Dance is my exercise, along with lots of walking (I don't own a car). Currently taking Bollywood and Psychedelic Go-Go classes, with a little Zumba thrown in here and there. Hoping to try Bhangra later this summer.
I just wanted to thank you ladies for keeping me so motivated this year! Thanks to all of you, I was able to come just shy of my goal and really enjoy my Roo.
In 2007 and 2008, I was really miserable (as much as one can be) while there. I was uncomfortable in sun dresses. I didn't want my picture taken. I wanted to stay at camp instead of going to day shows... you get the idea.
But, thanks to Inforoo and all of you super gorgeous ladies, I have been happily off of my medication for over a month, am still losing weight steadily, can wear my fave jeans again without worrying about a button flying off and killing someone, and had the most sweet-ass Roo ever!
And the boy is pretty thrilled, too.
So thank you all so much for helping me through this awkward, crazy, non-good time. I really appreciate it and think that you all contributed to my sanity and well-being during this...
Also, I'm back to running! I never thought I would see the day where I could run a 5k in under 25 minutes again! But now I can. And to celebrate, I am actually going to marathon next May. If any of you want to join me, I am running the Music City Marathon in Nashville in May 2010. There is a 5k, 10k, half-mar and marathon available. I am running the full mar, but Russ is doing the half, and my girlfriend Sarah, who some of you met at the brunch, is doing the half as well. Let me know if you want to run, maybe we can be Team Inforoo!

That's great, Dani! Congrats!
And give me a shout when you're in Nashville next May for the marathon. I'm not a runner myself, but I'll be glad to cheer you (and anyone else) on!!!
So Im gonna bump this back up as I am about to embark on 90 days of hell by starting p90x Saturday. Gonna go balls to the wall with it...I say balls to wall because Im going to quit smoking with it as well. There is no way Ill be able to get through any of those workouts if Im still smoking. should be a good time though. Has anyone else done this?

Hey sweetheart! How has it gone for you so far? I guess I could ask you this on FB but I need to get back to posting on here.

yea apparently Ive been away from Inforoo as well....going good so far. didnt quit smoking so the workouts are like 10 times harder than they should be but Ill get there eventually. The diet is the hardest part to follow. I went by the book the first 2 weeks but decided my lifestyle doesnt lend itself to that. So this past week I kinda modified it but overall im sticking with it. today is actually the beginning of my 4th week so its the recovery week which means alot of cardio.
As far as seeing results...I do. My weight hasnt really changed so I need to remind myself that muscle weighs more than fat so only losing 2 pounds but gaining muscle is still an accomplishment even if not measurable on the scale. And my abs are starting to show again which makes me happy. The bf fell off the wagon so its a little harder to stick with it when he's not doing it as well especially when it comes to dinner because he eats a crap load of what he wants and I cant. He's still supportive though.

Bah to boys who can eat whatever they want! Boo!
How did the p90x work out for you? I moved up to Asheville, and never brought a tv up with me, so I never started it. I'm pretty mad at myself for that, but I haven't gained any weight so...
But, I've decided to take a hooping class and join the local yoga studio to help keep off the holiday pounds and am pretty stoked about that though.

192 days to start this thing all over again. I wasn't where I wanted to be at the 2009 Bonnaroo although that didn't stop me from having a great time... Regardless, second round begins today
Overall goal: 30 pounds in 192 days = a pound per week should get me where I would be most happy. 20 pounds in 90 days would put me back to my college weight, where I would also be happy.
I haven't updated in awhile but I should mention that I kept up with the running and did a 2.5k in 18 minutes back on Oct. 17 at my college homecoming. It may not have been much to some of you runners but I've never been able to run like that at my fittest. Unfortunately I was sick at the time and pushed myself not to miss the event, which has led to a string of health issues that is only now completely resolving itself. I haven't run since but have been itching to get back out there.
It's hard to do this during the holidays but I'm starting on a better track now so when Jan. 1 hits, it'll be easier to dive right into the harder stuff.
Ugghhh......it's time to get my butt in the gym. Hopefully I can actually stick to it. I always get into a really good routine for about a month or so and then for no reason but laziness, I stop going for twice that time sometimes even longer. The girst three weeks are always the toughest to get past and then it becomes easy!
onesweetla83, that's awesome about the 2.5 k! Congrats! I bet it felt so great!

Thanks freebyrd! It did. I was sick at the time I ran it so I didn't feel great but proud yes. Have you guys checked out DailyMile.com? If so, find me- I'm lauranette on there and we can train together. We can even start a motivational group if that helps.
I just started back on an exercise schedule 2 days ago just for Roo!! I am glad I am not the only one who thinks of this 7 months in advance. I have never been to Roo so I am very excited.

