i dunno JJ could bring out Eddie Vedder.. who would totally save that set.. but WSP is a bust. is there no other band worthy of closing out an awesome year? what about MULE?

how about anyone who hasn't already played five times?
Well...tho I can sympathize with the no WSP love....why would you WANT to leave 'roo early unless you have to??
You can just come hang with us during WSP...I know I won't be there...and there will probably be quite a few others....I'm sure we can probably get up a good glow frisbee game going...or Aly and I are STILL hell bent on finding a moon bounce this year! ;D
I am disappointed also. I am not a fan of WSP at all, or Jack Johnson. This will be my first time to go to Bonnaroo this year though, so I know I'll have a good time either way.
I gotta say, I'm pretty bummed out. WSP isn't bad, I was just expecting something more. I still think they're hiding some tricks up their sleeves.
They're not really pulling their thumb off, it's the thumb of the other hand. There's no money behind your ear. Also, your nose has been on your face this whole time.

I'm not disappointed in the addition itself, but I'm quite disappointed in Superfly for making such a mess of it - I can't believe they didn't learn their lesson about all the hype/clues/rumors. And I would rather see JJ close than a rerun of last year's ending.
I'd suspect that ABB dropping out left AC/Superfly in a bit of a jam (heh) and WSP was there to bail them out.
I would've preferred someone else (Daft Punk, Clapton, Zeppelin, Mule, etc.), but I'm sure that there aren't many bands who they can rope into such a high-profile slot in such a short timeframe.
Most of the Bonnaroo crowd will be super happy w/ WSP as an addition. Everyone else can pack their shit and hit the road.

considering all bonnaroo had on their website was "big announcement" with "IN THE MEANTIME, STAY TUNED FOR AN EXCITING BONNAROO ANNOUNCMENT COMING YOUR WAY THIS THURSDAY, APRIL 17…" following the allmans stroy, i wouldnt say they were giving us too much hype.
i dont really think superfly made any messes besides the ones us inforoosters are creating by reading into things waaaaay too much.

thank you
that's exactly what i've thought this whole time... they threw it out there, inforoo caught it and hyped it up. I'd expect nothing less, though! ;D

but my beef is that when you announce something as not just an announcement, but a big announcement, you know what you are doing. you are creating hysteria over what is meant by "big" and people will obsess over how big is big? And when you know people have been waiting since last years roo ended to hear the name led zep added, and you know the insanity that went on around the internet when the first set of clues were put out, I really dont think they would have said "oh well put out the announcement of the big announcement, people wont really make a fuss about it" especially after one of the marquee names on the bill has just been removed.

there are so many elements that just created the perfect storm of inforoo hysteria...coachella pulling prince out of their asses three weeks before the festival, that last shred of hope that led zeppelin might actually happen, a blitzkrieg of clues and misleading information spanning multiple internet media formats...and the announcement of an "big announcement" completely taking advantage of all these factors...plus it apparently doesn't take much to get inforoosters hysterical
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."

I disagree that it was hysteria. In the context of the Prince announcement and with them ramping up the clues again and outright indicating that something big and exciting was going to happen I think it's understandable that we expected something big rather than something that has happened at Bonnaroo several times before.

it's completely understandable that everyone expected something big...I know I did...but that doesn't change the fact that a lot of people got hysterical over what turned out to be nothing too major....now that's the real superdrag...

I've been to every bonnaroo and am so done with WSP as a headliner that i dont know what to tell you.
i had excepted j. johnson as the sunday headliner... and had planned on my first early exit ever from bonnaroo.
now, though... my friends may want to stay to see panic.... dam-nit!!!!
i just got double sherm'd on.
being a "kid" mysself, yall might start with the glass houses but please shut up...cuz i may be young but i got rocks too(ask me about my rocks?...PC..not PC?...wheres the FCC when you need em)...i think this shows part of what is wrong with the chillies (<young ones, younguns, whatever old people say these days) today............WSP. Widespread Panic. An amazing band that has a special place in my heart because they play some of the first "real" music I started listening to (real=music with emotion made for the music). I think that it's pitiful when someone with the myspace page name of Phuture5 (obviously a jam band band hence the overused "ph". it used to be "cool", now it's not, sorry...) complains about Panic closing out roo and especially when people agree with him! Im sorry if this offended anyone (not really actually). oh yes and im honestly sorry for the overuse of parentheses and ellipses, those are two of my writing flaws so , yeah. later. pm me if you reallly wanna talk (real conversation, not bs), thanks

Bon your ROo is hysteria at this point.

wsp needs to be put on a late night main stage performance. this i could be happy with. out of my way and not takin' up my very valuable time (mainly because its a headliner, and those are few! ), and still addin' the jammy element that the roo was built on. just my opinion though, i just don't listen to much widespread outside of the roo.
Ehh..I was hoping for something more, but really, I think I've got plenty of great acts to occupy my time this year. I'm sure the "hippies" will be pleased considering I didn't see hardly any inside Centeroo last year until Sunday evening right before WSP played and then it was like a flood of them descending on the What stage. It made it feel like 2004 again when 90% of the crowd seemed to be "hippies." Whatever though, we hyped this up in our heads to be something not just "big" but HUGE and EPIC so of course most of us are gonna be let down. I'd still say it's a big announcement, especially for the WSP/Claypool fans. You can't please everyone all the time.

February 1, 2006:
"Mayers responds, '... As great as Widespread Panic has been to us and has been a really big part of what we've done, we can't have Widespread Panic every single year.'"
February 14, 2007:
"Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival Announces 2007 Lineup With The Police, Tool, Widespread Panic..."
April 17, 2008:
"The Bonnaroo Music And Arts Festival is pleased to announce that Widespread Panic will now close the 2008 festival, headlining the main stage on Sunday evening, June 15."

I'm thankful JJ got moved into ABB's slot, I had a feeling ABB was gonna conflict with someone else Sat. Night. That frees up a Sat. Night slot for me to see someone else.
