And never say never on the marathon, handgunhips. I have a good friend who had a major brain aneurysm and a stroke at the age of three, and had to be airlifted to Children's National Medical Center. The cerebral hemorrhaging drastically affected the sensorimotor functions on the right side of his body, especially his strength and co-ordination (you can still notice the effects today). The docs thought he was a goner.
He finished first in the mobility-impaired division of this year's Boston Marathon.
so how's everyone doing? This thread hasnt been updated in a couple of weeks.
I ate brownies AND pizza last night. I havnt eaten either of those things in months, so you can bet my tummy was pretty upset with me. I woke up this morning feeling like I had a rock in my stomach. I don't really know what cause that mini relapse but I'm just gonna shake it off and get back on track today.
I've lost a total of 35 lbs since roo! And the other day I was able to comfortably fit into jeans that I havn't worn in 3 years. I'm reallly proud that I've kept at it for so long... I really feel like there's no stopping me now
I lost quite a bit when my dad was doing pretty bad in the hospital. Definitely not the best way to do it. But he's doing much better now, and I'm making a pretty good effort to keep it off.
Congrats on all the weight loss, cupcake! And I'm sorry to hear you lost weight because of stress, Clairity! I'm glad you and your dad are both doing better!
After losing a bunch of weight, I'm only maintaining. I was about 20-25 pounds heavier this time last year, so I'm just basking in that accomplishment. I have a goal for Valentine's Day (no particular reason, just a solid landmark date) of another 15 pounds. The interesting thing is that I'm going to be VERY busy with school next semester and because of that, my eating times will be VERY scheduled. I won't be home between 7:30 AM and 10:30 PM three days a week, so I won't have just random stuff to snack on. I'm thinking I'll be able to lose quite a bit of weight between January and May because of how busy and stressed I'll be. I'm kind of excited about having no extra time. I like structure. I'm weird.

I recently gave up fast food and trying to decrease my intake of caffeine. Also, I'm trying to walk, bus, or ride anywhere I need to go in the Galaxy. I think it's making my legs slimmer, but I threw my scale away a couple months ago.

Congrats to everyone who is still doing their thing! I finally got the whole work out/eating thing to click... I began lifting weights and watch what I eat I go to the gym every other day 15 mins of cardio, then 30 mins of weight lifting, and another 15 mins of cardio. I take supplements and try to eat a lot of protein and drink tonssssssssssss of water. I also cut out any other beverages other than water. I will still go out to party and drink alcohol on my "cheat meal" which I give myself one per week, so I usually save it for a Friday or Saturday night. I'm supposed to weight and measure myself today to see the progress so far, but I'm nervous I'll update on how it's going once I see the results!!
My goal is to also eventually run in a full marathon. I ran in a 10K in May and it was a wonderful experience. I loved the training and everything about it. Good luck to all those who strive for the marathons as well!

stress sucks. unfortunately for me i tend to gain weight during those kinds of times.
Okay, so I am on a downward spiral of major fatness. I haven't been this heavy in years. I feel kinda gross and my clothes are stupid tight, but I have so little motivation to change anything because I enjoy stuffing my face with the awesome BF daily. He couldn't give a quack about my extra chub, and the fact that I feel so comfortable and adored has made me totally left myself go. I also think the birth control is contributing - my boobs are ginormous and I feel bloated constantly. I need to just MAKE THE DECISION to change but I need a fire lit under my ass!! I never thought having a boyfriend that loves me the way I am and buys me Taco Bell whenever I want it would be a problem

Planning on joining the gym again since I stopped around the Christmas season (which was probably a horrible mistake considering the food galore around that time) Just remember it's good to treat yourself once in awhile if you're on a diet. If you don't the one time you slip up and taste something *delicious* you're much more likely to gobble it all up

I want to get back into going to the gym, but its always so packed out for the month of january. People usually have given up on resolutions by February.

