I think it's a toss-up as to who would be top billed between Phish and Springsteen. I mean, in the grand scheme of things, Springsteen is bigger. But obviously Phish is huge in their own right, especially with the festy crowd. I could see that going either way.
I agree. As much as I think Phish should have the top billing, that doesn't mean they will. Springsteen is a pretty big name. He sold out a 15(?) night run at the Meadowlands a few years ago.

Thanks for the update on the Boss. I have personally never been a huge fan of Springsteen, but have always felt like I should like the guy. So maybe his being at Roo will be the motivation that I need to go listen to his stuff.
Same here, never been a huge fan and was sorta looking forward to something else. I was told by a couple of people who have seen the boss live that after they saw him they went from Meh to WOW! So maybe this could be that for me..
I will say I am very excited to see Badu! and Portugal. The Man (who BTW all you amazing inforoo people turned me onto!)
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!

Just spreading the info I got from my source I trust completely. I'm extremely excited and think Bonnaroo will bring out something amazing in Bruce and I can totally see some sort of Bruce guest spots, especially with Trey he has said Bruce was his top three major musical influence in the past and has been a fan of his since Trey was a kid. I also wonder who is gonna be pre-headliner before Bruce?

This is great, Bruce has been on my concert Bucket List for a long time so I cant wait to see him. (If this is indeed true, and the OP gives no indication that he is lying.)
Also to those saying they will nap during his set or are not a big fan of Bruce I think you should all give him a shot. I was never really a fan of any of his recorded material but from listening to a few boots and catching a dvd they put out he puts so much passion into his performances that even if your not a huge fan I dont see how you couldnt enjoy his show. Anyways thanks OP for confirming this, Bruce will be high on my list of must sees at Roo this year for sure!

I was thinking Arcade Fire also because of the guest spot Bruce has done in the past with them. Bruce thinks highly of Arcade as does Arcade of Bruce. Once we get the initial annoucement I think we will have a good idea of 4-6 bands that have the potential to be the pre-headliner to Bruce
I would think Phish would be top-billed, but it's really irrelevant. I hope they can find a good spot for The Dead as well.
With or without The Dead, this is my favorite headliner group ever. Glad I got my ticket already.
Oh and those of you who want to hear a specific song, make a sign requesting it. Bruce not only changes setlists every night, he frequently does requests.
If their is indeed a third headliner I would think the most logical candidate would be the dead. Which would be fine with me, I think alot of people would sacrifice two nights of Phish for 1 night of Phish and 1 Night of the Dead.

Wow, this is shaping up to be an epic 'Roo!
To be honest, it's not entirely my favorite lineup, but I still smile to hear this kind of news because I know it's going to make a lot of people on here happy.
I'm still not sure I buy two nights of Phish, though. We shall see, I guess.

Look for me, I'll be the jackass in the pit with the "PLAY FREEBIRD!" sign that's blocking everyone else's view.
Personally, I'm still not sold on the idea of Roo '09 based just on Phish and Bruce. I still want to go, but money's tight at the moment and I'm expecting a Roo trip would set me back a grand or so, accounting for ticket, gas, food, supplies, spending money, et cetera. I'm just not sure if it's in the cards this year.
Fri: Modern Headliner Sat: Bruce(Phish late night) Sun: Phish
I disagree. Although Sunday has always had a jam headliner since 2002, a lot of people have to hit the road early and can't stay for the Sunday night closer. A lot of people would be piiiiisssed if they had to miss Phish's headlining gig. Plus, no other acts have been rumored to headline for a while now, so I don't think we'll get a different headliner on Friday.

Fri: Modern Headliner Sat: Bruce(Phish late night) Sun: Phish
I agree. I think that we will get another headliner and it will be modern and unexpected. Even though the dead are touring I have a feeling it will be someone else.
It seems like The Dead are a no-brainer, but really there has been no substantal rumor about them. the only reason I keep bringing them up is it's 'Roo and they are The Dead and on tour.

well last year we only had rumors of Pearl Jam and Metallica(atleast that ended up being true), we never had the rumors of Jack Johnson.
i mean maybe the third headliner plays sunday instead of friday and the other two are moved up a day. but i think giving Phish a late night main stage act on Sat and having them then headline sunday as well will allow those who cant stay sunday night to see them saturday night. a late night set will be longer then headlining set would be for Phish anyways.

I have a hard time believing that Bruce would play Sat and Phish would split Friday and Sunday. If Phish is playing 2 nights they are the main headliner for the weekend and probably get the Saturday slot. As far Bruce goes I would think he would get the Friday slot since usually a jam band closes out Sunday.
I agree so much that I've said it before. Bruce on Friday, Phish Saturday and Sunday. That's what it is, so get used to it.

i wholeheartedly agree and ive been saying it. it would just seem very un-bonnarooish to not grab the dead while they are on tour.
The only way I could see it being possible is if there were three Phish sets. Friday Headliner, Saturday Late Night, Sunday Headliner...of course, if you're going to do one Phish late night, why not just have a third headliner and have Phish play two What State late nights and then close out Sunday?

I maintain that this is the year The Dead will hit other festivals, since they've really only played Bonnaroo in the past decade. We'll see them at Rothbury perhaps, and one or two others-- maybe ACL or even Lolla? The Dead at Bonnaroo does make sense, but I think it makes a bit more sense that they'd play elsewhere this summer. Superfly has put all their eggs in the Phish basket, with a few left for Bruce (which was easy since he played Outsidelands last year). Other fests will have more resources to lure The Dead to their venues instead.
