Was listening to Nebraska walking to class earlier last week and remembered how pumped I was for this show.
I'm seeing 2 shows in May,and I'm still especially excited about 'Roo.Could be the fact that central Tenn is a far shorter drive from Bloomington (In) than Minneapolis is.The more I think about it,the more crazy it is for me to drive to Minnie for GA on Monday, and on to Chicago for Tues night.Oh well, you only live once...
The thing about 'Roo is the oppty to see so many Bruce virgins in one setting. There are always first timers in the Pit,people who get caught up in the excitement of wanting to experience the excitement of seeing their inaugural ESB show from the Pit.
It's fun to sort of monitor their reactions, and how easily they get caught up in the whole Pit experience.Especially when they are close enough for some personal interaction with Bruce.
Bruce is especially receptive to young/new fans, and it's kind of cool to see younger people in the Pit going crazy.Probably won't be a lot of "families" at 'Roo,but the generational bridging of fans should still be fairly evident.
I'm curious to see if some of the crowd is less receptive initially, how that reaction will evolve over the course of a 3 hr show.I think sometimes Bruce works extra hard,if he senses the crowd isn't quite there,so I'll be interested in seeing if the majority of the crowd is swayed by the experience.
That was sort of what happened at the Harley Fest, which was not strictly speaking a typical Bruce crowd. It ended up being the longest show of the Magic tour, with a setlist that was pretty amazing.I'm hoping for a similar experience at 'Roo,and curious to see how it will all shake out.
Anybody else a fan of The Promise? He plays it occasionally, but I've never been lucky enough to catch it live.I'm not expecting it at 'Roo,but you gotta admit most people at 'Roo can probably relate to "sleeping in the backseat of a borrowed car"...

I'm a Bruce and ESB virgin, so I'm especially pumped. I don't think he'll have any trouble at all winning the crowd over. Metallica definitely had their work cut out for them and they still did pretty well. Bruce fits Bonnaroo about 10x better than they did, IMO.

thats crazy about Glastonbury selling out without a lineup
I just remembered my psych teacher in high school who was a younger guy had said he had done some of the Phish tours, i dont know how many shows but... then he asked if we liked Bruce because he listens to him "religiously" lol i think its funny that they are both at the fest this year, and it would be crazy to hang out with a teacher from high school at Bonnaroo haha

Check this out... in honor of Bruce's new album, the Bruce camp got a bunch of great artists (Against Me, Avett Brothers, Ted Leo, Nicole Atkins) to talk about how Bruce inspired them and record a song.
I'm not the biggest fan of bruce, but I got it in a newsletter from the Avetts... and right when I saw Against Me! on there too, I knew it was too good to be true. If my two favorite bands were inspired by Bruce, then damn, I have to go see him play live.
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey

I'm not the biggest Bruce fan but I definitely like a lot of his work. After hearing about the ticket fiasco with his tour, I figured roo would be a perfect way to see the E Street Band as well as dozens of other artists i've been hoping to see.
My mom always talks about how great Bruce is and she caught a show at the Spectrum in the 70s or 80s just a few rows from the stage, which must've been an awesome experience to see them in their prime. I'm still psyched though, Stevie! Max Weinberg! The BOSS! Hahaha ok, i'm just ranting now cause i'm psyched for 'roo. Carry on.

Your mom can probably relate to this video, since it's a classic version of Rosie circa about'78 I believe.I didn't see my first show till '85,but the 4 or 5 hr shows were legendary long before then.
Amazing how young they are here, especially Clarence resplendent in his orange suit. And Max looks like a kid atop the drum riser, only a few years removed from answering a want ad Bruce placed for a drummer. From the very start,it was obvious how much they enjoyed being on stage, and among the fans...

Ask her if she ever caught the Boss at the Tower Theater in Philly.

Haha..."because then I might be your father." Was the follow up sentence that popped in my head for some reason.
I have a hard time believing that Bruce would play Sat and Phish would split Friday and Sunday. If Phish is playing 2 nights they are the main headliner for the weekend and probably get the Saturday slot. As far Bruce goes I would think he would get the Friday slot since usually a jam band closes out Sunday.

In order to rejuvenate this thread, I thought I might start posting some live videos that might convert those who only know Springsteen through his songs that get played on the radio. I forgot where I found this clip of Springsteen "Prove It All Night" but it's absolutely ridiculous. The song is a slow burn but it eventually builds up to a fever pitch. Bruce is a monster on guitar, and as always so is the E-Street Band. If this doesn't make you want to check out Springsteen at Roo I don't know what will. The sound isn't perfect but the song is so good it doesn't matter. Look for a young Max Weinberg and Clarence. The clip itself is from the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ, 9-19-1978.
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
Prove It All Night is probably the best, but check out Candy's Room, Because the Night, and Not Fade Away into She's the One for other ones that rock pretty hard.

That's a damn good one. Bruce doesn't usually show off the chops like that, but every once in awhile he'll bust out an amazing solo. And Max keeps time better than an atomic clock.
I was listening to E-Street Radio on XM this morning and The Hold Steady were the guest DJ's. Craig Finn was talking about how he took his girlfriend, who is 29 and a former raver, to her first Bruce show and her quote afterward was, "It was like my first rave, I was so depressed it was over." I thought that was funny and so true. I've brought lots and lots of people to their first Bruce/E-Street show and they almost always fall into 2 groups afterward.
1.) Holy poop that was amazing when are we going back because I need to go on that ride again.
2.) That was great but I'm not obsessed.
I've never heard anyone express anything but amazement, even if they didn't become a huge fan afterward.
Also, I'm at work now, so I can't look up youtube here, but when I get home (or if someone else can do it) we should post the Because the Night from Shea Stadium 10/3 or 10/4/03. Either one is great and shows how the band 25 years after Passaic still has amazing chops.

I caught this broadcast yesterday when I got off work...did they follow it by playing Dancing in the Dark?

Yeah, you heard exactly what I did. I just caught a replay of it from whenever they played it first. My artist select on my radio beeped for The Hold Steady this morning when I got in my truck .
Seeing as them and Bruce are 2 of my favorite bands, I was pleasantly surprised to hear them doing the guest DJ thing on E-Street.

Great videos guys, yea that Passaic show must have been amazing to be at.
Another one of my favorite Springsteen songs, "Lost In The Flood" is another one of those amazing songs that showcases how good of story teller Springsteen is. This particular version from the Bruce Springsteen Live in New York Dvd gives me goosebumbs every time when he reaches the breaking point of the song "And now the whiz-bang gang from uptown, they're shootin' up the street."
This video is a lot more recent than the other one I posted and shows that even though he's gotten older, he's only gotten better.

Dancing in the Dark isnt exactly my fav song by Bruce but I always think how awesome would it be to sing this with tens of thousands of other people at Roo. It gave me chills

I caught that yesterday as well.Finn talked about listening to Bruce from about the age of 6,and how songs like Jungleland influenced his own songwriting.
Did anybody catch Jeff Foxworthy last week doing his guest DJ stint?Turns out he is a huge fan,and got to sit on the side of the stage and meet Bruce after the Atlanta Rising show.
Didn't catch the entire hour, but he played Jungleland as his closer, and related a story about going out and buying Darkness the day it was released.Said he rushed out on his lunch hour, and then spent the afternoon blasting it from his sportscar...
Btw, can anybody give me any pointers on embedding a youtube? I managed to do it in another thread, but haven't had much luck in this one...
