Doesn't sound great, but they are the new songs. Looks like the staging is a lot fancier than anything Bruce has done in the past (not that that takes much)

Some notes from the show. The new songs are kinda awful right now. The pacing was very off, but that's expected at the first show. The difference from night 1 rehearsal to night 2 on magic was night and day. So I'm hoping tonight is better.
Jay Weinberg played from Good Eye thru Mary's Place and then Born To Run and American Land and all I can say is HOLY POOP. That mf-er can PLAY. Anyone who sees him will not be disappointed at all and he brought some crazy energy to that stage. Bruce even commented, "He's only 18!!" Damn. Just ridiculous. He beat the crap out of those drums.
Curtis King and Colleen (?) Mizell from the Sessions Band are backup singers for the tour.
The Woody Guthrie song and Stephen Foster song need to go. Bruce needs to remember that he's more Mustang Sally than I Ain't Got No Home. Especially live.
The show was long for a rehearsal. Clocked in at about 2 hours and 45 minutes. I'd say he doesn't have the basic flow down yet and the pace was choppy as songs didn't flow into each other very well yet. (Other than the classics played by Jay last night). This Life into Long Walk Home was especially awful. And Long Walk Home is one of my favorite songs, but the beginning was so off that it kinda threw the whole thing off. Although Stevie was doing his thing at the end singing and that was really good.
I'll add some more thoughts after I see them again tonight.
Well, he's back!! The atmosphere and the intensity were night and day from night 1 to night 2. Last night was a holy poop that was so good I want to fly to California just so I can have this feeling again show.
The new songs were tight and well placed. Kingdom of Days was just powerful in the way that Long Walk Home was last tour. Just a full wall of sound.
And add in my HOLYF*CKBALLS HE'S PLAYING SEEDS moment, (First time since '88 and the guitar work on that was awesome.) and you have a hell of a show.
One other note, the version of Tom Joad is fully electric rocked out. I can't wait until they get the solos down on that more and more. If you need a reference point, it's basically the same way they re-did Youngstown. Charles on accordion and keyboard, pounding drums and kickass solos from Nils and Bruce at the end.
I'll finish it up with a quote from Backstreets about last night "-- I mean, that was a Springsteen[/b] show."
Perfectly described.
Setlist: Badlands Outlaw Pete My Lucky Day No Surrender Out in the Street Working on a Dream Seeds Johnny 99 The Ghost of Tom Joad Good Eye Darlington County Waitin' on a Sunny Day The Promised Land The Wrestler Kingdom of Days Lonesome Day (with Jay Weinberg) Radio Nowhere (w/ J.W.) Born to Run (w/ J.W.) * * * Hard Times Dancing in the Dark Tenth Avenue Freeze-out Land of Hope and Dreams American Land

Glad to hear it was as good as it looked on paper! I really hope a boot shows up sometime soon. As for GOTJ, are they playing it in much the same way as it was played w/ Morello last year in LA? Is Nils taking the end solo?

