Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Is it blasphemous to say I'm not pumped at all about this? I guess I'll see it if there's no better options but I've never gotten into the Boss. Maybe seeing him would change my mind?
I guess it depends if you like rock music or not. If you do, then by all means, don't pass up the opportunity. I have seen my fair share of concerts, and nobody that I have seen thus far can command a stage and an audience like Bruce. Only Bono has ever come close IMO (however, I'm too young to have ever seen Freddie Mercury). Plus, the E Street Band is fantastic. I never understand how all nine of them always stay together and are able to follow Bruce's many audibles.
Just don't go expecting to hear his so-called "popular" songs like Born in the USA, I'm on Fire, Glory Days, Dancing in the Dark, Secret Garden, Streets of Philly, Hungry Heart etc. I'm not saying he won't play them (since the new tour hasn't started, it's impossible to predict), but you'd be lucky to get two or three of those a night. I went to three shows during the Magic tour and only heard I'm on Fire once and Dancing twice.
Also, you probably already know this, but don't go expecting anything "chill" b/c there is nothing "chill" about his performance.
I would be totally psyched if he were to headline one night, but it would ruin an entire day for me since I would have to spend the day worrying about being as close to the stage as possible and completely sober. Here's hoping for Friday although that doesn't look very feasible!!
^^^You may be correct. I know that regular tickets were only around 65K, and I had heard they didn't pull in as much as previous years, but I can't say for sure that that's the case. To be fair, I never said they didn't make any money. I also did hear they were the highest grossing festival, so of course they raked in some green. I'm just wondering how much they really have to work with.
Getting slightly off subject, but the grossings things was bugging me, so I did some research:
04-14.5 05-13.4 06.14.7 07-17 mil 08-17 mil (Bonnaroo was the 4th highest grossing event in the world behind Spice Girls, Celine Dion, and Madonna with Bruce behind roo)This would make them th highest grossing fest in the world as well.
Between all the sponsors they have helping them fund the festival, raised prices, and the prospect of having Phish and Bruce on the farm, they have money to throw down. It also helps they own the farm, so much renting in not an issue.
Hey guys I wanted to post that I got official confirmation from my source earlier tonight in an email, my source has known Bruce Springsteen for over 40 years and is best friends with Bruce's manager. I have been annoying him for months about the possibility of Bruce but he would never acknowledge me by giving me a yes or no that Bruce was playing. In the last three years he would always tell me right away no because he would just call Bruce's manager and then relay the message but now he finally emailed me saying he's allowed to tell now that Its official from the Bruce camp that Bruce will headline and he was also told that Phish is confirmed also. My source is the real deal I wish I was able to provide a link but in this case I can't. Because of my friend I have been able to meet Bruce and hang out with him about 4 times in the last 5 years so I know he is not lying. He told me Bruce camp is planning on unveiling the upcoming tour dates right after the Super Bowl performance that is why Bonnaroo moved the annoucement of the lineup up to a few days after the Super Bowl to coincide with Bruce making the annoucement. I know that I will be smited for making this post up until we get the official lineup but to give myself some credibility I have never posted in the past any confirmations of bands or rumors. I just know this to be a FACT because I made friends with this guy about 6 years ago and found out through our friendship that he grew up with Bruce. I will never make a claim I wouldn't back up with my honesty and to be honest he's one of only 2 people I know in the music industry. I had a feeling the boss was official last month when my friend bought tickets the day they went on sale and normally he doesn't do that until the lineup comes out but now I have confirmation from him and I need to make sure I get a ticket when they go on sale. Phish and Bruce will sell out quick.
I believe you. That's exciting. Thanks for sharing. I would love, love, love it if Bruce Springsteen performed all of Nebraska at Bonnaroo. It seems like an album that would really speak to the spirit of Bonnaroo. I have to admit that I've always felt that I should be a fan of Bruce Springsteen but I have never fully embraced or sought out his music. I own two of his albums: The River and Nebraska and I thorough enjoy both. I love the rawness and immediacy of Nebraska and I imagine that the album was an inspiration to Conor Oberst, Bon Iver, and Ryan Adams. A blog friend of mine shared a video of Bruce Springsteen covering "The Times They Are A'Changin" and I must admit that I think that the Boss performed the best Bob Dylan cover that I've ever heard and Bob Dylan is my favorite artist. Anyway, I bought my tickets the second that the holiday pre-sale began, but I'm very excited to see Bruce Springsteen and Phish.

To stray even futher off subject... Dude, The Spice Girls are up there with Celine Dion and Madonna?! I had no quacking idea their tour was that popular.
those tour dates do not inspire confidence. that said, i'm still buying it... for now...
I have to agree....looking at his schedule...he will have to leave for Europe directly after the Superbowl...will be in Norway on the 10th....then back in Germany in July....

