Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
The Boss at Roo is fantastic news. I'm shocked at the some of the naysayers, but to each their own, I guess. if you haven't seen him, try to keep an open mind and you will see one of the greatest live acts in the history of rock.
Ehh, blow off the naysayers. There are haters for every headliner from The Dead to Radiohead. In a city of 70-90K there are bound to be a few people with different tastes. I used to try and logically lay out why Band A makes sense as a headliner but there are always a few that think that that the headliners need signed off by them personally.
Not saying that that's how folks in this thread are behaving, just highlighting how futile I find the discussion sometimes.
I without a doubt believe it will be with the Full E Street Band. My source told me 2 months ago Bruce was gonna tour spring of 09 and that he was going to do the superbowl before he got annouced to play the superbowl halftime. Also there is no doubt that Max Weinberg will be playing with the band. Max has always put Bruce ahead of Conan and Conan can always get a replacement drummer for the taping of the show. The tour should end around the time of Bonnaroo because Conan is taking over the west coast in June or July for Leno's spot
Plus if you watch the show, the guitarist takes over the show whenever Max is gone, it's not like they don't have back up plans at the show.
Bruce was the first concert I ever went to (I know what a way to start,) and just does a very good, high energy show, even with his age. He had to have played five encores that night. The crowd was into it, he was into it, and this was a show in Buffalo! Imagine what he'll pull out for Roo. For people new to Bruce, check out Hammersmith Odeon, its a really great live show and really shows you how good he is as a musician live.

One of the great things about Bruce is if he gets a 3 and half hour time slot he will play the whole time slot and probably go over the time with encores
I'm surprised that everyone is so excited for Springsteen. I've seen him twice, including an epic show last summer for the Harley Davidson 105th anniversary. (He played for over 4 hours!) Even though I'm a casual fan of Bruce, I don't see him doing it for most Bonnaroo folks. He will work his ass off to put on a good show and engage the audience, but I see most people taking the opportunity to catch up on some much need rest for the late night acts. IMO

I've never been a huge Bruce fan, but I think you'd be cheating yourself skipping it. The guy has a permanent place in Rock & Roll history. And I've gotten chills listening to Glory Days, used on cheesy sound tracks on cheesy tv programs. Imagine 80,000 bonnaroo-ans singing along to glory days, or born in the usa. Not a part of the festival Id like to be sleeping for....
I've seen Bruce twice -- in '85 or '86 (at the Meadowlands!) and again in 2006 at JazzFest, right after Katrina, when he was with the Seeger Sessions Band. While I'd definitely consider myself a casual fan, I won't miss his set at Bonnaroo if he is, in fact, playing.

yeah, pretty much what i was thinking too.
i think he is going to be the headliner i break out the chairs for and chill in the back and get really drunk.
but fuck, its going to be better then the goddamn police.

Well if he is Sunday a lot of people leave early anyway. I think even if you are not a fan the guests who would jump on with Bruce would make it well worth it.
I think it's a toss-up as to who would be top billed between Phish and Springsteen. I mean, in the grand scheme of things, Springsteen is bigger. But obviously Phish is huge in their own right, especially with the festy crowd. I could see that going either way.
not when it comes to Bonnaroo or festies. Springsteen would never draw 100k people to the middle of the Everglades. And that was without being broken up for two years. Phish built the mold that Bonnaroo was created from. Bonnaroo was born out of a scene that Phish pretty much spearheaded. I know a lot of people want to see the mainstream artists now, but when Bonnaroo began, it wasn't about that.
the thing is... Phish has the power to draw a crowd the size of Bonnaroo by doing their own fest where they are the ONLY band that plays. That is why Phish never played Bonnaroo in the past when they were still together. When they broke up, they also broke up what was Phish Inc. So all of the people that were paid by Phish to create Phish festivals no longer work for Phish. It is easier now, or at least FOR NOW to just play Bonnaroo, rather than do their own fest.
Bottom line... if Phish plays Bonnaroo... this will be Phish's festival. Doesn't matter whether they play Friday or Saturday or Sunday... this WILL be Phish's festival.

