I'd be willing to give C&C another chance....they were good...but not all that I had heard they were. So maybe they were just out of their element at VooDoo....got some GREAT pix of them tho...LOL!
i gotta agree with the Coheed love. i have seen them 3 times and they are one of the best rock bands i have seen.
i saw them do 2 shows in which they headlined in which they played about 2 hours and they were just simply unreal. the other time i saw them they did about a 45 minute set for a show that a detroit station puts on every year(the night 89-x stole x-mas).
as others said when they can do their full set they are much better because they are able to really go into the guitar solos and everything and do the extended songs. although when i saw their short set they were still pretty good IMO.
other bands i'd like to see are Rage and The Butthole Surfers

'Roo should book Hide Your Daughters. They're not too well known as they mainly play around Winnipeg, but they have done some touring in the past (and I believe are touring this spring/summer). If you're into heavy, noisy music, you'll probably love these guys. Check out some of the bands in their friend's list, too. There are some badass noise-metal/stoner-metal-esque bands coming out of Winnipeg these days.

NIN - maybe the organizers could book them for their last show before the hiatus.
Foo Fighters - ever heard Dave Grohl scream? They may not be metal, but they're definitely heavy, they like to jam, and they play great covers. I think they're perfect for Bonaroo.
Queens of the Stone Age
Boris
System of a Down - they won't be getting back together any time soon, but when they do hopefully it'll be at Bonnaroo
Tool - they may not be around after their next album and subsequent tours, so they definitely need to play the festival again before they're gone.

I like the Torche, Isis, Pelican, Boris, QOTSA, and Baroness suggestions. But I think what people are forgetting is Bonnaroo isn't really a metal festival. Yes, they have expanded the variety of music they book, but I still think there's a point where a band's just too heavy for Bonnaroo. Mastodon, Tool, Metallica, and The Sword worked because they are metal bands that appeal to a lot of people who aren't metal fans. I think those are the type of metal bands that Bonnaroo's going to be booking in the future

Those guys have been offered some pretty high priced gigs/tours, but they'll never accept them. Scott Reeder says he'd play with Kyuss again, "just for the free beer", but I don't think Josh Homme and John Garcia are too high on the idea. They really want to protect Kyuss' legacy as one of the most badass underground bands ever.
'tis too bad, as I would do anything to see a Kyuss show. The closest they've come to a reunion is John Garcia joining Queens on stage a few years back in LA. I have a bootleg if anyone is interested.

yea, i know. i think it will happen eventually. but probably at coachella, not roo.
Yeah...I saw Coheed at VooDoo in 2007....I was really psyched to check them out, along with Porcupine Tree...and I was WAAAY more impressed with Porcupine Tree than Coheed. They were OK...but pretty much just a standard rock band.
And as for the Pumpkins....saw them in 2007....was not impressed.
NIN and RATM I have seen twice in the last two years and both times BOTH put on some of the most incredible shows I have ever seen or heard! Either of them and I'd be a happy girl! ;D
Coheed is the kind of band that you need to see play their own show to appreciate. Their songs are so long that at festivals they kinda get screwed. You don't get to see them jam, it's kind've a greatest hits sort of thing. There is a storyline behind all their records too and when it's played in it's entirety like they did in NYC back in October, it can blow your mind. Could I just be a fanatic? Possibly. But I think you should give them another chance.
I saw Coheed when they played with Dredge and The Blood Brothers back my senior year of high school...so it was around 2-3 years ago. I honestly wasn't too impressed...but again it could have had something to do with the ridiculous amount of pushing and shoving...I'd give them a chance at Roo...just not over Isis or Pelican

Everyone's got their own opinion but thinking about that show just makes me miss the insanity of blood brothers.

Just some ideas to throw around...
I do think that metal definately has a place at the Roo. To a lesser degree, Primus/Claypool in any form has always been close to metal to me. Possible band ideas for the Roo in the metal department...
SevenDust---Always amazing live! Queens of the Stone Age--with their revolving artists, it could be AMAZING! Foo Fighters--Probably not, but they did play Austin City Limits last year. and the last crazy idea on this front....GNR. I know it sounds far-fetched, but they NEED good publicity (as did Metallica after the HORRIFIC St.Anger CD!!!) and it would DEFINATELY attract some people. The goal this year (I believe) is to have diversity, still have Jam Bands (Perhaps the ULTIMATE one if Phish comes) and bring some more rock into the fold. Perhaps easie said then done...

Some bands I'd like to see at Roo, some who are very heavy, and fast. Dredg, as mentioned, but for the heavier variety, Gojira. They play fast and hard, and if you read the lyrics i think some of the bonnaroo people could get into them. Dillinger Escape Plan, from the looks of it these guys shred live. Meshuggah, I don't know what their touring plans are, but this would be a sweet tent show, maybe even latenight. Also a Hank III/Ass Jack set would be sweet. I would really love to see there be a metal/heavy tent latenight. I certainly wouldn't be there all night, but I imagine there would be one show I'd see. Perhaps have Slayer headline it one night and Motorhead or Megadeath another night, or even TMV. I say bring the metal/death metal/prog metal. The bands generally aren't big enough to attract a lot of fans to just see them. I think it would do less harm than people think.
Edit: Also Opeth would be sweet, haven't seen them mentioned on this page at least.
Queens of the Stone Age - Not really heavy, but would be a perfect fit for Roo. Surprised they haven't been there before.
Opeth - One of my favorite bands. I know a lot of people will be turned off by the growls, but the way they use them is so perfect. Would love to see them there.
Dillinger Escape Plan - DEP give all they've got at every concert and are really intense live.
Between the Buried and Me - Seems unlikely, but they really are a great group of musicians. Their latest album Colors in unbelievable, and I think they could win over some new fans at Roo.
Protest the Hero - Haven't seen them mentioned before. Would be a great band to be featured late Thursday or mid-day Fri/Sat.
i actually heard today from a BTBAM (between the buried and me) fan today that they are supposed to be playing bonnaroo. take it with a grain of salt but i thought from the get go that they would be a good fit for the metal category. only 4 to 6 weeks until we get that lineup.

If Between the Buried and Me played Colors straight through I would be waiting in front of that stage 2-3 hours before.
Between the Buried and Me would be awesome! Maybe we can get some ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Glassjaw and Hot Water Music to...they'd all fit in well.....oh and maybe an At The Drive-In reuinion...Mars Volta could play to..it'd be okay, and maybe One Day as a Lion
