Ha! I'm not even a huge Springsteen fan, but I don't understand the need for multiple posts in a thread about an artist if you don't like that artist. Move it along!
Not sure how often he'll play it this tour, but I'm betting it will make an appearance at 'Roo.It was one of the most often played songs at Memorials for 9/11 victims, many of whom were Bruce fans.I've already got it written into my will to have it played at my funeral...
So I guess after all the speculation and doubts it shows that I was being fully honest and only had the best intentions to my fellow roosters that they should know what I knew from my source. Also my source said Bruce is sunday so I don't doubt it.
This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo
For those who want a little tutorial on Springsteen, here is what you should do. First, CD's like the Essential Bruce are great for the bare bones of Springsteen, but a lot of songs not on there will appear in his concerts. This list is mostly for preparation of Bruce Live, but also for just general Bruce knowledge
1. Familiarize yourself with his album Born to Run
It isnt my favorite album, but it is by far his best in my opinion (if you know what i mean). Born to Run (the song) will def make an appearance, cuz he plays it everywhere. Thunder Road is one of the best written songs you will ever see, Jungleland is an epic that seems like it fit the mood. OTher songs from the album are Night, Backstreets (my favorite song), Tenth Avenue Freeze Out (Song that opened the super bowl halftime show), She's the One, and Meeting Across the River.
2. Go back to Bruce's roots with the first two albums in Greetings from Asbury Park and The Wild, the Innocent, and The E Street Shuffle (My favorite Album).
Rosalita is probably the standout for most Bruce fans among these two albums. Its just so much fun. Then there's Bruce's Jam song, Kitty's Back. Here is an amazing version from 1975 and the Hammersmith show that you should check out. Its 17 minutes long, and then here is a more recent one from 2002 on Conan, which is around 10 minutes long. Part I and II for the 75 version first
Other big songs from these two are Growin up, Blinded by the Light (the Original), Spirit in the Night, Incident on 57th Street (another big fan favorite), Sandy, and the E Street Shuffle. New York City Serenade is amazing and probably one of the only Bruce songs that is much better in studio.
3. Darkness on the Edge of Town
Badlands, Badlands, Badlands. Gotta know Badlands, as well as The Promised Land. You will see the title track appear every so often in a show, as well as Racing in the Street, Candy's Room, Streets of Fire, and Prove it all Night.
4. Live 1975/85
Live Record spanning the concerts from Born to Run to Born in the USA
5. Then Id actually turn more recent with Magic.
I think his last album before WOrking on a A Dream, was his best in years. Radio Nowhere, Gypsy Biker, Last to Die, Your Own Worst Enemy, Devil's Arcade, Long Walk Home, are all great songs and more.
Born in the USA songs rarely make more than 1 or 2 appearances in his shows, even though its his biggest album. Usually its No Surrender and possibly Dancing in the Dark.
6. The River/The Rising
Big Big Album in size with some real good songs on there, and some frequent concert songs including OUt in the Street, Cadillac Ranch, Jackson Cage, I'm a Rocker, The River, Hungry Heart, Sherry Darling, and Ramrod. The Rising is big for the title track and the songs lonesome Day, Mary's Place, and Waiting on a Sunny Day
7. Nebraska is one of his finest albums, but its an acoustic album, so unless its Atlantic City, or his kickass version of Reason to Believe, these other songs arent usually in the concerts.
8. Last But Certainly Not Least! (No, not The Big Man), Bootlegs/Live Stuff
The best that I've heard are the Passaic show from 1978, which is all over youtube, The Fox Theater in Atlanta from 1978, and others from that year. The Hammersmith show, which you can find on youtube and its a DVD from 75 is amazing. If you want more recent, Id recommend Live in NYC (Released CD), The Madison Square Garden shows for the Magic Tour, as well as St. Louis or Kansas City (not sure which one), Philly October 6th, Harleyfest in Milwaukee, or any Meadowlands show. You cant go wrong with Philly/NJ/NY.
There are some good songs off Tunnel of Love, but you can largely skip that, as well as Lucky Town and Human Touch. Ghost of Tom Joad has one or two good songs, and the CD Tracks, which is unreleased stuff has some real gems there. Born in the USA is his big selling album, but any Bruce fan will tell you that it isnt his best and is actually pretty far down on the list. In fact, he rarely plays the song Born in the USA at all. Dont forget his new CD, WOrking on A Dream which he will try to pump up.
Well that is my long but still small Springsteen tutorial. Ive never been to Bonnaroo, though one of my good friend's has, and I'm giving it some consideration. Enjoy THe Boss.
Here's is the Conan performance. I really didn't get it the first time I saw it, but now I can't get enough of it. I don't think I've ever seen a band take over a late night show like he did this time. Conan was almost an afterthought for the last 15 minutes of the show.
Winterland is certainly an amazing boot. I think for me with Passaic, its the fact that there is video of the show, and it has the best Prove it all night Ive ever heard.
madbadger - great post i'm loving the jungleland torrent site, i am DL the giants stadium shows i went to this summer, can't wait to hear them - thanks!

