The key to a good rickroll is the element of surprise.
So you're telling me there's hope that he'll be a last minute addition?
Is SuperFly gonna RickRoll 80,000 Bonnaroovians?
how awesome would this be....its time for phish to come on stage....and trey leads the way...everyone goes crazy....next comes this guy noone really recognizes and all of a sudden he grabs the microphone and....NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP....

That would be a RickRoll of Epic proportion.
The sad reality is that Rick has enjoyed far more airplay and commercial success than Phish.
Isnt it sad living in a world that would prefer Rick Astley over Phish? I mean WTF?
I didnt go last year because I was less than impressed with the line up and it was the biggest mistake I ever made....I hated sitting at home those days in june when I shoulda been on the farm. If you've been to Bonnaroo you know that its 50% seeing awesome shows from bands you love and 25% hearing music you normally wouldnt see/pay for and 25% just being at Bonnaroo. Maybe its not for you this year, just dont make the same mistake I did without thinking it through and asking yourself why you really go to bonnaroo
Perfect math. Couldn't have said it better myself.
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey

Don't forget the perfect Bonnaroo lineup value equation -
# of bands you want to see/# of days you'll be there = # bands you'll see per day
price of attendance (figure that out however you want to)/# of days you'll be there = Price per day
Compare your # of bands per day to your price per day. Can you see that many shows in one day in your home town for the price you're paying to attend Roo? If you can, I want to know where you live. It's that simple.
Of course, there are complications like schedule conflicts, but no equation is perfect. Except the one that gets me to Roo every year (see above).

Alright this is for all first time Rooers and Festers who may be discouraged or on the fence like Erinroo. Really put the "headliners" in perspective, the main stage can have up to 80 000 people - chances are you will have a tough time getting in super close (unless you really put in the work) to see the artist. Look at the Headliners more as a good party cuz while you may not see the band you can't help but soak up the atmosphere and move to the jams! If you get to obssed about being "right there" for the headliner you will be disapointed or squished! ( by the way Bruce is my favorite artist and I am basically looking at roo being the best Boss dance party I have ever been to rather than the perfect chance to see him up close and personal) If you really want to see a band focus on the tents cuz there really is not a better fest than the roo to get up close to see anyone in the tents. The other thing is the late nights trump any other fest, it adds to the generally superiorally(that's right) fun vibe of the roo - once you really get to the fest you will see all intinary plans you previously made will have died. The roo is seriously what ever you want - if you saw a sweet dance act that has revved you up for another go find another or get pumped for the late night (same applies to all moods - i won't get into the science). You seriously can't go wrong with Roo, truthfully the less bands you want to see will only give you more time to really discover what this thing is all about.

For me Bonnaroo is more like 100% being there, the music i love and the music i soon will love is just bonus.
one of the coolest things about Bonnaroo is that you can experience music that you would otherwise not get the chance to hear. I've seen more than a few bands that, if they came to my city, I may not pay to see them, but since all I have to do is walk to the next stage, I'll give them a chance and hear something great.
might as well start a thread titled: "everyone please rip me to shreds!!" or "am i a huge dumbass?" or "the official tell me what shitty music tastes i have thread!"
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

I think the OP wouldn't have gotten slammed so bad if she at least had the line-up right. I mean, it takes some kind of ignorance to complain about something that you don't even have an accurate conception of.
I was very vocal last year about my dislike for the line-up. That being said, I gave actual reasons for not liking it. She simply named three artists (one of which isn't even playing the festival), and said she did not like them. Then she failed to defend her initial statement.
If you don't like the line-up, that is fine by me. But:
a) at least know who is on the line-up if you are going to complain about it.
b) give me actual reasons other than, "I only like three bands that are playing"