I've been back and forth on this, but I think these tour dates may, in fact, make Bonnaroo more likely. Coincidence that the confirmed dates stop right before Bonnaroo? No. Bruce comes home, plays a gig TN, then jets home to rest up for a few days before Glasto. Seems reasonable for someone who has their own plane.
I agree with Detective. Bruce and his band have been touring the globe for decades and are very experienced at dealing with the issues and stress caused by jumping continents and time zones in a short amount of time. Making a trip like this makes even more sense if you have free time aftewards but even that is not a requirement as evidenced by Metallica's visit to Roo between European dates last year.

Boston radio is reporting today that Bruce will play Boston for 2 nights in April (21,23? maybe),with tickets going on sale Feb 2, which is the day after the SB.Pretty sure the Pinkpop festival in Holland will kick off the Euro leg of the tour. One of the insiders at Backstreets has posted that the tour was supposed to kick off in late feb/March,but that the start has been postponed till April.
I knew nothing about 'roo till a week or so ago, when some folks on Backstreets started posting the "rumours".But I've really enjoyed lurking and reading threads like this, and I'm hoping the OP (who strikes me as sound and connected) is right on the call.
Looking forward to reading how some of the "Bruce virgins" get blown away by seeing him live. However, there will undoubtedly be people who still don't get him, after seeing a live show. That's just the nature of the Beast...
I saw 5 Magic shows,3 in the Pit,and always enjoyed observing what new fans who had never seen a full on ESB show experienced that night.I live in Indiana, and besides the Indy show,I also drove to Pittsburgh and Minneapolis for November shows, and then caught the Nashville show in August. The setlist changes nightly, and the summer '08 shows featured 2 or 3 mins of Bruce collecting signs and playing 5 or 6 requests impromptu...
I'm a little too old (54) to camp out in the mud for 3 days, but I have relatives about 45 min north of Nashville, which makes for a nice little 2 hr commute.Even though Bruce only plays about 3 hrs, it's pretty much an all day experience.
A normal indoor show has people checking in from about 1-5 to get their wristbands for the Pit lottery, with the lottery drawn at 5:30.Takes about an hour to get everything organized, and they usually take the Pit in about 6:30.
Since Bruce usually hits the stage at about 8:30,it's about a 2 hr wait, with a lot of standing. Not sure how that will work out in a festival setting, with several acts playing on multiple stages. But the earlier show in the NL will likely provide some sort of framework for what type of arrangements Bruce's security people are willing to embrace...
It's most likely Bonnaroo will do the same thing as the last two years as far as spots close to the stage. They have a small area blocked off in front of the stage. It is cleared out after each performer. New people are then let in after waiting in line. Seperate lines form for each performer. It's a pretty good system. I think it was started by European festivals as a safety measure.

I seriously doubt they would, but I really hope no Spanish fans make the trek across the pond for this one since they have been known to start lining up three days before the show!!
I have decided that if Bruce Springsteen is the headliner, I will without a doubt buy my Roo tickets as soon as I see the lineup. I'm not a huge Bruce fan, but being able to see him would be great. His shows in Pittsburgh usually sell out in minutes, and to see Bruce and 50 other bands for 250 bucks... sure beats just seeing Bruce for 100 bucks.

I've found that Nebraska really is the key to loving Bruce Springsteen. Not to downtalk any of his other stuff, or even say that Nebraska is better, but after hearing that album, I always listen to his music in the context of a man and an acoustic guitar. For example, I always thought "Dancing In The Dark" was kinda cheesy, and too radio-friendly. But then I imagined the words and the melody being played in the style of Nebraska, and thought about how it applied to the characters on that album, and now I think it's fucking amazing.

I think that they start lining up at the begining of the prior set. The crowds filtered through pretty quickly last year durring Pearl Jam and Metallica as I just walked up mid-set and got in within a song or two.
As far as lining up days early, the What Stage area is shut down about an hour after the last act and isn't reopened until and hour before the first act on the stage. (Sometimes not even then, as I unsuccessfully argued with the Security Guards who wouldn't let me enter through the BFE/VIP shortcut as the first band of the day was playing last year!)

