bruce's performance at half time is exactly why i am still clinging to the hope that he will not be there (as slim a chance as that is) he was absolutely awful....he pretty much made a fool of himself and a mockery of his music

i didn't think the show what THAT bad....sheesh! and having bruce on the farm would not keep me away in the SLIGHTEST!! if he headlines friday, i'll skip to rest up for latenight. if he closes sunday, i'll be hanging out with everyone else just relaxing after a long weekend of mind-blowing awesomeness

So because he was having fun and sliding around people thought it sucked? you could understand word for word what he was saying, he had a perma-grin and his band was awesome.. how would that keep some of you to coming to the best festival in America???
Ya there was some gimmicky stuff on his performance. He's trying to keep the interest of 100 million+people, not to mention 80,000 in attendance, who's only connection is they all like football. His target audience was ages 1-100, male, female, every race ethnicity, whatever.
Playing (At roo) in front of 80,000 open-mineded (for the most part) music fans, I'm sure they will focus more on the music.
This is the only live Bruce experiece I have, but I'm m ore excited after it, than I was before it. I was very impressed with Bruce's voice- sounds just liket the albums recorded 25 years ago. During the first song, i actually checked his lips to make sure he wasn't lip-synching. And his bad is uber-talented. Little Steven and Nils Lofgren on guitar is sollllid.

well i was watching it with an open mind( since ive come to accept that he will most likely be on the farm) and i was hopin that maybe he would swing me a little bit so maybe i would be a little less dissapointed with him being there. and when i watched it he started out by yelling like an idiot ...then when he made it to the music i just didnt enjoy it... it was sad.... but im glad all the people who like his music get to see him...i just didnt want to see him... and i probably wont...ill just get some r and r and maybe get a bit drunk b4 the latenight sets so really its ok either way

I thought he sounded great and he can really get a crowd going. I am defiantly looking forward to seeing him. He may not be the best singer but the man can write the hell out of some music.

you say you watch with an open mind yet you judge his whole act based on one 12 minute performance?
also how was his yelling in the beginning "like an idiot"?
i can accept it when you say "when he got to the music i just didn't enjoy it" because that's your opinion no his music. but to say it's sad that others want to see him and that he will suck at bonnaroo is silly.

Don't think they were saying it was sad that others want to see him. Believe they were saying the performance was sad. Actually said they were glad that the fans of bruce were going to get to see him. I could be mistaken but thats how I took it. Have another read...........But that being said. I didn't enjoy the performance but thats my opinion. Others loved it appartently and thats cool. Bruce headlining is cool in my book because I don't go for the headliners for the most party anyway. They usually give me a chance to rest up for late night. See ya at Roo 09!!!!
Ok, in my opinion, Springsteen= overrated, majorly. As a general rule, if they play the super bowl, I dont want to see them at Roo. I put him in the same category as Aerosmith and other mainsteam acts that try to appeal to the masses, but don't make music that really connects with people. I hope the other acts make up for it.
Honestly how much stock can you really take in a Superbowl Halftime performance?? If I had never seen Tom Petty until last year's Superbowl, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have knocked my socks off.

So you have a problem with acts that make popular music because it doesn't really connect with people?

Recent Superbowl acts, Rolling Stones, Prince, Tom Petty. That would make for a realllllly bad festival. Nobody would want to see that. There certainly wouldn't be any talent there, anyways..
edit:thanks itrain. I beat you to it, but i missed Sir Paul

I know many people who want to see acts who've played the SuperBowl at Roo.
Prince The Rolling Stones Tom Petty Paul McCartney
that's just the last few years. 3 out of 4 have been on many wishlists for ROo on this forum. one of them headlined recently. I don't get how you can say these artists don't care about the music they make/connecting with the fans
I love how instead of the person stating they simply dont like bruce they have to become all pompous about it and insult him, yet they cant provide any logic or reasoning to back it up.
It's fine that you dont like the music but dont make assumptions and says he makes music just to appeal to the masses.
With that being said, well done everyone. Cant wait to see Bruce!!!!
In full disclosure, I am a total Kool-Aid drinker when it comes to Bruce and the band.
The Super Bowl performance was at the same time exactly like a normal Bruce concert and completely different from a normal Bruce concert. In that show, you had goofy Bruce who is there to completely entertain and can be in a stadium of 60,000 plus fans and be having far more fun then everybody else. He can be cheesy and gimicky, and that is all good b/c at its core rock and roll, and music in general, is supposed to be about having fun. The amount of energy he displayed is typical... his being out of breath at times was definitely not.
However, the Super Bowl performance was also completely different from any Bruce concert that I have ever been to. He never has pyrotechnics, ever. His stage show consists of lights that go on and off and change colors sometimes... that's about it. There will be no gospel choir, and probably no horn section (unfortunately). However, the fact that he brought them along not only added to the performance in my opinion, but also allowed him to include those musicians that have played an important role in his career (or the inauguration in the case of the choir). Also, there is no way to fully show the talent of the E Street Band with a 12 minute performance. Nils Lofgren couldn't have his one song to show off his guitar playing and there was no song (like Jungleland, Racing in the Street, Backstreets, etc.) in which Roy Bittan could really display his enormous talents on the piano.
Finally, the one thing that was really missing from the show was the spontaneity that the band really embraced at the end of last tour, but that has always been a major factor in his shows. I love to see Bruce point out a sign and the band just rip into that song, or when he suddenly decides to change the setlist, and he runs around the stage telling the others what song. The band almost never misses a beat and makes almost seamless transitions on the fly.
On the last tour he played something like 160 different songs over 100 shows. I went to three shows. The first one was in April and they played for about 2:20. The next one was in July and they played for 3:15 and played 15 different songs that I hadn't heard at the first show. The third show was at the end of August and they played for a little under 3 hours and played 9 songs that I hadn't heard at either of the two previous shows. That's what keeps people coming back for more!!
I'm not saying it will change anyone's life, but how taxing can it be to stand in the back and watch a legend perform for three hours?

Hmmmmmm, I think some of the Bruce fans have been equally pompous & in some cases downright rude calling non-Bruce fans "unamerican" - to each his own, love the ones you love & stop taking it so personally if someone doesn't love Bruce as much as you do
Well besides Clarence obviously, I seriously doubt it. It is hard enough for Bruce to get Max away from Conan, I doubt NBC would allow a couple of the other members to go as well.
However, I would love to see the horns on tour. I was way too young for the Tunnel of Love tour, but I hear it was great.
