I was lucky enough to get in the pit for Wilco, then get back in line and get in line for Bruce. Thanks to everyone in the pit that made that such a great atmosphere. I hope I'm that awesome when I'm 59.

did things sound really great from the pit? i should have tried to get in, I was at my spot from Rod y Gab on. The girls in front of me, I swear, 16 yrs old, knew every word to every song. Guys behind me, 50s, same thing. I loved it. Mad respect for the Boss. He is truly all about his fans, from inviting people to his house for a haunted house to taking requests, it really shows a lot about the man.
Nothing too different, but there were a lot more changes than I would have thought with his playing it safe with the setlist. Also an interesting thought to put Hard Times in the middle of the set. Don't worry, I am not doing any sort of analysis
1) Badlands 2) No Surrender 3) My Lucky Day 4) Prove It All Night 5) Outlaw Pete 6) Out in the Street 7) Working on a Dream 8) Seeds 9) Johnny 99 10) The Ghost of Tom Joad / Youngstown 11) Raise Your Hand 12) Because the Night 13) Thunder Road 14) Sunny Day 15) Promised Land 16) Hard Times 17) Kingdom of Days 18) Radio Nowhere 19) Lonesome Day 20) The Rising 21) Born to Run
22) Rosalita 23) Land of Hope and Dreams 24) American Land 25) Glory Days / Dancing in the Dark
One of the highlights of the weekend for me. Bruce was everything you could want out of a "classic rock" type headliner - high energy, good selection of hits and some more rare stuff, and clearly loved being there, and loved the crowd.
If you didn't have fun at Bruce Springsteen, there's something seriously wrong with you. You're either lacking a sense of humor, you're a cynical hipster d*uchebag, or some elitist hippie f*ck. That was a fun ass show.
I love this comment! Anyway, I am a combo of a cynical hipster d*uchebag, or some elitist hippie f*ck and I think Bruce is the arguably the best performer in rock and roll.
My favorite moment was when the kid in front of me, who had never seen Bruce but was told by his Dad to check him out said, "This is like freakin church! I can't believe how good he is" and was flipping out the whole show.
Anyone here...Vandy?...who can link me to any of the Springsteen boards/forums? We lost something during his set Saturday night and I'd like to post on some of those boards. Thanks!

I loved how he kept coming out into the crowd. Sure it's gimmicky and and easy way to rile the crowd, but it's still so rare for a main stage act and unprecedented for a headliner (correct me if I'm wrong). That pleased me.

Yeah, that's one of my favorite parts of a Springsteen show. I love how engaged he is with the audience whether it is letting us strum the guitar during Born to Run, taking requests, letting kids sing, giving away picks and harmonicas... whatever. I realize how people sitting in the back can see it as gimmicky, but when you are up close you just really feel a part of the show. From what I can tell from YouTube, he has always been kind of into doing these things, but it seems that it really picked up during the Born in the USA tour when he suddenly jumped from playing smaller venues to 20,000 plus a night. Also as he has gotten older, he has resulted to these things more often to try and make up for his and more noticeably, the rest of the band's, decline in energy. Clarence just can't interact with Bruce like he used to and for the most part it is Bruce that has to do all the "performing." I also think that his audiences aren't as tolerant of new/different things on the whole. He is old enough that a large majority of people come to hear the nostalgic hits, he plays big enough venues that people just can't connect with the band like you can in theaters, and with the technological revolution people are no longer captive audiences when they go to shows (I can't stand people who text throughout a concert)!! I can go to a U2 show or Coldplay or whoever and enjoy all the lights and pyro and videos and other trappings of major acts, but I love the fact that Bruce for the most part has no interest in these types of things.

I just wanted to agree with you vandy. I think anytime people call an act such as Springsteen gimmicky they are just looking at ways to nitpick and be negative. I didn't really know much about Bruce except the hits but I went into the show with an open mind and I loved it. The intensity got kicked up a notch once me and my friend moved up into the actual fans. He's obviously not one of my favorite musicians but he put on a great show and blew me away. I wish I could thank the man and tell him how much he impressed me. I can't really describe it but whether I knew the song or not I felt like I was apart of the show.

I heard from multiple folks that his set was fantastic. We were waiting at the rail for NIN at this point. Off topic but talk about a gimmick... Of Montreal was the definition of gimmick. Props to Bruce for going this long and still running around like a madman and putting on a damn fine show. Not a huge fan, but he definitely has my respect.
Just checked out the handwritten setlist on brucespringsteen.net - looks like Prove it All Night and Because The Night were both setlisted but not played, which really sucks. Prove it was just skipped, and the requests replaced Because The Night.
Oh well...still a great show, even if it was a little heavy on BITUSA stuff
Thanks for the heads up - that Bruce show on Fuse was the Live in New York City DVD from 2000, but very cool nonetheless...more of the setlist I was hoping for at Bonnaroo (Prove It All Night, Backstreets, Jungleland, etc)