The video is absolutely fantastic!! I really agree that seeing him perform really enhances the experience of listening to a boot. Hence, the fact that I have seen Passaic makes it easier to "see" Winterland although no video exists. After numerous listens of both, I think Winterland wins out for me.
Why can't we get the entire Backstreets from Passaic on YouTube? That and the transition into Rosie is what I show people to show why I love Bruce (although I wasn't alive to see it)!!
i just found out one of our attorneys on staff actually served Bruce Springsteen his divorce papers back in the '80s. He said the boss was very a friendly and laid back guy that reeked of booze and cigarettes! LOL

.
I think this is a great video. But the White Stripes on Conan owns anything anyone's ever done on a late night show. (Conan put them on Monday-Friday) The slide solo on Conan's during Let's Build a Home inspired me to buy my first Stripes CD.

Gotta agree with the sentiment about Passaic '78 and Winterland. Other than taking someone to see him live to convert them, these 2 bootlegs are probably the best for just feeling the sheer power of Bruce and the band.
The last 2 shows of the Rising tour(Shea Stadium 10/3-10/4/03) and the last Giants Stadium show from last summer are also really good boots to show how the band sounds currently.
i think odds are better of David Byrne being onstage with Phish... although I could see Trey joining the Boss.
is Bruce the type to special guest on someone else's stage or to have special guests on his own stage? can any hardcore fans answer that?
He definitely has guests on his stage all the time. Emmylou Harris, Marah, Bon Jovi, Bono/The Edge, John Fogerty and Eddie Vedder (now there's some songs. Eddie/Bruce&ESB from Meadowlands in 2004)
I've also seen him come on stage with U2 in Philly (tore the house down) and know that he's guested with plenty of others.
A little blog from Bruce, complete with pictures, on his official site about performing at the Super Bowl and what it was like. The man certainly can tell a good story!!

Last year in Orlando he had Roger Mcquinn join him for a couple Byrds' songs.

