It makes my decision so much easier this year. I'm done. Last year VIP SUCKED compared to the year before. And my friends were able to sneak in anyway. So I assume it will only continue to go down hill. Only now it's a bigger price jump and no food. Cool.

In 07 my friends and I camped out in GA. The heat coupled with the 45 minute walk had us all exhausted by 1am dreading the walk back. The lineup was sick and we were all in great moods despite. Last year in 08 the same group VIP'd it, a 10 minute walk with no lines was worth every penny. I look at it this way, I'd pay from 20-45 bucks to see most of these bands alone. I had plenty of energy and had no trouble with exhaustion. I was wide awake to see Kanye's glow in the dark spectacular in broad daylight (what a chump). I saw more bands and more full sets than I did the year before and that is why I love Roo; the music. Having a quick cold shower before the late night sets was a eye opener as well, it felt great. We are gonna VIP again. Doesn't bother me that they cut that crappy food out, maybe they'll spend the money on greener energy so that all the RV's can plug in instead of idling, the fumes were contradictory to the rest of the atmoshpere. See you punks in June.
Well, that was a surprise. Not that the food was great but it was easy and I knew I wouldn't go hungry. There were times we just didn't want to wait in the food line and bagged the idea of wasting time. Proximity, bathroom and shower trump food but we were waiting for the lineup anyway!! I mean how much could they possibly ask for a food package? A few hundred?
No maybe I'm just being silly... but the reason they wouldn't announce all the camp improvements is because they NEVER would announce stuff like that for a pre-sale. A pre-sale are for the people that would buy regardless. They'll announce improvements like they do any other feature addition/return, once the new year gets behind us.
Haven't gotten my VIP yet... still thinking of waiting for lineup. Not sure... Maybe for Christmas...

It would be nice to know what the "three exclusive VIP lounges located throughout the site" are going be like. And what the "exclusive VIP meal package" might entail, and how much it might cost.
The VIP information on the Bonnaroo site states that the VIP meal meal plan "will include high quality lunch and dinner buffet services Friday through Sunday." By my count this would only add up to a total of six meals. I sure hope they don't plan on asking for more than about $50 for those meals as otherwise it would make more sense to just buy your meals from the vendors.
I do not think I will buy the meal plan no matter what it costs as I prefer to wander and eat whenever I get hungry while choosing from the wonderful variety available from the vendors.

Weren't there 3 lounges, sort of, last year? Count the catering area as one (there were the beverage sales areas, separate from the food tent). There was the one at the VIP pass through tent at the entrance to the What Stage area. And I think they had a bottled beer/beverage place for VIP up on the grassy knoll inside the What Stage area. That would be 3, same as last year. No change.

Thanks for the info, ThatGrrl! This will be my very first Roo, so I had no idea how they ran things in the past. What were the lounges like last year - air conditioned? Seating? Snacks or beverages?

There will be one behind the grassy hill at the main stage. There will be one between the mainstage and the VIP campground that serves as an entrance to the main stage, and there will be one in the middle of the VIP campground.
This was the setup of the 3 lounges for VIP in 08.
I would like to see a VIP lounge somewhere in Centeroo. A nice air conditioned place to hang out in for a few minutes between sets in the tents would be nice.

At the Mile High Music Festival, they had a couple VIP tents near various stages. They were raised up 3 feet or so, had some provision for air conditioning and a deck to enjoy cocktails.
If they add something similar in the centeroo area, the VIP prices are worth the cost.
I'm struggling with the GA+RV versus VIP pricing. With the GA+RV, I would be reasonably close and save some decent money to spend on Rothbury or Coachella. Such decisions that I struggled to sleep last night.
Things that would be nice: Get rid of the trailer bathrooms Provide better shower facilities Better VIP viewing facilities - adjacent to soundboards
It would be nice to have power, but I invested in a really nice generator, so I have mobile power.
The only reason to do VIP is for Proximity anymore, and I just don't see spending that much for proximity. Even with VIP, I found myself waiting in some lines to get in.
They are "selling" meal packages in VIP. Is this a joke? What exactly does VIP get you anymore?
I really believe there will be "value added" things to the VIP package. I mean, we have all been kickin around the idea of electricity for so long, and now, with so many people complainig, I think this year will rock. This will be my 4th VIP and 7th Roo, I have loved it every year, but I loves me some VIP and I do it every year. I can't wait for 2009, I already have my VIP package and I hope to see you all there. But really, I think that Superfly is gonna give us great things for being in VIP this year... just you wait... special viewing areas, lounges, and benefits... I'm sure that this year will be amazing!
And if you don't wanna go VIP that's cool. Those that do every year still will. We will always be there. And we will always have a great time. If you are camping in VIP and are bad ass at beer pong... come to our camp site and join my team.

