ECHO last year was one of our favorite festivals yet...can't wait to hear what's happening this year...
Echoing the other warnings: bring a really really really warm sweater, coat, whatnot for the nights...I actually don't mind when it gets freezing at night since you can just wrap yourself in more things but at Roo where it's too damned hot to sleep past 7am, that's where I get miserable...
And LOL, ya, the dust during Michael Franti WAS insane and he kept telling us all to jump up and down (which we did)...it was like the dustbowl in there <grin>
lol i remember that dust bowl during Franti.. It was insane how much dust we were bringing up.. I couldnt even breathe at one point.. but still insane and alot of fun..

Atlanta had Music Midtown for years. It was a good festival that brought in tons of national acts and always showcased the local popular local acts. Eventually, the festival ran its course, people lost interest, the promoters grew weary of the hassle, and eventually it ended. Too bad, but probably necessary. Take a decade off and then come back with another festival for another 10 years.
However, for a couple years after Music Midtown there would be some sort of free or cheap summer concert series set up in Centennial park. There would be bands such as Cypress Hill, Cake, They Might Be Giants, Blues Traveler. Now they don't even have that. It would be nice if they would bring back one of those concert series. I feel cheated that Birmingham has the Flaming Lips coming to their music festival, Memphis has the Roots/Santana, Lexington has Tortiose/Method Man, and Atlanta -the largest city in the south can't maintain a decent festival or concert series.
hey, i just wanted to let you guys (and everyone else) know in case you haven't heard about the soco music experience...it's a free one-day festival at centennial olympic park in atlanta on may 17th starting at 3. ghostland observatory, one of my new favorite bands is going to be there, and they are amazing, so everyone in atlanta should make it a point to come out!! i made a thread about it in case you guys want more info.
sorry for the duplicate posts, i just wanted to share the good news! i hope everyone can come ;D

I was cringing everytime he said jump.
I wanna see everyone COUGHIN, er, um, I mean JUMPIN!!!!
so, I got really excited this morning when I went to my email and found a message from the echo project. It turns out it was just their ticket agent trying to sell me tickets to AMJam in Ashville (which actually sounds pretty cool, but is this weekend so I'm sol on that). I checked their myspace page today too, and I notices that the site hasn't had any comments added since Feb. which either means they're very unpopular, or no one is even logging in to approve comments. I'm starting to think it's not happening this year folks, and my heart is aching because I really loved last year and was planning to go this year too. I had planned on Echo being the festival I was going to watch grow like Bonnaroo has. Anyone have any theories on this?
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting, "Holy sh*t ... what a ride!"
i will be so disappointed if they dont have echo this year. its the most retarded thing in the world if the dude went to europe to learn how tho throw big fests. the way to throw big fests is to get 12000 people to come to your first one with short notice and almost no national advertising and making a great experience. word of mouth alone will double that for year 2. but the best way to kill it would be to skip year 2 to go to euro fests. oh well time will tell i guess. but i really hope they have it!

I'm guessing that Claypool will make an appearance. However, I'm putting forth the possibility that Primus might be a headliner. Les said he had a blast at Echo and now that Primus is playing newer festivals and one-off gigs I think there's a chance.
This is one-hell-of a guess, but for some reason I think it could happen.

I really doubt that'll go through. Contrary to popular belief Echo sold a lot more tickets and made a lot more money than they expected. They also paid for a ten-year permit to have the festival.
Where did you guys here about the promoter going to Europe?

It was on the Disco Biscuits' message board. There were people on there who said it was definitely not happening and those who said it definitely was.
The Echo Project's MySpace still says 2008 dates coming soon, but nobody has signed on to the account since February. Also, someone started another thread on here saying that he emailed Meatcamp Productions asking if it would be back, and their response was "Come to Camp Bisco!!!!!!!!!! That is the only advice I can give you. Trust me..... :0"
So, all in all, it doesn't look terribly promising . . . but, they didn't announce until July last year, so there's still hope.
By the way, hey roolacksreality! Haven't seen you on here in awhile. This is Hilari a.k.a. TheLogLady. I finally broke down and started a new account. Josh/OatmealSchnapps still hasn't, but I'm sure he'd say Hi if he was here right now. If you're in Atlanta for the summer, you should give us a call some time.
However, they still have the 2007 Dates (Monday Oct 15) in the actual description, so I am guessing they don't know much more than we do at this point.
I have emailed asking if they have confirmation of the festival happening and dates. I will update here if/when I get a reply.
UPDATE: Wow. Super fast reply from Mr. BusDriver. They don't have any official word yet on what Echo is going to do this year. bah. hopes dashed.

My boyfriend and I were assigned artist transpo as our volunteer shift this year. One of the van drivers, who apparently is pretty involved with artist transpo at a lot of festivals, said the organizers were planning not to do it in the fall, but instead on Memorial Day weekend 2009. He said that there was too much competition between Voodoo and other fests.
