Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
That's it exactly. It's actually a moving sculpture originally shown at Burning Man. There are drums at the base of the carousel. Every time you hit a drum, you make a noise and set off a strobe. When the drumming hits 'critical mass', the synchronized strobe kicks in, and the animation is revealed.
That's one of the coolest things I've heard about in a long time!
I think I just popped a blood vessel in my brainpan.
Yes, between the hours of 9AM and 8PM, IIRC. The lakefront is directly across from the Wagon Wheel (the only enclosed performance stage at the festival) and the bunkhouse apartments (one of the Good Life VIP packages for $1k+).
Tons of shade everywhere (except the GA campgrounds).
random hammocks set up all around anyone can use anytime
Actually, I think it was more like B.Y.O. hammock. They did have a hammock vendor, IIRC... probably made a mint, too.
a lake
Yes, but muck-bottomed, from what I heard.
a club
Kinda... the Wagon Wheel was indoors, but it was a mix of performances and environmental think tank discussions. The Establishment tent was more nightclubish (nice and dark 24x7). The Tripolee Dome was probably the most club-like: that's where most of the DJs performed, including Crystal Method.
cabins
Only if you were willing to shell out $1k or more per person, with a 2 person minimum.
highs in the upper70's-mid 80's,lows in the forties
Don't think it got that cold at night... maybe high 50s at worst.
lots of headies and such?
From what I heard, the car searches consisted mostly of looking in your cooler. I was actually a little disappointed they didn't look my car over harder.... all that time hiding 7 bottles of wine and a 6-pack of beer, wasted...
sounds like i found the perfect "recovering from bonnaroo" festival...
If you have the resources to do both, I highly recommend it.
^you could buy hammocks, but the ones in the forest were just there. We went in right when they opened the gates on Thurs, and there were hammocks everywhere

:/ This is making me really sad.
I mean, the pictures look amazing to me too, but...my roo!
It looks great and all, and...yep, I'd like to go...but still, I wish this had never happened. Because now look...the Inforoosters, the most obsessed Bonnaroosters of all...and everybody would rather be somewhere else now! I might get people complaining at me for saying this, but this is really really depressing me.

Yeah, I just feel like people are going to be divided...for me personally, since '07 was my first Roo, I'm just getting into this...found all the lovely inforoosters after that and was SO excited to meet everybody at '08...so then when I couldn't go I was of course totally depressed, but I just vowed that I'd be there next year. And now this comes along and I feel like a lot of the people who would have been a big part of my reason for going next year might not end up there...and so basically now I feel like I MISSED Bonnaroo...like it all happened a couple years ago and now people are moving on and I'm all WAIT WHAT ABOUT ME.
And WOW now I'm being overly dramatic. Hahaha damn hormones.

i have thoughts on this but im so brain dead right now its hard to type. ill get back to you. but just know this: once you experience other fests, and other things, you wont feel so sad about it. thats my personal experience... also, you have to ignore what 'people' say, and enjoy what you want to no matter what! ;D
plasticpepper, I wouldn't get too upset about it. Bonnaroo is here to stay. It will likely be around for another decade at least. IT is the most well organized, well-run, and highest grossing festival in the United States. The initial concept of Bonnaroo 2002 has been cloned over and over again, Rothbury is not the first to do this. And still, Bonnaroo is the only one who continues to draw upwards of 65-70,000 every year. You can almost blame Bonnaroo for being too successful, and giving other promoters the ideas to try things similar to what they were trying.
However, none of these festivals have been anywhere near as successful as Bonnaroo, including Rothbury, and many of them are already dying off. This year alone we are losing Wakarusa and Vegoose. Even Rothbury, which appears to be a success, has a grey cloud hanging over it in the form of financial debt on the part of the land-owners. There is no guarantee that this time next year, the JJ Ranch will be owned by the same folks.
Bonnaroo latched onto something positive in the jamband scene, and made it a boon from the get go. It is out-performing and outlasting many of the smaller festivals doing the same thing. Bonnaroo has evolved into a classic American rock festival in just 7 years time (actually less), and has built the type of success that will guarantee that it sticks around for at least another 7. There is no other festival of that size that you can say that about, other than perhaps Coachella. In the end, Bonnaroo sets the bar, the rest are trying to reach it.

i think when she says she feels like she "missed" bonnaroo she means that even is she goes next year, it won't be the same... it won't be REALLY bonnaroo (which i'm sure Dude would agree with )
i'm one of those loyal inforoosters who feels like bonnaroo isn't all it once was... although i'm different than most in that I will probably hit ROO next year because its the closest, instead of doing what i really want to and hit up AllGood, moe.down, the ledges, or camp bisco
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

I get ya pepper, as '07 was my first year too, but I get the impression that every year there has been a group of Bonnaroo loyalists that for one reason or another, often about issues with Bonnaroo's line-up/direction, leave for other pastures. There are plenty sticking around though, and even more coming in to join the community, so I wouldn't worry about Roo '09 being void of familiar names and new friends. Myself, I can't wait.