Yeah that was essentially it, only it seemed to have a little more...I guess atmosphere would be the best word for it. The accordian and violin were more prominent and there was echo on his singing. It honestly made me instantly think of the exact same sound as Youngstown on LINYC. To the best of my recollection Nils and Bruce both played at the end but Nils was the more "dominant" one in the playing if you get that.
Looks like we'll have Max at Bonnaroo - will likely be Max's first show back with the band after a missing a few European shows:
"Springsteen’s “Secret Weapon”: How Jay Weinberg Scored a Spot in the E Street Band
3/27/09, 3:57 pm EST
Last December E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg was driving his 18-year-old son Jay to school in Hoboken, New Jersey, when Bruce Springsteen called. “He wanted to talk to Jay,” says Max. “He said to him, ‘Jay, this is Bruce. You may have heard I have a band. In that band I have the world’s greatest drummer, who has a scheduling conflict. He gave me your name and number and suggested that I call you to see if you’d be interested in playing with me and the E Street Band.’ ” Jay accepted.
Up until four years ago Jay had never played the drums. “When he was 14, on his own and without any direction from me, he took one of my old drum sets and set it up in the attic of a barn we have and essentially taught himself,” says Max. “Teaching him myself would have been like teaching your kid to drive. That can be a nightmare. At Jay’s suggestion, I backed off on showing him anything.” Within a year Jay had guested onstage with the Used, and later the Bouncing Souls. “Every one of those appearances had been really daunting,” says Jay. “It’s like my experience as a hockey goalie. I find it cool to be under that sort of pressure. You can make or break this entire thing.” He now plays in the punk group the Reveling.
Last August Jay sat in with Springsteen and the E Street Band at Giants Stadium for “Born To Run” — where he got a huge response from the capacity crowd. A few months later it became clear Max would have to miss some gigs on Springsteen’s next tour of Europe since the dates coincided with the premiere of The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien, where Max serves as the bandleader. “There were a few other people we could have gone to, but we knew Jay was our secret weapon,” says Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau. “He’s just a remarkable person. It’s in the genes.”
As of now, Jay will only be needed for the six or seven shows of the European tour. “Conan has done so much to make it possible for Max to do both jobs,” says Landau. “Max has worked things out so that he’s going be able to be there for Conan, and he’s gonna be there for us most of the time.” To prepare for the shows, Jay has been rehearsing extensively with the E Street Band. He sat in for ten songs during the band’s public rehearsal concerts in Asbury Park this week. “I watched them on tour since I was nine and I watched night after night of the Magic tour,” he says pointing to his head. “All the songs from that tour are up here.” Max couldn’t be prouder. “This is quite a unique moment in rock history,” he says. “The torch has been passed to a new generation, so to speak. Temporarily, I might add. Because I’m not giving up my job yet.”"

I figured that would be the case. I am glad that I will have Max at both shows I'll be going to, but I think it would be fun to see Jay especially after listening to the boot of the first show. Hopefully some good videos will surface from Europe.

My completely speculative thoughts are that they'll let him play a couple of songs at Bonnaroo.

Smart move Jay.
I mean, for him, Bruce is just one of his Dad's friends. But what if this happened to one of us? I would die.

Here is The Wrestler,in what was likely a highlight of the night. Hopefully this is a permanent fixture,so everyone gets a chance to see this at any show they attend...
Hard to believe this song didn't win an Oscar, much less even receive a nomination.I will say that Bruce seems to be a lot more fond of American Land than I am.Maybe he likes the forum it provides for introducing "The Heart Pounding, Earth Quaking, Bootie Shaking,History Making,LEGENDARY E STREET BAND!!

Since you're the first person who has attended a "Dream Tour" show to post here,I wanted to post a vid from the show for you. There aren't a lot of the Tulsa show vids up yet,but I did find "I'm on Fire"which will likely trigger some memories.Especially if you were in The Pit,and can find yourself on the HD...
Gotta imagine Youngstown into Fire is a powerful segue. At the Nashville show last Aug I was elbows on stage and he brought the little girl standing next to me up on stage and sang IOF to her.Looks like there were some nice signs last night,IIRC Rosie came off a sign request. Thanks for posting...
Is anyone planning on bringing signs to the Roo show? I'm considering it, waiting to see if it would be proper. If so, I will be there with a Lost in The Flood sign. Also, anyone planning to camp for this one? I'm probably going to be pretty tired after Phish late night so I have a feeling I'll be camping from 3PM on at the What Stage for what looks like Mule into Wilco into Bruce.

Anyone else bringing a sign or camping for Bruce?
I am only coming for Bruce,so I'll definitely be camped as close to the stage as I can be,from Fri afternoon or so on.I have relatives North of Nashville, and plan on leaving their house sometime Fri morning and then settling in to wait for Bruce.I've camped out in Dec in Indy before for the Rising Tour,so this should be a breeze...
There is a group at BTX and GreasyLake that has a flag and are hosting an after show party.I'm thinking some of those folks are going to be getting in line early,so we should be able to get a good group of camping buddies,imo...
I'm thinking there will be plenty of signs at 'Roo,even if we have to smuggle them in.The sign part of the Magic Tour really took off during the Euro Stadium leg last Spring, and 'Roo falls smack dab in the middle of that part of the Tour.Looked like plenty of signs in Tulsa last night too...