My VIP experience would have sucked last year had it not been for Steel_City_X. That doesn't have anything to do with the organization or lack thereof.
Taking away the free food, which wasn't ever really that good isn't a big deal. Charging people more per ticket, and then tacking on a meal plan for extra money (for what I can only assume will be the same crappy grub) is total bullhonkey. This may be the year I do what I swore never to do, and go back to GA.
Yeah. My cost benefit analysis of VIP is starting to get out of whack though.
Hey buddy, good to see your post. I'm looking for my next career to be a professional Taj Ma Tarp builder.
I am also struggling with the cost benefit ratio. I'd rather do GA+RV pass and know that I am fairly close, have a little space and be able to run my generator for creature comforts. I loved the proximity to Centeroo, but the cost has gotten too high without knowing what added amenities are in mind for Roo 2009. Without the ability to run back for meals, I do not know if I would head back to camp as often.
I met some others from GA+RV and they seemed to not dread the long walk to camp. I would rather add to my collection of creature comforts, meet up with other Inforooers and all hang out together somewhere in GA - that is UNLESS something is announced about VIP facilities.
I'm ready to buy my tickets, but it is just not enough of a benefit for the added facilities last year. I can have my own PETT toilet - the trailer toilets were not that great - admittedly far better than a porta-potty, but there were not enough of them - too often lines, and many times not that clean.

I am telling you - GA + RV + Access camping should be very similar to VIP. It is close - the main difference I think is the lack of easy, quick access to Centerro - BUT there is a seperate Access entrance that you can use if you stop at the Access welcome booth and get an Access armband
If the price hike is caused by an increase in the number of top quality bands being signed, I'm all for it. We spent the whole time sick to our stomachs and couldn't eat the food anyways. Minnesota people NO LIKE HEAT!!!
lol. Us Manitobans can't handle it well either, but considering it's currently -45 outside, I won't complain
Welcome to Winnipeg - Where Fahrenheit meets Celcius!

Bonnaroo has some of the best festival food imaginable. It was nice travelling down and trying some food that we just don't get up north. The alligator nuggets were awesome.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. The women's restrooms in VIP were pretty much immaculate...there were very few times I used them when there wasn't an attendant in there checking to make sure the stalls were clean and stocked. I was pleasantly surprised.

Sassbox!,
Guys are pigs....isn't that what is frequently said? The other issue was that the water supply was overflowing and created a muddy mess - made late night more of a challenge.
I was in the accessible area of VIP, so we had the restrooms closest to the food trough's, maybe busier than over by where you all were set up.
I still can't decide. I'll find out if my son's doctor is comfortable issuing a disabled parking tag for us. Between his 3 hip surgeries, heart and lung issues, we might qualify to join Meg, Boz, and Bamabelle in their RV compound.

If they aren't willing to give you a disabled pass considering the issues at hand, there's something wrong with the system. My uncle has some sort of irregular heartbeat and had a pacemaker put in. They gave him a parking pass no problem. Then again, I'm talking about the Canadian healthcare system where they basically just hand you whatever you ask for

Hey man! Let me know if you have an extra spot or two in your RV. I might have a knee surgery looming on the horizon, *cringe* so I may qualify for accessible stuff as well.

I've purchased my GA+RV+Companion Vehicle tickets. It is my plan to go into the Accessible Camping area with Meg, Boz, Bamabelle if at all possible. I really do not have an RV. Last year I had a trailer for all my crap. I do not think I'll bring the trailer this year, but I'd rather have extra space in the camping area.
I am thinking of getting one of these (the Roof Top Tent):
Plus having a 9x12 tent or awning as a shade area to hang out. I will be bringing my generator again so that I can have real fans and lights. Creature comforts rule!
Let me know if you are interested in being the companion vehicle.
After last year I think I'm more of a fan of the VIP just for how easy it was to check in and get to your campsite (huge improvement over the year before). We drove past 17 miles of cars waiting to get into the temporary Roo Exit last year, as I drove past doing about 55 mph. 30 minutes later (with a stop by Food Lion for some extra ice) we had our wrist bands on, were happily through the car check, and putting up the campsite.
I'm not a fan of lines by any means, and most of the time I'll wind up saying the hell with it if they're too long for me. I think even I could handle the line to get into centeroo, but that car line to get onto the farm would drive me crazy.
I know it's not for everyone....that's why it's called VIP. But I would rather blow my entire trip budget on this and really enjoy the whole experience instead of going GA and have other vacation options.

I would rather pay the money for me and 5 friends to go GA then pay for me and a friend go Vip. I think having friends there makes Bonnaroo a better place. I havent had any problems in GA, and getting there from 8am-2pm on Thursday gives you a good spot. I walked about 8 minutes to get to my campsite from the arch. This year i wonder if people will be getting there really early, but we will see. I did want to do VIP his year, but not after the price increase. I still have a friend who owes me for last years ticket, and I might just forgive the debt out of principle since she avoids hanging out for that reason and shes broke. This year Im not buying my friends tickets though. Money doesnt mean that much to me, but some things have to be weighed on worthwhileness.
