DSL? No internet for miles buddy, Dead zone at bonnaroo. No pun intended. On the other hand, I wandered around hopelessly for Thurs and Fri last year and finally stumbled to Shakedown on Saturday. I did have a guy camp next to me who offered me some wares though, so it kept me happy the first two days.

come on, you know it'd be a fun tour.
LOL!!! I'm there for sure if you promise to be the tour guide!
This will be my 4th 'Roo and I have not yet searched for the hallowed Shakedown St. This will be the year. Hopefully I will find it before it's all over !
This is a confusing one. There is no one shakedown street. Its just where people are selling their stuff and partying. Every street in the fest could be shakedown.
^^^^^^ could be but isn't. Shakedown street for all of those confused as to exactly what it means and is is the area where most of the considered "tour rats" camp and typically sell you anything your looking for to keep you going for late night activities or whatnot. Back in the days of Dead tour Shakedown was found out in the lots many times in a very close centralized location (many times the main drag leading into the arena even). I often used to be a vendor on Shakedown back in the mid-late eighties or just strolling the lot helping out those in need.
At 'roo NOW they are forced to tuck it way in the back as many have said last year the main activity being on Plantation between Victor and N. first. It is still considered THE place to locate your party favors if in fact you do not run into one of these strolling vendors at your own campsite. The dynamic has changed much to me over the years and it really is much shady-er (ie. lots more bunk poop) than it ever was back in the heyday of the Dead. Another thing is they just don't make the 'ol dsl like they used to =-(
Hopefully this serves to less confuse those who have never 'poked around'
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

if partying is the main thing you're concerned about, just listen very carefully during your walks to and from centeroo and camp. at least in my experience, your needs should be covered (possibly depending on what you're into, i guess).
of course, i'd still like to encounter the real shakedown this year for the food and drink. i spent almost all my time in centeroo last year.
if you've been to Roo 4 times and haven't found shakedown... you aren't even trying... lol
this is what I'm thinking. I know music is the main reason everyone goes to Roo, but you're really missing out if you don't explore the festival grounds for at least a few hours.

This. I spend a good bit of Thursday strolling through campsites set up, and early Friday exploring. So many fun times have come from it. I actually look forward to this part of Roo.

Shakedown in 2006 was amazing (the main one on the drag). There were 2-3 different makeshift "bars" at night. These were large covered tents with seating, playing music and serving alcohol. I guess they started charging more for the spots on the main drag, enforcing the no glass policy, and limiting the amount of alcohol that people could bring in. That seemed to kill the fun of the main drag.

I am definitely making sure to go on an exploring adventure this year. we did a little bit last year wen we first arrived and maybe a little at night that I do not recall but I am going to make it a point to explore this year.
I will say the same thing I said last year...anything you might be looking for on Shakedown, you can find pretty much ANYWHERE on the festie ground if you just listen while you walk. That being SAID it is considerably more concentrated on Shakedown which has, for the last three years running, been on Plantation St. Plantation is near the back of the grounds and divides the Ace Ventura campsites from the Ghost Busters campsites (blocks 63-68). I highly recc. checking it out this year, esp. with Phish on the farm...things should be bumpin'.

last year (my first roo), i arrived on friday and so i ended up diving right into the action in centeroo. this year i plan on getting there very early on thursday, and i really wanna use some of that extra time to explore the campgrounds. i'll likely do some exploring on the other days, but most definitely on thursday.
would i be right in assuming shakedown is fully up and running on thursday?

^^it has been from my experience that arriving very early on Thursday is a bad idea
well it's a good idea if you want to walk a mile in 90 degree weather to get back and forth to centeroo.
nobody ever knows where they are gonna camp but i guarantee that if you show up early, you will not be turned away like your ticket states, you will actually be pushed allllllllll the way back.
the plus side to arriving early is that centeroo is pretty empty and clean on thursday during the day before anyone takes the stage. but... it's not really worth it.

^^by really early i actually don't mean 1-3 am, and yeah i know that pretty much everyone who arrives then is camped way back in bfe. i mean more like 6-8 am, which i understand is a crapshoot as to where you'll be camped.
but either way, i won't complain if i end up in bfe (i might be doing tent only anyway). i just wanna roam on thursday and get my shakedown on!

Shakedown will def be hot this June with Phish here (if the kids are willing to pay the entry price). It def won't be like a normal Phish show, but I think the entry price will weed out the lot kids, thankfully. If your trying to avoid bunkness, check out shroomery.org msg boards before you leave. It's got a lot of info and links to other sites that update regularly on the most recent party favors (actual pics).