Last year in Orlando he had Roger Mcquinn join him for a couple Byrds' songs.
It was released on itunes and included duets with Morrell (GOTJ), Escovedo (Always a Friend) McGuinn (Turn Turn Turn),as well as Danny's last performance ("Sandy" from Indy).A couple of notable guestings not yet mentioned were dropping in to duet with Melissa Ethridge for Thunder Road on her Unplugged special, and Dylan on the final night of the Rising tour at Shea.
Bruce is by far my all time favorite artist. I could go on and on about him and I can understand why some people dont like him. But, when it comes to live shows he is so choice. I've been lucky to see him live twice and will have another one under my belt b y the time roo runs around. I've seen him on his acoustic tour in 05 and his last arena tour last year. My upcoming tickets are the first time i've ever got general admission though. Needless to say, i'm pretty stoked about that.
Anyway, Seeing bruce live will most likely change your opinion on him if it is negative. I went with my GF at the time to the arena tour, and she didnt know much springsteen but his live version of atlantic city made her cry fo real.
He routinely changes up his songs and so many of them that arent as good in studio are amazing live (look up the version of real world from his 05 acoustic tour. I know for sure he played it in grand prarie, on his worst album and not a standout at all but its amazing live with him on the piano). He takes requests, and changes up his setlist on stage alot and he makes his concert flow so well. He gets a vibe of the audience and chooses a song he knows theyll go off for that he might not have chosen from the onset.
I'm excited to see his setlist for the roo. Givin the type of audience it is, I could possibly see him doing some earlier stuff like incident, e street shuffle, lost in the flood (i'd lose it), kittys back and MAYBE MAYBE MAAAAAYBE Thundercrack. I'd love to see him do jungleland on the piano alone though.
Seriously, bruce has so many good albums. He takes chances with his music (the river followed by nebraska?! wtf. Or born in the usa followed by tunnel of love? poop dont make sense)
Also, expect some cameos from other roo artists when bruce plays. He invited tom morello, arcade fire, u2, alejandro escavido and tons others to jam with him on his last few tours.
Plus, the gaslight anthem is his #1 on myspace. You know hes down with good poop then
Garth Algar: Do you ever get the feeling Benjamin's just using us?
Wayne Campbell: Good call. It's like he wants us to be liked by everyone. I mean Led Zeppelin didn't write tunes everybody liked. They left that to the Bee Gees.
This was posted on Backstreets, and I thought some folks might find it helpful...
For 2009 North American Arena Shows:
1. What does General Admission mean? It means you have a ticket for the arena floor. There are no seats. All general admission tickets are for standing-room only on the floor.
2. What is "the pit?" In every arena, the floor is divided into two sections. There is a barrier approximately one-fourth of the way back on the floor. The area between the stage and the barrier is known as "the pit."
3. How do I get into "the pit?" Although there has been no official word yet from Bruce or his touring staff, it seems likely that the policy used on the 2007-08 Magic Tour will remain the same:
a.) Numbered wristbands are handed out at the venue from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on the day of the show. You must have a GA ticket to get a wristband. b.) At approximately 5:15 PM, the number of spaces in "the pit" that night are announced, and a number is drawn randomly to be the first person in the line. c.) The "winners" (typically the next 200-500 numbers) are let into the arena first and get to go in "the pit." d.) The line then continues for the "non-winners" to get the rest of the spots on the arena floor.
4. What if I can't make it to the venue in time for the lottery? You are not required to participate in the lottery.
If you do not participate, you will forego your opportunity to get into "the pit." You'll be somewhere else on the arena floor, depending on what spots are available when you arrive at the arena.
5. If I don't win the lottery for a spot in the pit, do I need to stay in line and wait to go in to the building? No. You could leave and come back anytime before the show. You would only stay if you wanted to try to get one of the better spots behind "the pit."
5a. If I do win a lottery spot, do I need to stay in line and wait to go in to the building? Probably. There have been some circumstances of lottery winners being allowed to come back and get a spot at the back of the pit. Other times, you've needed to stay and go right in. Best bet is to ask when getting your lottery wristband.
6. How many people get into "the pit" each night? It depends on many factors: How many people the fire marshal will allow for that venue; how many spots are held for friends of the band; etc. It has been as low as 200 and as high as 500 (and perhaps even more on some limited occasions). Most were in the 350-450 range.
7. How many people show up for the lottery? The number is different for every show.
8. What if the cutoff for the lottery is #498, but my wife/husband/friend has #499? Does one of us get in but the other doesn't? If you are with a group of people (ie. 2 or 3 or 4 people), you all need to get their wristbands at the same time. If your group of 2 or 3 or 4 has consecutively-numbered wristbands, they won't split you up. If you have #234, your wife has #502 and your brother has #687, you're outta luck.
9. I have two GA tickets because my friend couldn't come. Can I get two different wristbands for the lottery? The policy has always been one wristband per person.
10. Can I give my GA wristband to someone else? No. Your wristband is non-transferable.
11. My General Admission ticket has a row and seat number on it. What does that mean? It's a Ticketmaster/venue tracking number. Your GA ticket is for the floor, standing room only. There are no rows or seats.
12. What time do doors open? Depends on the venue. Usually the GA ticket holders (starting with the winners of the "pit" lottery are let in at approximately 5:55 PM, and the rest of the ticket holders are allowed it starting at 6:00 PM.
13. What time does the show start? Usually between 8:15 and 8:30 PM.
14. I bought a GA ticket, but I have since broken my leg/my wife has gotten pregnant and we can't stand. What do we do? Call the venue's Accessible Seating office (or equivalent). They should be able to make alternate arrangements. Be prepared to show a medical need.
15. What about the Hershey, PA show? If you have a General Admission ticket, you are going to be in the large standing room area closest to the stage on the field, regardless of any lottery system.
There will be a barrier within that larger area that creates a smaller "pit" closest to the stage. Expect a lottery system for those spots in much the same fashion as described above.
Plus, the gaslight anthem is his #1 on myspace. You know hes down with good poop then
YES, The Gaslight Anthem is great!! I am kind of jealous of the Londoners who get Gaslight, DMB, and Bruce on a bill. Although, I don't think that we are being shafted too much
