radio Dead Weather Atmosphere Tom Jones Silversun Pickups The National Q-Tip Brett Dennen Built To Spill Mastodon Raphael Saadiq Calexico Os Mutantes Midnite JJ Grey & Mofro Kinky Deerhunter Lila Downs Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue The Dodos Bettye LaVette Dengue Fever Heartless Bastards The Dirtbombs Lenka Akron/Family John Vanderslice Matt and Kim Portugal. The Man The Morning Benders The Duke Spirit Zee Avi Blind Pilot SambaDa Ryan Bingham West Indian Girl Extra Golden
Uh ... Tom Jones! Seriously. Wow. I gotta let this all sink in. For me, Second best line up I have seen all year. Superfly really is pushing the envelope with this years edition.

yea nice lineup. i think i get smited every time i say this, but a lot of the fests this year have a better lineup (on paper) than bonnaroo. but when i say that i mean there might be more bands that i like on the other lineups, but none of them top the experience of bonnaroo. the set lengths and the late nights and the whole vibe of the farm give bonnaroo the edge.
I'm the opposite of moderate, immaculately polished With the spirit of a hustler and the swagger of a college kid Allergic to the counterfeit, impartial to the politics Articulate but still would grab a ni**a by the colla quick
Massively underwhelmed by the top of that bill. Incubus, Black Eyed Peas and Jason Mraz?
I will give Superfly props for beating ACL to the punch with this announcement as they have the exact same headliners C3 tabbed and were planning on making their announcement in a couple weeks.
The lineup does very little for me, but I am pumped to see Os Mutantes on the bill. Hopefully that means they are progressing on that new album and will be announcing a tour at some point.

I can do without Black Eyed Peas/Jason Mraz but I think they redeem themselves a bit by getting popular acts that aren't already on several festival lineups. Modest Mouse, Ween, Incubus, and a few others fit this idea as well, but with more artistic merit.
The tom Jones thing really blows me away. I dont think he makes it out to the festival setting too often. I think it would be hilarious and awesome (both!) to see him in this kind of environment.

What the quack can we trade somebody on the bonnaroo lineup for Incubus I have always wanted them at roo and now they are at outsidelands, also Tom Jones I had to run and tell my mom because shes a big tom jones fan that is funny, but on the downside I could seriously do without Black Eyed Peas, and whats with MIA and Jason Mraz being billed so high I mean they are fine performers but neither have done something so amazing to be billed that high, also these are the 3 same headliners as ACL festival, the only downside to this fest is the curfew times, which will cut down the set times for artists to 1 hour mostly except for headliners and maybe preheadliners. Still can we get some Incubus and built to spill at roo!!