Personally, I gotta say I'm not as stoked about the lineup as I was this time last year. Maybe it's the fact that last year was my first Roo and I absolutely love me some Metallica and Pearl Jam. I'm far from the Nickelback-loving Clear Channel brainwashed crowd, but I'd probably be considered by the festie faithful to be one of the more "mainstream" attendees that '08 seems to be notorious for. But the moment the wife and I walked into Centeroo and grabbed a spot for Back Door Slam, we were already talking about next year. It didn't matter what the lineup would look like.
I don't care for Springsteen, but I'll be there just to have a chance to see a rock legend and see how he brings it in concert. It's an expereince that I wouldn't normally get because I wouldn't be at one of his concerts otherwise. I'm treating it like Willie Nelson last year. I absolutely HATE country music. I knew I wouldn't enjoy the songs he was playing, but I can appreciate the music he was making. I see it as a chance to broaden my horizons and appreciate some very influential musicians play some great music that is just not really my taste. The opportunity is there, so why not take it?
My Phish experience beyond their cover of "Gin & Juice" is very limited, but I know they're not really a band I would listen to on a daily basis. I can't really see myself getting all that into their stuff before 'Roo via mp3s or YouTube, so the plan is to show up at their set after a good feast of corn and other wild edibles knowing next to nothing about them and have a face-melting good time. (I'm really trusting all you Phans out there that they can bring quite the spectacle, I don't do this for other bands).
There's a lot of other bands I'm somewhere between "meh" and "no thanks" on even near the top of the lineup. I really like The Mars Volta's music but absolutely cannot stand the vocals, so I probably won't be seeing them. I think the vast majority of NIN post The Downward Spiral is overwhelmingly disappointing, but I will most definitely be at that show. David Byrne who? But I have added several awesome new (to me anyway) bands to my music collection - Portugal. The Man, Band of Horses, TVotR, moe., etc. to add to my list of several from last year. We still have a few rounds of additions to go , and I still haven't even gotten around to checking out all of the initial lineup (guess I should get on David Byrne).
If there's a band playing i don't like, that's at best one less potential conflict with someone I have to see, at worst a time to eat and rest up or wander aimlessly about the farm to see what kind of crazy shit I can see. There's so much to see, do, or experinece there it's unreal. There's a ferris wheel, mechanical bull, baloon vendors, people with painted bodies, it's like a god damn circus!
I guess my point is that Roo is much more than the lineup, or even the epic shows they'll put on over the four days. It's the work you put in preparing for it and getting there, it's about the mad dash to check out all this new music that you'd never heard of. It's about hanging out with 80k+ random people, and all making it work over 4 days exposed to June weather in TN. Think of it as a four day vacation from reality that just happens to have a badass soundtrack.
Oh, and for the record - It's one guy. HOLLAND is his first name OATES is his last name. :-)
^^ Yeah man definately get on the David Byrne man. I didnt know much of his music either (aside from big Talking Heads songs) but listened to his new record with Brian Eno and it blew me away. I knew most of the other bands but a few others off the lineup i was positively introduced to was Yeasayer, Okkervil River, and Animal Collective. I think you would probably like Ben Harper Relentless 7, Down, and Booker T and DBTs.

EDIT: and that's not even really the best example of what they can do, but i didn't want to spoil it for you. Their best work is when they are playing live.

I would heve guessed a guy with the name wonderllama would be a big Phish phan.

Lol, I figured that would be about as far from Phish as one could get even if that was them doing it. I have heard a few songs off Farmhouse, watched a YouTube video or so, so I do have knowledge, just very limited as I said. I know their reputation for epic live experiences, and live concerts just don't translate that well to me either in audio or on YouTube even unless I really know the band, and it's still by no means the same thing. I just figured it would be better to get to know the band in their natural (or as close as possible) setting. It just seems right, I can't really explain it. I'm just seeing it as my totally random musical journey of the weekend. Anyway, it'll be a good time.

That's by the Gourds.
Who I might add would be welcomed by me as an addition to this already ASSKICKING lineup. I can't believe that that lousy mislabeled bit torrent is still out there. Ugh.

I asked the gourds last year if they were playing Bonnaroo again, and they said bonnaroo was afraid of them. But yes they kick major ass, and so does their version of Gin & Juice. This is my second most viewed youtube video at 30000+ views

Good post. You should come by our tent this year for a cold Canadian beer