I'm glad this thread is here. I have just started a new eating and exercise plan that a marathon runner/friend of mine made for me.
It is hard to say no to the Dr. Pepper and cut back on beer.
My friend made it a bit easier for me when he said that Taco Bell and Chick fil a actually have good healthy food on their menu that is low in fat and calories. He said to order 1-2 items from the Fresco Menu at Taco Bell or the Grilled Chicken from Chick Fil A.
I'm starting weights and abs today and going to give running another shot tomorrow. I've always used my knee and ankle as an excuse since I hurt them pretty badly playing basketball in Jr High. One day it dawned on me that I say I can't run, but I can walk around and festies and stand for hours on end if there is music going. I realized I had been cheating myself, in a way. Running is going to be hard, but I'll just have to retrain myself. I'm used to the fast, short bursts in basketball practice. I think it is all mental though. If you tell yourself you can do it, you will!
I'm really wanting to lose about 25 lbs before Roo. That would be a pound a week. Pretty reasonable goal, I think.
I love that this thread is here so we can all support eachother.

I used to be an adventure racer (kinda like a mountain triathalon) and sadly slipped a disc in my lower back about 3 years ago... I've been using that as an excuse ever since. So in those 3 years, I've gained 40 pounds, lost a lot of my old self-esteem and dearly miss my fave jeans.
Well, now, my back is all better and I wanna be cute again at Roo '09! So, I am with ya! A pound a week is MORE than doable and I think it'll be nice to have supportive ladies who are all going towards to same goal... to be happier and healthier at Roo!
I use www.fitday.com to keep track of my meals and my exercise, and I am also on www.comotivate.com with a weight loss group there. Both are great sites to help you stay on track.
Maybe we could start a healthy recipe thread too?
Oh, and Bud Select isn't bad for a low carb beer, I've also heard good things about Mich Ultra Pomegranate even though I haven't tried it.

Thanks for those links. I just went and signed up at FitDay. It is nice to see the amount calories and fat that is in what you eat! That will be a definate help for me!
I just had my first sandwich on Wheat EVER and it's not too bad.
Post by Free Spirit Alessia on Jan 9, 2009 16:04:31 GMT -5
Wheat bread is really good... you should try whole wheat pasta too ..YUM! I only eat wheat carbs now.
I started Body For Life which is a pretty well explained fitness book. It tells you what to eat and what to do in the gym and you can take the 12 week challenge and have great results!
bodyforlife.com
Also I used to do weight watchers and always went on the site www.hungrygirl.com it takes "bad" foods and they make healthier versions. It really has good stuff on there!

^^ I will have to try that whole wheat pasta. I think I'm going do what you said and just stick to wheat carbs. Thanks for the tip and the link to hungrygirl!!
Update: minus 2lbs since Sunday. I've been eating 6 small meals a day and never feel hungry. I really think I may be able to stick with this.
So I don't have any weight or fitness goals, but a pound a week seems feasible... I may join you ladies on that quest!
On a side note, I take medicine to help with spasms in my stomach (it's a form of IBS). I've been out of my medicine for about a week now because I haven't had a chance to get to the pharmacy to pick it up. Since I've been without it, I find that I'm not as hungry and my stomach doesn't hurt nearly as bad I remember before I went on the meds. And it seems I've lost a few pounds to boot!
This is good news because I would love to cut that medication out if it's not needed. I will probably still have stomach spasms, but now that I've been dealing with them for 9 years, I know how to handle them.
Anyway, I don't own a scale so my estimations will be based on clothing... which is probably not as good of an indicator but I do what I can
Hey ladies! I'm happy to report that am down 2 lbs too, for this week!
Great Job Melissa on your loss!
And jhointn, I also have IBS, and I haven't taken my medicine since college (6 years) after I adjusted my eating schedule. I eat smaller meals throughout the day and I don't eat after 7ish... that has really helped with my spasams.
Oh! I also tried out the Mich Ultra Pomegranate Raspberry... It's FANTASTIC! It iastes like lightly raspberry flavored sparkling water! It is 107 calories a bottle and hopefully they will start putting it in cans in time for the 'roo. It is much more refreshing than regular low carb beer, and the flavor is great. They also make an orange flavor that I haven't tried yet. Maybe I'll give it a whirl this evening.

