Wow, I'm really glad people are calling for Isis on the farm. They are one of my favorite bands, and I'm yet to see them live, plus they have a new album dropping sometime next year. I couple other names I'd like to throw out are Russian Circles, who are an instrumental post metal band somewhat similar to Isis. Another one is called Agalloch they're kind of a mix between folk, post, doom, and black metal. They have an extremely ambient sound, and would be fairly assessable to someone whose not a metalhead. The last one is Cynic who just released a excellent album called Traced In Air, last month. They Pioneered the Jazz-Metal Sub-genres are all amazing musicians.

How about Dub Trio. They were the backing band for Peeping Tom when they toured a couple years ago. Started out as an instrumental reggae band but now mix in a lot of harder metal type elements.

I agree with all the Isis comments...I'd pretty much crap my pants in happiness.
I saw Coheed once...they didn't impress me too much and I somehow unded up on the bottom of a 7 person pile-up ???...and on top of that their music (imo) has been going down for the past few years due to the self-proclaimed prophecy that the band must have x numbers of CDs before they can retire from the music industry...I just don't think that they'd be the greatest roo fit.
But my vote goes for Pelican. Look them up...they're all but absolutely perfect for the roo.
in terms of heavier bands i would LIKE are of course deftones but given the bass player is yet to come out of his coma it definately wont happen, unless they were to get a replacement. they would have been awesome for late night.
i hope i do not get smited for this but i think smashing pumpkins are a good possibility. i know lots of people think they suck now and that its not really the pumpkins with just billy and jimmy (not to mention the huge distaste towards zeitgeist), but from what i've gathered from my friends that have seen them on tour within the last two years they still put on a hell of a show and still play lots of old stuff. i think they are also picking up lots of friends from the "jam" community being they put some lengthy jams on lots of their songs now and post recordings of their shows on livedownloads.com..... not saying that you have to like it, but i think its a big possibility and would go over well with lots of festival goers. although i did hear their virginfest show kinda sucked. idk.
i am not a fan but i went to a Between the Buried and Me show with my brother and have to admit it was pure mayhem and quite beautiful in terms of metal. i think they would go over well with the metalheads at roo.
^ No smiting from me! I would like to see Smashing Pumpkins even though I didn't like Zeitgeist. I bought it when it cam out and have only listened to it two or three times. I guess I really didn't give it a fair chance but I'd rather just pop in some of the older stuff into the CD player.

I would love to see any of the following there:
Tool - again System of a Down NIN Rage The Mars Volta - although not quite "heavy" or metal I think they are heavier than most bands that play at Roo. Iron Maiden ;D
yeah. i was listening to clips from the pumpkins halloween show this year and i am really tempted to purchase the show from livedownloads. i'll never forget how i was supposed to see them in 2007 on halloween in atlanta but they had to cancel from jimmy's heart problems. couldnt make the makeup show and i couldnt get a refund because i got the ticket off ebay. truly sucked.
also in terms of heavier acts i would expect the mars volta to have good possibilities of reappearing.
AC/DC please, I can't pay for their concert in Philly ;D
The only real "metal" I like, would be Black Sabbath I guess, but I've seen them a whole bunch of times. So beyond AC/DC, I'd have to go with S.O.A.D. Their first album is just amazing, and as long as they didn't play anything past Toxicity I'd be down for their show

as far as metal at roo goes, im down with it, as long as it is decent metal. And all the metal fans at roo were great, especially the Tool fans.
But am I the only one surprised that more bands in the doom metal variety arent playing? Doom metal is pretty much synonymous with stoner metal, which I think we can all agree would go over decently with a bonnaroo crowd.
I really really really hope to see bands like Earth, Boris, Melvins, Om, Witchcraft, Isis, Neurosis, ect. All of these bands are sure to put on a great show, plus i think they would be very well received

Pelican would be awesome.
Oh and you can add me to the list of people who want to see Isis
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

I still want Baroness more than any of them. I'd really dig Pelican, Isis, High On Fire, Neurosis, Don Cab, Earth, Opeth, Dub Trio, Torche, Graveyard, Witchcraft....etc, etc. Baroness really just rocks my effing world. Red Album is so godddamn fantastic it hurts.
Oh, and internjeff, Tub Ring is terrible, they make me want to cut my balls off with a rusty spork....effing terrible. (sorry if you dig em, ugh, not for me.)

Yeah...I saw Coheed at VooDoo in 2007....I was really psyched to check them out, along with Porcupine Tree...and I was WAAAY more impressed with Porcupine Tree than Coheed. They were OK...but pretty much just a standard rock band.
And as for the Pumpkins....saw them in 2007....was not impressed.
NIN and RATM I have seen twice in the last two years and both times BOTH put on some of the most incredible shows I have ever seen or heard! Either of them and I'd be a happy girl! ;D

I'm surprised there has been no mention of Limp Bizkit?! HAHA JK of course! I would be down for some of these heavier bands to be at 'Roo: RATM SOAD(if they were to pull a Metallica and play all older stuff) American Head Charge Smashing Pumpkins(just because I have never seen them) Isis Queens of the Stone Age
Oh, and another thing I would like to say about Rage is that they could have some great collabo possibilities(CYPRESS HILL) if they were to play.

This, +1 for the American Head Charge ref, they're so unheard of and its sad because they have some of the best of this music to offer, I could go on and on (been a HUGE fan since 99)

Coheed is the kind of band that you need to see play their own show to appreciate. Their songs are so long that at festivals they kinda get screwed. You don't get to see them jam, it's kind've a greatest hits sort of thing. There is a storyline behind all their records too and when it's played in it's entirety like they did in NYC back in October, it can blow your mind. Could I just be a fanatic? Possibly. But I think you should give them another chance.

^^I too love the C&C, and agree with the solo show statement. In their own element, they are amazing. Why else would Warren Haynes himself love them and not only jam with them, but invite them to his X-mas Jam?

+1 for you.
Glad someone other than me has some Coheed love. Ever since I experienced this I knew they would be a fit for roo.