Just to give you some tips since I waited for front row for Pearl Jam last year. They close the mainstage each night after all the shows are done and dont open them up until about an hour before the first show starts on the mainstage, probably around 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon. You can show up to the mainstage gate and wait til they open, thats what I did for Pearl Jam last year. Once the main gates open you run as quickly as you can to line up off to the side of the pit. Just make sure that you designate a line for Bruce, since there will most likely be people lining up to get into the pit for other bands. They clear the pit after every show, so you will just wait off to the side until they start letting people into the pit before Bruce starts. In my experience getting front row at What Stage at Bonnaroo was easier then getting front row for any other concert ive ever been too. Got to hang out with cool people while sitting off to the side of the stage in the shade. No having to stand or bake in the hot sun all day. Only problem was stupid people trying to cut in line after you have been waiting all day but its really not that bad aslong as you work together with the people you are waiting with.
Hope all you people have a blast in the pit, definitley looks like a show that would be alot of fun up close but I will probably catch the set from back by the soundboard.
I'm not sure how it will work out with all the signs. I know in the past security has tried to stop all signs and banners, because they block the view of others. Hopefully Springsteen's people have worked this out with Bonnaroo.

And here is the BTX review/narrative of Denver...
APRIL 10, DENVER, CO: MILE HIGH BOSS TIME! Springsteen and the band took the stage to the sounds of "Get Out of Denver" for a long-awaited return to Colorado after the Magic tour passed them by. And Colorado was ready: at the end of the night, Bruce was moved to shout, "Best crowd of the tour so far!"
Brendan Flynn writes: "Tonight, Springsteen and the band blew the doors off the Pepsi Center and left the mile high crowd gasping for more. Bruce has clearly begun to hit his stride on this tour, dusting off no less than four tour premieres for the lucky Denver fans. Bumping 'Outlaw Pete' to slot three for the first time, 'The Ties That Bind' had its first appearance since Antwerp, June 2008. After 'Youngstown,' with Nils spinning like a Whirling Dervish possessed by Jimi Hendrix on a blistering solo, came a poignant 'Tougher Than the Rest,' paring Bruce and Patti center stage.
"Bruce collected signs during 'Darlington County' and had to dig way back for the first request: 'Time to stump the band,' he declared with a grin as he revealed the sign with 'E Street Shuffle' scrawled on it. The band fell into the song with a few early hiccups but pulled it off faithfully. Max nailed the solo during the song's climax with particular gusto. Another sign request for 'Prove It All Night' kept the crowd into the show, and the fourth tour premiere, 'Racing in the Street,' was yet another request with Roy turning in a stirring performance.
"'You're fabulous,' Bruce told the crowd as the encore began, reminiscing, 'We've been coming to Denver for a long time,' and even mentioning 'that rainy night at Red Rocks' in 1981. A bonus 'Glory Days rounded out a six-song encore during which Steve pronounced it was "Mile High Boss Time!" Springsteen worked in a few bars of 'Louie Louie' to close out what was arguably the best show of the tour thus far. Bravo, Bruce!"
Next stop: Goin' back to Cali after a little Easter break, with two shows in L.A. on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

I saw that this morning and thought it was amazing. I can't imagine how awesome his Bonnaroo set will be. I know last year he really some really rare stuff at the Harley Davidson show in Milwaukee so I'm looking at the typical setlists from 2008 and compared them to Harley to get a feel of what we might get.
As far as long shots I'd like to see go:
Lost in the Flood Meeting Across the River Racing in the Street Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street? Incident on 57th Street Wooly Bully
I definately planning on camping for this one. I figure I'll be tired from Phish Late Night so I'll head down a little early and start the day with hopefully Mule into Wilco into Bruce. Maybe I'll see some of you there.
(I plan on trying to get poster board and markers in, in my backpack for signs if possible))
i want to hear lost in the flood so much. i love that song. the live at madison square garden dvd when he plays that is amazing. seriously if you havent seen it just youtube that song from then. i want that song at roo.
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Well it looks like Bruce is going with a dark theme for his tour this year. Darlington County, Ghost of Tom Joad, Badlands, Johnny 99, Because the Night, and Seeds look like they will all be played frequently this tour. I'm happy to see that his shows are not being dominated by songs from his new album. He will definitely throw some audibles Bonnaroo's way and I can't wait.
