What a huge disappointment. I'm almost considering not going to Bonnaroo this year, and I had been planning on going regardless of the line up. It frustrates me to no end to see these boring jam bands added to the lineup when there are so many other great artists out there. Coachella owns Bonnaroo this year- they got it right. They added people like Prince and Aphex Twin, we got a jam band that the majority of us are sick of. It's going to take me a while to get over this, it might be the last straw for me. I wasn't expecting anything HUGE, like Clapton, but I thought they would pull in a decent replacement for the Allman Brothers and a few other good artists. It's going to take me a while to get over this.

Go to Coachella then. Simple.
The logistics of traveling to California are very different than traveling to TN for many of us. Also note, he wasn't saying he preferred to Coachlella line-up; he was merely pointing out the fact that Coachella has thrilled its fans with suprising, exciting announcements, meanwhile AC/Superfly hyped up their announcement, which was of a much lesser calliber. Although I'm sure everyone appreciates your smartass remarks.
lol this new crowd is funny ill say that. 4 boring ass jam bands is too many??? at least roo can serve some purpose. its good for a laugh. festie land really needed a laughing stock and roo does nicely.

Exactly. I was pointing out how Coachella handled this year in a professional manner. I hate to admit that to, because I have always defended Bonnaroo against Coachella. There is no way I can take a week or more off of work and spend money on airfare to go to Coachella anyway.
I'm thinking about skipping the Roo and going to so shows in the area about the time Bonnaroo rolls around. The Breeders play the Orange Peel Thursday, June 12th and Robert Randolph's Revival is Friday, June 13th.
I will never go to Coachella or probably any other Festival other than Roo at this point. The "vibe" at Roo is different then the others and at 36, I'm not in a position to start "testing" out other festivals. The logistics to get to Roo from the North east has been perfected at this point. No worries getting there, or leaving there.
I would have been fine with the original lineup if the entire Zep fiasco didn't happen. I was even GREAT with the lineup AFTER I recovered from the Zep stuff. But to throw fuel to the fire like this last HORSE CRAP, was only leading to disapointment for the majority. I'm going and will have a great time. I wish they never said they were adding anyone, then no expectations. Pretty cruel to the faithful if you ask me. And it was not only here that people were expecting a "BIG" announcement. I saw it discussed on many other boards.

Dude, I love how you show-up opportunistically and complain about everything even though you probably aren't going. It really makes these boards a lot better. Thanks.

Here's hoping they headline Sunday night again so we can beat the traffic home. Other than that, no complaints. I love Bonnaroo and there's at least 15 acts I really, really want to see.

I still don't think that superfly blatantly hyped this announcement up. They did not put any emphasis on big, they did not use a more powerful adjective (ie "unforgettable" or something along those lines). They merely said that there would be a big announcement on Thursday, and that it was exciting.
I could say that I have "big and exciting" plans for tomorrow, and just mean that i'm going out to eat at a decent restaurant for a change. Nobody would hear me say big and exciting and then think I'm traveling to another country or anything intense like that.
So everyone blaming Superfly for misleading them into thinking that Led Zeppelin was going to show, just look in the mirror and blame that person. They're the ones that took some information and blew it up. But as I've said before, this is Inforoo... and I expect everything to be blown up and overanalyzed. That's partially why I'm here

But what "fuel" was added? They lost ABB and knew they had to make up for it somehow. It's all subjective but yeah, I think the announcements yesterday are "big."
The only way this announcemnt was overhyped was by all the sewing circles on message boards...
I saw the news about 5 this morning. I was a little disappointed for a few hours but now im back on my feet and ready for bonnaroo again. I really don't care if they add anyone else. Although i don't think widespread for allman bros. is a good trade off but since they threw in les claypool and chali 2na....i'll take that $hit.
i really think the whole led zeppelin rumor deal really killed the vibe of bonnaroo this year.
It's going to be a wonderful time just like it always is.

(go ahead smite me, I'm going to class)
lol im in the "im really dissapointed" thread and im the complainer???? hows that work??? i like the additions
and the after thought about the smite was nice. i love the karma carers. they are a funny bunch. what class is that? 6th grade social studies?

I don't blame superfly for anything... they are fantastic.... i'm just sick of wsp. Why not just move phil to close the thing... 2006 was fantastic with phil closing...
that would have made sense. especially after the show phil put on at langerado. i really think that its a ticket sales move. no one was feeling jack closing it at all and superfly knows that outside of religious conservatives and people over 60 the festival crowd is the largest group of poeple not attending their festival. wsp helps out a bit.

Yeah, I don't see Dude smiting anyone anytime soon given his past run-ins with mad smiters.
I think the main issue I have with these announcements, beyond the let down after the promise of a big announcement, is that they seem to be making this move back towards the base a little too late. Most of the people I know who were disappointed by the lack of this kind of additional round have already bought tix for other fests and made other plans. I mean, I could be wrong, but I just don't see two acts that are already playing the fests they're going to changing their minds at this point.
That is to say, if they'd announced Les from the start, and then replaced ABB with WSP and not made a big deal about the announcement, I don't think you'd have the backlash. But given this is the year when people were pissed that they booked Metallica and Jack Johnson as headliners and disappointed that, despite initial press releases, Led Zeppelin and Mars Volta aren't on the bill, this announcement is just a whole lot of 'so what' mixed with a little bit of 'too late.'
Herbie Hancock and Neil Young are 'big' additions worthy of earth shattering announcements. WSP and Les Claypool, while festival favorites, don't necessarily qualify as big news to most who are already going to the festival.
Widespread Panic is still a better headliner than Metallica. I really think they should just sell off both of them, put Jack back on Sunday, and put Kanye on Friday. Or get someone like Paul McCartney or Nine Inch Nails.
That said, I still have a long list of bands to see, so the way I see it, it just potentially lessens conflicts.
Check it: Kanye West My Morning Jacket Death Cab Sigur Ros Cat Power M.I.A. The Bluegrass Allstars Iron & Wine Yonder Mountain The Swell Season Talib Kweli Gogol Bordello Broken Social Scene Robert Randolph Lupe Fiasco Drive-By Truckers MSTRKRFT !!! The Avett Brothers Ladytron Aimee Mann Jose Gonzalez Battles The Sword Nicole Atkins MGMT The Lee Boys Rogue Wave
Plus there's Zach Galifianakis and Chris Rock. And The Whigs are yet to be officially put on the lineup.

I really can't believe that people are complaining about Widespread Panic. I lurk on these boards every now and then and the amount of complaining and bitching is outrageous. If you don't like the line up then sell your fuckin ticket. No one wants to see a bunch of spoiled assholes bitch non stop.
super fly def didnt hype this announcement, everyone here hyped this shit to kingdom to come. all the completely baseless phish, NIN, RATM, LZ rumors got everyone so pumped that no matter who got announced if it wasnt one of those people would be pissed. but in the end its our own fualts that we are dissapointed.
Lineup announcements are aways the big setup for the big let down. I mean With any addition SOMEONE will be disappointed. It's just the nature of the buisness
Another thing: Bonnaroo has yet to announce Bonna Rouge. And they still have a another round of artist additions, seeing as The Whigs and Datarock are set to play
I agree about the announcements are always a letdown thing, but we had our hearts ripped from our chests in February regarding the Zeppelin fiasco. And this got people back into that "mode," only to be very disappointed again. I wouldn't have thought twice about WSP headlining had they not set aside time to ANNOUNCE it.
I dont really see such a big problem with this, I mean, it was originally gonna be JJ closing sunday which is pretty weak, and now they have WSP closing which is pretty weak.