We bought a treadmill about 3 weeks ago. It broke Tuesday. Nice, huh? It was brand new. Now we are waiting for the repair guy to call back to schedule a time to fix the machiene. GRRRR! On the other hand I haven't had a beer since Monday and I've lost 4lbs this week. Yay.
I was 10-15lbs from reaching my goal before Roo, but got lax and quit working out and eating right for awhile and gained some of what I had lost back. I'm trying to be more on track this time around.
Just started again yesterday. Lost some weight last year but didn't quite get to where I wanted. So let's give this another go. Doing yoga and rubberband training right now.
My hoop dance class starts Jan 7th and I'm stoked! I have 8 weeks of beginning classes and then 8 weeks of intermediate. Hopefully, by Roo, I'll be one of the super cute hoop girls I'm so jealous of every year!
I don't need to lose any more weight, but I definitely want to tone up before Roo.
man i wish there were hooping classes around here... everyone at roo is so skilled! kiddo and i played around with some outside a vendor shop one evening but we weren't doing any of the razy impressive stuff some of the serious hoopers pull off. i could barely keep it up.
as for my fitness i didn't lose any weight for roo like i wanted but we walked every night a few miles and i felt like i could handle all the walking/standing we'd encounter at roo since i'd spent the prevoius eight months on my ass pretty much all the time. i've since joined the local roller derby team and i'm getting PLENTY of exercise. still not losing weight but i'm toning up something serious. now if only there was a place at roo i could wear my skates.......! ;-)
everyone keep healthy and remember that being in shape doesn't necessarily mean skinny! we've got girls of all shapes and sizes on my team and we are all in good shape and fit, regardless of a little belly here and there.

It's good to be back here and have the support and motivation:) I'm going to a swim at the community center (indoor/heated). Hope all of you have a good, productive Sunday.

Hello, all! I'm not a regular but I figure I need to show some love to my fellow Healthyroos.
I'm hoping to lose another 25-35 lbs (or even hit my ultimate goal of 55 lbs) by Bonnaroooooo. I've been doing well on the South Beach diet. That in conjunction with working out 4x's a week. I honestly recommend the South Beach diet to anyone looking to lose any amount of weight because it is VERY sustainable once you are in to Phase 2. Just stick to whole grains and limit your sugar intake and some occassional "I'm only human" treats (like pizza and chocolate). It really puts your diet up to that point in perspective. I lost 50 lbs in the last two years and I'm hoping 2010 is the year to make it to my goal!
Anywho's. I'll probably drop-in often and gripe about how I want a Domino's pasta bread bowl (even though I've never had one and probably never will) and pushing my CONSTANT chocolate cravings deep down inside and pretending they don't exist.
"We're no longer called Sonic Death Monkey. We're on the verge of becoming Kathleen Turner Overdrive, but just for tonight, we are Barry Jive and his Uptown Five. "
My classes don't start til January but I've been hooping in my living room to get a little practice in beforehand.
Now, I want an LED hoop.
Hey Daniroo, will you be hooping with Hooprama? I finish level 1 on Tuesday and am so excited for level 2. I've already learned to neck hoop!! I'm going all the way with these classes - they even have fire-hooping for the very advanced!
I'm also hoping (hooping hehe) to do the hooping for hope half marathon in April, I'm a little scared, but I think it would be a great accomplishment for a good cause!
Starting in Jan, this will be the first year my hubby and I kick it into high gear to get into great shape for 'roo. Our goal is to feel confident enough to go shirtless (bikini top for me!)- whether we actually do or not! lol

Things I like about Hooprama: 1. Hooping with a group - it's a lot of fun, a great social activity. Having a group also helps with learning. 2. Having an instructor to not only teach you how to hoop, but also ensure you have correct positioning, etc. and to give you tips when you're having trouble getting a certain trick 3. Having adequate space (I don't have this in my apt in the winter) 4. Great fitness - you'll sweat more than you'd expect, it's getting me in shape, I'm learning a new skill, and it's fun!! If you continue with higher levels, the fitness aspect gets even more intense.
I'm only in level one and I can already hoop with my hands & neck, and do several tricks - basically I've learned more than I thought I would at this point.
If you just want to learn to hoop and that's all, I think at least taking level 1 will help get you started. From there, you could probably have enough knowledge and skill to learn on your own with websites etc, like hoop city. (Though you might find yourself hooked like me!!)
Also I'd check out the Hooprama site, it explains a lot about the classes and what you'll get out of them. They also offer other classes like Zumba, Cardio-flex, total mix, and hoop fusion and have 5$ drop-in rates. www.hooprama.com/fitness.html
squirrel, do you go to the classes in East Nashville? What night(s) do you go to their classes? Do you mind if I ask how much you pay? (you can PM me if you'd rather)
belltwala1, if you ever want to go to a class at hooprama, let me know. It's just right down the road from me! I've been thinking about a drop in class....

No, I am hooping with Asheville Hoops, but Hooprama seems awesome! My parents have found a fiber optic hoop that changes color that they want to get me for Christmas. I'll be so fancy!
I'll be doing the Music City (half) Marathon in May, if you feel like doing another one.
I, too, want to be in bikini shape by Roo. I have already noticed a "hoop muscle." EEE!
A FIBER OPTIC HOOP?!!! You have no idea how amazing those words are to me! ;DI love fiber optic things - a fiber optic hoop sounds incredibly awesome! Do you have any idea where they found it? I would greatly appreciate it, if you could find out.