Yeah, that! Haha...I know if I go next year I'll still love it, but I also know there's a good chance that in order to go through with my promise to be there, I'll have to go alone. I would be completely cool with this if I knew I could get there and every person from Inforoo would be there for me to hang out with, but if lots of inforoosters don't go then who will take care of little meeee? Hahaha.

Also... all this talk of definitely hitting Roth next year instead of Roo can't even be taken seriously at this point in time. Once the line ups comes out people can be taken more seriously I feel.
Bonnaroo is a unique experience, as is every other festival. That's what's so great about it all. I love the thought of a new uprising festival like Rothbury, because it's just one more chance of an experience you won't find anywhere else!
Plasticpepper - I totally get you. Deciding to do Rothbury this year instead of Roo was REALLY hard. I was going back and forth forever, and tried to figure out how to do both for awhile. When Roo came around, and I wasn't there, it actually hurt. It honestly felt like breaking up with a serious boyfriend. I know that sounds corny, but it's the best way I can describe it. We all have emotional attachments to Roo. If not, we wouldn't be here. Making change to that kind of attachment is hard. Sometimes the outcome is a blow. But sometimes your mind gets blown. That's what happened for me.

Man, I love you people.
Okay, here is my plan. Somehow in the next year I will become incredibly disgustingly rich, and then I will pay for all of us to go to both festivals. And maybe Langerado too. Also I will buy a ginormous house and we will all live there forever. Sound good? ;D
i think when she says she feels like she "missed" bonnaroo she means that even is she goes next year, it won't be the same... it won't be REALLY bonnaroo (which i'm sure Dude would agree with )
i'm one of those loyal inforoosters who feels like bonnaroo isn't all it once was...
Am I the only person who has been going since the very first year that feels that Bonnaroo is better than it ever has been?
Where was everyone when Disco Biscuits were breaking curfew and ending their set with the sunrise? Where was everyone when MMJ played an epic 4 hour show on an opposite stage? (forcing me to miss a Claypool superjam and DJ throwdown by Tiesto). Where was everyone when Panic headlined for the 7th time (just like in year one), and Pearl Jam played til 1 AM??
I can honestly say that Bonnaroo has far exceeded my expectations of what I thought it could be when I first set foot on that farm in 2002. It has blown the door wide open for American music festivals, and continues to bend and break the rules for festivals in general, all the while stying true to its roots, while infusing the type of cultural and musical diversity that makes this world spin.
This ridiculous assertion that Bonnaroo isn't what it once was is just that to me, ridiculous. As someone who has never missed Bonnaroo, Bonnaroo is, without a doubt, better than it ever has been. The last 3 years have been phenomenal, each of them exceeding the 4 years prior to that. If a few tie-dyed hippies can't get over the fact that Bonnaroo 2002 was the peak of the jamband scene, and that it has been receeding ever since, than so be it. Their nostalgic longing for an era that his since passed us by doesn't lessen the amazing experience that Bonnaroo continues to be.
PP, I love you! Here's a huge hug. I totally know what you mean, and I'm glad you said it because I felt like I might be the only one. I would absolutely love to try Rothbury, especially if they bring out a great lineup, but I know I would feel like I was cheating on our beloved Bonnaroo.
Clairity's boyfriend analogy is perfect, I think. Its like when you break up with someone (Roo) for someone else (Roth/Allgood/take your pick), you still aren't ready to see your ex with anyone else (all the merry festy goers), and when you do it makes you wonder, "Hmm, did I make the right choice?"
I think that's why a lot of Inforoosters aren't festival-monogamous... they love them all too much to be one-festy-men/women! Free festy love!! ;D

Aww thank you! And a big hug for you, too! I wasn't sure if I should say anything in the first place because I too thought I might be the only one...I don't know why I worried, I should have known the inforoosters would always make me feel better!
