I'm still thinking there's gonna be a headliner for the younger/mainstream folk. Bruce is getting there... but it's no Pearl Jam / Jack Johnson / Kanye West / White Stripes / etc. to appeal to the young folk. I'm still predicting possibly Beck, Oasis, Beastie Boys, The Verve, or the Flaming Lips. All with more recent material or with plans to tour.
However... it would go against my theory of getting a hipper act... but I'd also like to see Neil Young as the final headliner.

i think we are getting weezer. there was rumor and then bonnaroo radio has been playing them too.
DJJD did already allude to no Oasis in a previous, Lost-related twit (same one used to dismiss Oasis last year). If we are to believe Edgecrusher, the Beastie Boys aren't headlining. Neither Beck nor the Flaming Lips have done anything to become more of a headliner since their last Roo appearances. And I really don't see The Verve as a Bonnaroo Headliner for many reasons but most strongly my gut.
That said, I do agree that we are lacking a more "edgy" headliner.

Although I'm still a little skeptical about edgecrusher's tip, especially now that it conflicts with ilovefestys', I want to add something that occurred to me.
If Superfly/AC has achieved what many thought impossible and booked Phish, and on top of that booked the very successful Boss, they surely can't have too much money left for another really big name. Also keep in mind that their revenues were down last year, which would affect their budget for this year. Therefore I'm thinking that this heavier, funkier, younger-skewing, electronic-influenced act can't be that big of a name, or at least notably smaller than Phish and Bruce. I guess this conflicts with what edgecrusher said about The Beastie Boys being too small, and alluding that this mystery band is as big, but he may be exaggerating (if he's telling the truth at all-- with all due respect). Anyway, now I really think it could be Portishead.

alas you guys forget, the farm has changed...it has gotten much more corporate and through advertising and sponsorship they can attract more and better bands...Pearl Jam, Metallica, Chris Rock, Kanye West, Robert Plant, Jack Johnson, and The Raconteurs all cost a nice sum of money. I would put Widespread, but don't think so, I think they just like playing at Bonnaroo.

I don't think any of the artists you listed are charging/earning as much as Phish will be. And Bruce is no small potatoes; he'd rank up there with at least the first couple you mentioned. And you seem to forget (even though I just said it), Bonnaroo didn't have such a great year last year, and that would affect what they can do this year.
But to add to what I said previously, I think the most likely choice is Nine Inch Nails. They are pretty hot right now, bigger than Portishead but not quite as big as Bruce (or Phish), and they more or less meet all of edgecrusher's hints. My official guess is NIN.

"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont, and we're slowly learning that fact & we're very, very pissed off......."
I don't know where all this Bonnaroo didn't make money last year talk is coming from... I thought I read an article last year that said that with the increased sponsorship and the sell out of VIP tickets that Bonnaroo brought in their biggest profit ever. Sorry I looked for the link and couldn't find it does anyone have a source that says they lost moneyor had lower profits? Just curious.

^^^You may be correct. I know that regular tickets were only around 65K, and I had heard they didn't pull in as much as previous years, but I can't say for sure that that's the case. To be fair, I never said they didn't make any money. I also did hear they were the highest grossing festival, so of course they raked in some green. I'm just wondering how much they really have to work with.

I'd be curious to find out what their actual budget is for buying talent.

Is it blasphemous to say I'm not pumped at all about this? I guess I'll see it if there's no better options but I've never gotten into the Boss. Maybe seeing him would change my mind?

I would be absolutely ecstatic if the headliners were Bruce, Phish, and NIN. Neither Bruce nor NIN are really at the top of my favorites, but they're both shows that I would only see at the Roo. Or any festival, for that matter... I just don't think they'd play many American festivals besides Roo, if any.
I saw NIN last year at Lolla and it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. I know that Trent said the aren't doing the same setup this year but I would still love to see them at roo. Plus they would provide some diversity in the headliners which roo has been moving towards.
I know for a fact Bonnaroo had record profits last year...
They didn't sell as many tickets, but the increase in ticket prices was enough to make more money than they made the previous year. I also know that Bonnaroo was the highest grossing festival in the world last... and one of the highest grossing shows (with a Springsteen show and I think a Spice Girls show ahead) last year. I'll post the links when I find them.
If this rumor does prove to be true, I hope a lot of die hard fans make the plunge and come. I know this is true to a certain extent of all bands, but Bruce really feeds off the crowd. Plus, the audience participation is a large part of the fun!!

I think it makes the most sense to have Phish play Friday night and Saturday late night in the Kanye slot at an attempt to erase that terrible memory. Then Springsteen can play Saturday night headliner slot. We get another 2 more headliners for Friday and Sunday!

This is so exciting!!!
I'm sorry but I strongly disagree. I'm not a huge fan of Phish but since their live show is so amazing I would shoot myself if I had to choose between them and a band like Ghostland Observatory or Sigur Rós during late night, cause I would have to choose Phish both nights. I would think people would revolt if that were to happen.

If Paul McCartney is going to headline Coachella, then it's presumable that Neil Young wont be there. Maybe he'll be at Bonnaroo instead of Springsteen.
Phish - Neil Young (preferably with Crazy Horse) - "newer rock(or kinda, you know)-y band"

That would be a good top line.
Booker T and the MG's are recording a new album with Neil Young
EDIT: Check that - Neil Young is working with Booker T on his solo album, due out in April.