That's good to know! I'm reluctant to try flavored beers, probably because the first time I had Blue Moon someone told me it was "just like orange juice!" (They lied, by the way) May have to try this Mich Ultra stuff...
Daniroo, glad to meet another IBS-er I think my case is different than most... myy colon has spasms everytime I eat, no matter what I eat, even if it's just a cracker. You can put your hand on my stomach and feel it spazing out. They last about 10 minutes and then it's all over. I've gotten used to them now, so they don't hurt as bad. The medicine didn't get rid of the spasms, it just lessened the severity.
For those of you that eat small meals throughout the day, what do your small meals consist of? A girl I work with does this (she eats 4 meals while at work), but she's also always hungry and has to stop herself from eating more during her small meals. just curious how well this works....

I've done the small meals before and the key for me was to make sure they were fiber and protein-packed with a touch of fat. Like cheese + turkey in a lettuce wrap. Or a handful of nuts + apple. Or oatmeal.
Also, for those looking for a good low-calorie wheat bread, I've had good success with the Weight Watchers bread. Has a good amount of fiber AND no high-fructose corn syrup. It's surprisingly difficult to find bread without this. Plus, the WW bread is small so you can actually have two pieces and feel like you're having a real sandwich, instead of a 1/2 sandwich.
I eat at least every two hours and I whenever I know I am physically hungry. I consider it more as snacking constantly throughout the day instead of actually eating specific meals
i pretty much eat whatever i want but in small amounts. I try to actually stick to a serving size. If you measure out your food youll be surprised how much you are actually eating VS how much you should be eating. It doesnt matter what the back of the package says about calories if you dont follow the serving size.
If I eat something and I'm still hungry I will continue to eat fresh fruit and veggies or a salad until I am satisfied. If your body is hungry and you dont give it what it needs, you're much more likely to binge later on.
i know this wont work for everyone, but so far its worked for me. I've lost 35 lbs since june so i know im doing something right

i've missed all my ladies on the boards! I've been on a loooong hiatus lol. Right after we got back from Bonnaroo last year I found out I was pregnant! I just had my little boy December 15th
I'm def ready to get into shape this year though.. idk if we'll be doing Bonnaroo since we're seing The Dead in April, but I really want to try!
My goal is to keep moving constantly, drink lots of water, & eliminate the junk I crave lol. That latter may be hard, but I'm going to try my best!

Here's what my friend wrote up for me to try. I've been doing this since last week:
Breakfast: Dannon Light Smoothie (strawberry banana falvor) for me this is great because I HATE the texture of yogurt. This stuff is drinkable, just a bit thicker than milk. You can also have Oatmeal or cereal... think Fiber 1 or chereos.
Snack: Any one of these: String cheese (fat free), a piece of fruit or some veges
Lunch: Turkey on a spinach salad with green olives, green onions, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli with honey mustard on top. (not the dressing the real mustard. 10 calories and fat free) OR a turkey sandwich on 100% whole wheat bread. I have been using honey mustard on the sandwiches too. NO MAYO, it's the devil and light mayo tastes like poo. You can get any lunchmeat you want as long as it is the Low Fat 97% or more.
Snack: Special K protein bar (peanut butter chocolate is good.... and filling)
Dinner: 5-8oz of Turkey or chicken breast, whole grain brown rice, and a side of steamed veges.
Snack/Dessert: 1-2 Miller Genuine Draft 64s. Only 64 calories and no fat.
In a day I have been taking in around 700-800 calories (edit: closer to 1000 cal) doing this.
Also , something that helps stop the hunger if you need it is Special K Protein Water Mix. I've tried the pink lemonaid and it is GREAT! 30 calories, no fat and 5g of protein.
My friend that made up this plan for me also said that on the weekend it is ok to cheat a bit if you are strict during the week. He said Eggbeaters are ok for breakfast as are wheat pancakes and waffles and breakfast meat that is low in fat (lean turkey sausage).
He also said that if you have to eat out to get 2 items from the Fresco Menu at Taco Bell or anything with Grilled Chicken at Chic-fil-a.
Also, for those looking for a good low-calorie wheat bread, I've had good success with the Weight Watchers bread. Has a good amount of fiber AND no high-fructose corn syrup. have you tried the WW pitas? theyre the best pita bread option ive found so far. they can be a little dry on their own but once you fill them up theyre really good. and i looooooove to make pita chips with them. I sprinkle them with garlic powder, pop them in the oven for a bit and eat them with hot salsa. soo good!
