i just got back from a weekend in New Jersey, and the BF and i hiked around in the south jersey woods the entire time...it was heaven and my legs look sooo much better...and tan, as well!

alessia awesome job! That takes a lot of dedication and work to do a 10k!!
so, in the quest for a healthier lifestyle ( and smaller waist too lol ) my mom surprised me with this AMAZING high performane blender, the vita-mix.
We watched a demo at Sam's club and sampled a lot of yummy things the guy made, like honey roasted peanut butter, all kinds of great juices with hidden veggies you can't taste, and really good spanish-style soup. This machine is amazing... definitely not the average blender! I'm excited because I can make Noah his own baby food now too.
MGMT is great for exercising! So is Girl Talk. I went to a show recently and felt like I had danced off five pounds!
Amen to that!
Sooo, I haven't updated since my last post - I went to the doctor and took some tests and it turns out I do have asthma, aggravated when I exercise and get physical. I got some pills and an inhaler and went for a run the other night.
I ran a mile in 12 minutes! I realize that's no feat, but for years I couldn't have done it. I'd have hit the floor gasping for air by minute 7. But I felt great this time and can't wait to do it again.
I'm using livestrong.com to keep my diet and exercise journal, which has done a really good job of keeping me on track the last week and a half. It makes it easy to see whether I have burned up the calories I've eaten or not. I have actually only lost about 4 pounds since I started on this thread, but I think I'm on a steady path now so I'm hoping some more drops off before June!
At least if I'm still feeling this good and making progress, whether I've met my goal or not I'll feel great.
hi guys. i'm a new poster in this thread, just looking for some people to chat with and support me in my roo goals!
i want to make sure i can be mobile even if we're stuck in bfe. i play soccer twice a week but don't do much else, so i think i've decided i'm going to go on some long walks with my camelbak packed up as "training" for roo. it can't hurt to get myself a little more in shape, and since walking is my major concern, i feel like i should focus there.
time to start eating better, too. i'm hoping to shed some pounds so i can wear my sleeveless dress with less insecurity about my flabby arms!

^I'm doing the same. I'm on a graveyard schedule, which has actually been working well with my 'Roo preparations because I've been waking up around 1 or 2pm, eating a good breakfast and walking 3-5 miles at the heat-peak of the day. I plan to continue as it gets hotter so maybe I won't suffer so bad in the heat. Also trying to build up my skin's stamina because I'm soooo incredibly fair. I have a prescription for SPF175 but I still plan on taking a parasol, the 175 alone helps but I've still had 3rd degree burns even with it. So my goal is to be able to handle the heat/mass amounts of walking better plus not have to be so worried about burning to a crisp. I doubt the latter will see much improvement but here's to trying!
taking a walk in the heat of the day is a great idea. i'm in texas, and the sun is fiiiierce. i'm horribly fair as well, and burn pretty quick, but i have a decent base already from being burned pretty badly about a month ago.
i'm thinking of taking a parasol, too, and maybe trying to find a way to attach it to my camelbak so i can walk in shade without using my hands (and also be protected from the rain, should i want to!). if i figure something out, i'll take pictures and share! i can't be the only one who would benefit from such a thing, if it hasn't already been created.

That's an awesome idea! It shouldn't be too difficult to figure out a way to do it...maybe just putting the handle down in the bottom of your pack and packing things in around it to stabilize? I dunno, I'm sure it'll work somehow.
yeah, i want to stabilize it so it won't shake loose if i'm rocking. could be as simple as just a strap inside my pack. or i could get lazy and just pack things around it and hope it holds.
well, i just took a walk with my packed and loaded camelbak for the first time! it's 86 degrees (feels like 93), and i just took a light 1 mile walk. the camelbak REALLY helped keep me feeling good, i was sweating but didn't feel dehydrated. and it was much easier than having a water bottle in my hand.
a mile's not a lot, but it's a good step. i can't waiiiiit for roo!

My friends and I have been taking an African Dance Class every other week... My God. An Hour and a half class... and I honestly feel like my heart is going to burst after twenty minutes, but knowing everyone else is working just as hard and having such a good time, and hearing live drums... it feels awesome!
i put on a few lbs during a very stressful year and successfully took them off with a gym membership and no carbs before my wedding, which sucked. and between the wedding, honeymoon, thanksgiving, an christmas... i put them all back on. now none of my shorts fit. sucky. plus i am out of shape and miserable.
i decided to use roo as motivation to lose a few lbs, combined with being able to actually wear my clothes and see the bottom of my bikini again.
no carbs sucked so i am now calorie counting (fitday) and its really cool to see what i'm actually taking in and burning. i planned on losing like 10 lbs and I think I am on track. I don't own a scale because i think that it promotes unhealthy obsession with body image and i will go nuts weighing myself all the time, but I weigh myself occasionally at the grocery store so i have a reasonable approximation of what I weigh. Mostly I want to lose about 10lbs to be mroe comfortable so I don't need to really know exactly what I weigh, I just calculated for how much I want to lose and I am restricting my calories accordingly.
Sitting on my butt all day meant I couldn't eat much of anything so I needed to become more active and I got a bunch of dance workout dvds since I used to be a dancer. Bollywood Burn or anything with Hemalaya is awesome if anyone is interested. I have also been walking my dogs around the block 5x=3mi so I do that every night. Husband and kiddo are coming with me most every night, because they are awesome and supportive, and to help prep themselves for the large amout of walking we are all going to do at roo.
i am also going to start walking during the day or laying out a little to get some sun. i have olive-ish skin that tans well, but I usually get one good burn in at the beginning of summer because I forget that i have to be tan first before I can use the lower spf. i live in SwFL so the sun here is BRUTAL. i'd like to have a little bit of a base before i get to roo, although i wonder how harsh the sun really is up there, compared to here. everyone says the sun is sooo bad but its 800mi north of where i live so i can't imagine its any worse than here. (heh, same goes for the heat).
i am so glad that i am not the only one trying to drop a few lbs and get in better shape for roo, all you awesome chicks are doing the same. yay, camaraderie, hehe!
the practice walks are most important i think. we do theme parks every now and again and the walking always kills us the next day, but this is going to be that x4.