I am excited to see Springsteen but I believe it may be the smallest headliner show yet....if its on sunday. Like Landa321 said....this will be Phish's festival. People will buy tickets just to see Phish, not to many people will buy tickets just to see Springsteen.

you people have had way too much corn. just as lots of the police fans bought tickets just for them last year, springsteen fans will buy roo tickets, probably even moreso. you are also greatly exagerrating the effect phish will have. phish is not going to sell out the fest by themselves. even with the boss and phish i doubt it really "sells out" they usually announce that he has like a week before the fest, but i'm pretty it never has or will be a true sell out.

Yeah, I saw him at Jazzfest and thought it was a great show! He just played old timey songs, but sounded good, but that might be just me as I like some of that old timey stuff.

oh goody, havent been on here in over a week so this is all new to me, i had a feeling of hope he would sign on, i hope the TS is correct on his statement!
Normally just a lurker, but this is great news if it is true... nobody to this day is better live than Springsteen!!
Still great today.... not a great song, but great performance!
But, here is probably the best, easily accessible concert footage of Bruce from his heyday... I can't pick just one to recommend, each is great for its own reasons www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=5DC8363F3F14C95B
Bruce can be quite boring on record if you are looking to rock, but the man was truly born to be on the stage!!
welcome aboard vandyfan, agreed to the "born to be on a stage" comment
Thanks!!
One more thing, I am no expert on Phish, but I would bet that Springsteen has just as many rabid fans. How many people buy tickets just to see him will probably be greatly influenced by how much he plays the SE during the next tour.

Springsteen most certainly seems like a logical headliner. I can't think of three songwriters who have received more praise than Dylan, Young, and Springsteen....and we have already had the first two.

Please feel free to go hang out in that field up in michigan with chandler and that one chick from FAILhio and wait and see if rothbury happens.
first off what r u talking about man?? what did i say about rothbury? and it is happening i dont know if u noticed that or not.
also im sure springsteen puts on a great live show from what ive heard...but i just dont enjoy any of his music so i dont see how i would have fun... again im not trying to put bruce down or any of his fans...just expressing my opinion
someone mentioned great songwriters....dylan young and springsteen..... i think i would rather see dylan or young rather then bruce...

Thanks for the history lesson on Bonnaroo and for informing me it's apparently ONLY about Phish if they do come.
Yeah, like I said it's a toss-up because of the festy crowd. Phish are huge in that respect. I don't know what you're disagreeing with.
Big picture, Springsteen is definitely bigger than Phish. Maybe not in your world, but outside of jambandland he is a living legend that sells out everywhere he plays and he's been doing it for 30+ years.
"Then there’s Bonnaroo. We’ve already reported the widespread rumors that legendary jam-band Phish are headlining the Tennessee fest, but over the last week talk has also intensified over at the Inforoo message board suggesting that Bruce Springsteen is set to take the What stage. The only other name to be “confirmed” indirectly thus far for the Roo is Erykah Badu (via her friend Rceezy’s MySpace).
Today also marks the beginning of this year’s Roo Clues, a series of riddles appearing on Bonnaroo Radio that hint at confirmed performers. You can keep up-to-date on all the Roo Clues over the next few weeks at this handy site set up by an Inforoo member. But if you don’t feel that ambitious, just stay tuned to MTVNews.com. You can be sure that we’ll have the full lineups for all of this year’s major fests as they’re announced."

I'm 100% a Phish fan since my first run of shows in 1994.
That said, you're right.
Springsteen is WAY bigger than Phish and his fans are PASSIONATE. Sure Phish is a draw for pholks like us. But you're totally underestimating Springsteen fans if you don't think he can do the same.
A review of last year's Harley Davidson show. As at least one person here already mentioned, it went past 3-1/2 hours. Here's the setlist:
Set: Gypsy Biker/Out In The Street /Radio Nowhere/The Promised Land/Spirit In The Night/Wooly Bully (Sam The Sham cover)/Darlington County/You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch)/Darkness On The Edge Of Town /Youngstown/Murder Incorporated/She’s The One /Livin’ In The Future /Mary’s Place/Working On The Highway/Racing In The Street/The Rising/Last To Die/Long Walk Home/Badlands
Encore: Seven Nights To Rock/4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)/Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out/Glory Days/Born To Run/Rosalita/Bobby Jean/American Land/Thunder Road/Dancing In The Dark/Born To Be Wild (Steppenwolf cover)
I'm sure it'll be a bit different if we do get him in June, but that definitly looks like a good way to spend a Friday or a Saturday night.
