my decision to go VIP last year was based a lot on the free food.
I figured I'd be spending $50-60 easy on food a day. That alone is $200-250 that I would have just added onto the GA price.
I figured the proximity and showers would cover the remaining $100 or so, but taking out the food actually puts a pretty big damper on the VIP experience for me.
I registered to express my disappointment with the lack of food as well. Contrary to what others are saying for themselves, the food was a big selling point for me in making the jump from General to VIP. I was sold on doing VIP again based on my experience this last year, and a lot of that had to do with the inclusion of meals to the VIP experience. To have the price go up (not wholly unexpected) and then to have food not included (wholly unexpected) is a major stumbling block for me. With money as tight as it is right now, I suddenly feel a Roo 09 experience is in jeopardy. I'm really disappointed with this news.
You know, the other thing I just thought of was the number of times that the hours for food availablility sort of hampered my day. Having to leave concerts early or arrive late to make sure I ate. Based on cost, convenience and quality, it would have to be cheaper to rely on vendors and your own food (rather than buy the VIP food package). So there's that.
Admittedly, it won't be cheaper to buy a VIP ticket and feed yourself this year, but the convenience and quality of the food is very likely to be higher than it has been, relying on the caterers. I'm not saying that the disappearance of the food is a net positive, just that there are positive aspects to it.

I'm most likely out.
How is it possible to spend that much money on food each day for one person - or are you including buying beer and water with that also?
I dont think I eat enough, in 07 i spent at most like 50 bucks on food for the whole weekend, is beer included with VIP?
Same here... between the girlfriend and I, I think we ate four slices of pizza in Centeroo and a handful of PB&J sammich's at camp. Getting "free" food wouldn't be a draw for me. It's too hot to even realize you're hungry.

Yeppers. I lost like 10 pounds. Whatevs! ;D I think as long as you drink a lot of water, you're okay.
....oh, and you forgot about the Minute Maid Lemonade.... mmmmm.....
I can't see that the food would be that much of a draw - I agree with previous posters for sure - it is way too hot to think about food - I think we ate one decent meal each day and that was normally AFTER the sun went down. We mostly survived on water and fruit cups in camp.

I know I spent about 40 bucks a day for food, I try to eat a little bit of something different everyday which I dont regret. I look foreward to the foods at festivals because of the huge variety in one little "community", the last day I ended up getting a gyro/fajita hookup from a vendor because I backed him up in an arguement.... A neighboring vendor was literally stealing his buiseness by offering free samples to the customers what were in his line and I basically just agreed that it was BS so he gave me my final 2 Bonnaroo meals at no charge lol, quite charitable
Hey all and Happy Holidays, well the time has come. Ginger and I did not attend last year (08) but are planning on attending in 09. The last time we went (in 07) the total price of VIP with a RV pass was $1,274.40 It looks like the bill for 09 will be $1,638.05 with the RV pass This is a $363.65 increase from two yeas ago. I do not know what the prices were in 08.
I don't think we will jump on the payment program, it doesn't look like there will be any cost savings with that plan. Also with the positive reviews I have read about Rothbury, it gives us another option for this summer.
I look at it like this, we really never ate the food offered in VIP, there were not many vegetarian choices anyway, and this is a vacation for us. A week to get away and relax. So by spending $1,638.05 / 2 people = $819.25 / at least ten shows/bands for each of us for the weekend and that comes to $81.92 for each show/band. I know we will see more then that along with the other entertainment that is there. I know we spend more then that on concert tickets locally.
thanks god for my union job...... i'll still go vip, being able to bring my own beverages in and the proximity is worth the cost....Well that is of course if the lineup it decent this year.
Hey Bug - good, positive post. I'm with you. This is a great annual vacation for us and we wouldn't go any way except VIP. The food has never been a draw since there are inexpensive options in Centeroo. Also, since the walk back to camp is shorter in VIP, it's real easy to pop on "home" and grab a snack/beverage/nap without wasting a ton of time. Finally, if the concert happens during a real dry time (like in 2007), camping in the grassy paradise of VIP is a must. Have you ever walked around GA in the dusty heat ---- hoo doggy - black lung disease waiting to happen. Lots of good and mature folks in VIP that are friendly and willing to share. I highly recommend the buy-up if you can spare the cash. See you there bug - throwing some karma to ya....
The food was never a deciding factor for me. It was nice to have, but being able to camp close, having real bathrooms, and not having to wait in line to get in were always much bigger selling points. With so many other festival options, I need to wait and see.

Thanks, for the notes. I'm sure that shelling out $1,600 + is not for everyone. Especially for the younger crowd or really anyone with this economy. It took me 38 years to get to enjoy the things I have now. I know that we plan on several trips a year for vacation and with that comes spending money. I have over a $50,000 in a truck and camper and I plan on using it several times a year. Hey going general admission would not be that bad at all. I have met some of the nicest people at that music festival that we call Bonnaroo.

I'm surprised to see so much ragging on the grub! i thought the food was actually pretty good, especially the burgers and salads! and brownies... after being all sweaty and tired, it was nice to know i had a hot meal waiting for me back at camp all ready to go!
i probably won't be back, just because of the cost, not the lack of food

I'm not really ragging, just stating that there were not many vegetarian selections there in 06 and 07. I know the couple who went with us in 07 liked the buffet very much.
Do we know the cost of VIP in 08? I'm going to guess $150 cheeper on the total bill.
they're obviously banking on a certain headlining act's obsessed fanbase to buy up all these outrageous vip spots regardless, or theres no way they'd be pulling these kind of shennanigans.

I've been to all 'roos and VIP all years it was available. I think it's ubsurd that they raise the price and cut what you get for it. The food at times hasn't been the greatest, but it was edible and convenient and a big part of the reason I went VIP. I doubt I'll go this year. Kanye sucks, Superfly too!