^^I agree, the camraderie feels great. Especially since we're all working for the same thing! And its not even like I have a specific amt. of lbs I want to lose... I just want to condition myself for the running and dancing... and the HEAT. Yikessss.
Speaking of heat/Sun, I'm debating buying a couple weeks of tanning (NOT my scene, but ummm I'm from Buffalo? It's disgusting here) so I can have a legit base before I fry in the sun. Nothing like a good dose of sun poisoning to ruin your weekend. That seems worth 30 dollars of fake sun to me.
Wow! Everyone is still so motivated and involved! I'm so happy for us all!
Rachelll0ve - I, too, am going to hit up the fake bake for a few sessions before Roo. Even if I put on sunscreen, I still manage to burn in the most random places if I don't have a little base. My very Irish fiance (very pale) even goes for a few times before we leave... The first year I dragged him to Roo we had a embarrassing moment as he was getting ready to head out and explore for the first time. We (the Roo vets) are all sitting around getting our sunscreen on and Russ (the only newbie) is just sitting there waiting anxiously to leave. He stands up to leave and, without thinking, I say "Oh, honey, come back to the shade for a second and let me make sure you have sunscreen on, you know how easily you burn!" All the guys just burst out laughing at him as he hanged his head and came back to the tent.
So, now, he goes to the tanning salon for a few times just to make sure he doesn't get any crazy sunburns even if he does miss a few spots with the sunscreen.
We close on our house tomorrow at 2pm! So, I'll be packing and moving out of this house and into our new house all weekend. Hopefully, that will burn a few calories, I'm pretty sure it will. We are painting and working on the lawn right when we move in, too. I think that in the weeks leading up to Roo I'll be doing more than enough to drop a few more pounds.
I've lost 45 so far, and my fave James' Jeans look pretty damn good on my butt again! Woot!
Just a few short days ladies and we'll be showing off our new and improved selves!
So I now own a scale and am only allowing myself to get on it once a week. Its working so far. My problem isnt overall weight its just I carry weight in weird places and that only started happening after I had my daughter but thats life I suppose.
3rd week with the personal trainer and I havent felt this good in a long time. Im down to 135, but my goal isnt weight loss its building muscle and toning what I do have so Im finally starting to see results which is a big motivator. Eating alot better (several times a day--5 small meals)and the added muscle are boosting my metabolism so hopefully by Roo Ill have made some more progress.
If I can get to 130 by Roo, maintain the weight and get a little more toned Ill be a happy camper (pun intended)
we can all do it. i've been totally lacking motivation lately which is awful. but i have been busy i started a new job, finished a month of exams for my third year of uni, had my parents up to help me move into a new place... it's been pretty busy. however i'm back on track after a couple of days making excuses for myself... i've been running a couple of 10ks a week and am back to feeling on top of the worldddddd!!! can't wait to see you all at roo my bb's!
thx for the encouragement. flubbing on the calorie counting here and there, but i'm up from 3mi to 5mi every night now. woo hoo!!!
Great job!
I've still been in maintain mode. I gained a couple of pounds over finals because I was binge eating from stress. Not cool. Anyway, my new goal is to run a marathon in a year to a year and a half. I created a training schedule and will start getting back to my normal exercise after Bonnaroo and after I move in July, I'll start the training. I have a flexible 15-week schedule that will get me running several miles a day by February and an 18-week plan leading up to the marathon. I'm totally excited about it. I'm working with my doctor, for sure. lol My goal is to apply for the NYC Marathon knowing that I could physically do it if my application is accepted. The whole thing is overwhelming and scary because it's drastic, but the fear I have just makes me want to do it that much more!
Gonna bump this back up to the 1st page to keep the motivation alive.....Starting this week I am switching to 4 days a week with the personal trainer instead of the 3 Ive been doing for a month. Hoping this will grind out a few more pounds...starting to see muscles I didnt see before so Im happy with the progress. 16 days!!!!

This is my first post...only because I just found this thread! I wish I had found you weeks ago!
I'm not on a specific regimen but am generally health conscious. I'm OK with my weight and diet (on-again, off-again vegetarian who doesn't drink soda but is in the middle of a serious love affair with non-fat lattes).
*However*, I would like to tone up – especially the old midsection. After having two beautiful children, my abs aren’t what they used to be. Do you have suggestions on exercises that I can do at home that you’ve found especially helpful for the abs and “love handle” region?