As early as you want after the What Stage area opens. Last year I did it for BB King, there were already good sized lines for Jack Johnson and Pearl Jam.
Boston is definite,April 21 and 22,tickts on sale Feb 2.Also hearing an unconfirmed show in Dallas on April 14.
There is a SB Press Conference in Tampa on Thur 29th. Speculation is mounting that they will release the US dates there, and most of the shows will go on sale on the 2nd.That scenario would allow them to sell tickets for regular shows before announcing a 'Roo show, similar to the way Harley Fest tickets were sold last year.
If anyone has Sirius/XM radio,E Street Radio will be broadcasting from Tampa all next week, and will carry the presser live.E street is also a great way for people unfamiliar with Bruce to get a crash course, and I highly recommend it.In addition to hearing everything in the catalog, they have celebrity guest DJs,a daily fan playing their personal favorites show, and 3 live boot shows each day.
Vandy I know what you are saying about Euro fans, they are crazy.I went to the last Rising show at Giants Stadium, and rode a bus from the Port Authority to the Stadium. The first 10 busses were full of Euros, who were all travelling together, and were attending like 2 weeks of shows...

Question about the pits, do they estimate crowd size and the "cut off" the line when they think they pit would be full? Or do you run the chance of waiting in line, and then not making into the pit?

Yeah, they let the first X number of people in and then as folks leave they let new ones in so you do run the risk of not getting in.

This may point in the direction of a 'ROO appearance, but it's hard to tell. The Euopean shows went on sale this morning, and the Stockholm shows sold out within an hour and resulted in a 3rd show being added. That's a 60,000 or so soccer stadium, and the shows are prior to the 2 dates in Norway on 6/9,10.
What's telling is that the Bergen shows sold out as well, and no new show was added,as yet at least. They could easily sell out a 3rd show in Bergen,it's a smaller setting for 1 thing. But they didn't add a 3rd show, which leads me to believe that the calendar is booked...
As to questions about the Pit experience,I found a remarkable vid on youtube from Paris 2003.They do it different in Europe, you just stake a place in line, camp there and then it's first come first served.
In the US it's lottery. All the Gen Admission ticket holders can get a number, and they draw a winning number and that person becomes #1 person in line, with subsequent numbers following sequentially. So they draw 765,then 766 becomes #2,and 764 is SOL.Usually anywhere from 1000-1300 people in the lottery, and depending on venue size 300-500 normally make the Pit.
You can often hear a soundcheck, and sometimes even peek thru a door when the guards aren't watching. But for some reason, they actually allowed these folks into the Stadium in Paris during the soundcheck, and they basically got to enjoy a brief pre-concert concert.Pretty cool...

I was part of the mad dash when they first opened the What Stage on Friday, I didnt realize at first but everyone was sprinting to be first in line for Metallicas show when the stage opened at like 2, I was the 3rd person in line because I thought it was the line for Stephen Marley but I went into the pit and was right up on the rail once I realized that Marley had no line. No way would I wait ALL DAY to be in the pit, there were tons of people jumping in line at the Kanye show, and my brother got in for Jack Johnson without waiting for ever. I found that the shows I wanted to be in the pit for I got in the pit for (I didnt try for JJ, PJ or Metallica but I was second row for WSP).
I just read this article bonnaroolineup.blogspot.com/ and it says Springsteen will close the festival on Sunday, I dont know how legit that is but it seems like a good fit IMO.

Phish Friday Headlining, Other Headliner Saturday Night, Phish Saturday late night around Kanyes slot, Springsteen Sunday headliner would be the ideal lineup for me, if I go.
Rats. Tickets for the Charlottesville, VA Springsteen concert go on sale here before they announce the 'Roo lineup. I suppose I could just buy them and then sell them if Bruce is confirmed for Bonnaroo. It'll sell out here, so finding a buyer shouldn't be difficult.

Yeah, Europe has always been first come, first served. The U.S. was that way on the Rising tour for the most part. That changed on the Magic tour. There are pros and cons to both.

I agree about the pros and cons.I camped out for about 2 days for the Indy Rising show, and that was in Dec I think. We didn't have to stay out continuously, just show up for various attendance checks, but it was danged cold!!
The lottery is a lot less time consuming, and works out better if you're travelling.I had pretty good luck on Magic.I had GA for 4 shows, and made the Pit for 3 of those.
I usually only buy GA,but couldn't get any for Pittsburgh,so had to buy a seat.Wasn't bad,but I just prefer to be standing on the floor.I was elbows on stage in Nashville and Bruce spent a lot of time in our area,so that was pretty awesome...

A normal indoor show has people checking in from about 1-5 to get their wristbands for the Pit lottery, with the lottery drawn at 5:30.Takes about an hour to get everything organized, and they usually take the Pit in about 6:30.

Man if you like music at all, I would recommend you come to Bonnaroo for the experience. I have been with plenty of people your age or over, some of whom are active on this board. By all means come for Springsteen but come for the whole experience as well. If you read around on this board you can take careof any potential problems or hassles and have yourself the weekend of your life, and you will walk away a changed man.
