Awwww. You just have to a) find a guy who can cook or b) find a guy who is fine with TV dinners and/or take out.
I need a guy who can cook, build/fix things, goes to fests, is a nerd, and preferably has a beard. I don't ask for much.
In exchange I can provide drunken entertainment & pretty much nothing else.
I'm a total catch.
I totally got that guy..... minus the going to fests, because he is a sound guy and works them I also provide drunken entertainment, and that's about it...... You and I will get along awesomely!!

In learning how to cook, it's trial and error. No one starts out being a great cook, you have to learn! I have made things that were literally inedible (as recently as a month ago), but I didn't give up just because something went wrong that one time. Practice! It's the only way you'll get better, just like with anything in life

Wow this thread blew up, didn't it? Alright I'll try and post some pointers here:
For all the people lacking motivation: I know you all have Netflix. It's probably got something to do with why you're on the couch haha! Watch Food Inc., Forks Over Knives, and/or Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead. These movies WILL motivate you to not just get healthier, but make a lifestyle change. That's what it's all about. Sometimes we focus on the wrong things, or try to change too much all at once. Just eat healthy this week, and pay attention to how you feel.
For all the people unsure of how to eat healthy: The most important part of eating healthy is preparation. Write a shopping list of things your body needs for the next week/2 weeks, and only buy what's on the list (within reason of course). I like to print out some recipes for the week, or at least think of what meals I want, to give me an idea. This assures you that you have the ingredients necessary in the house to make a meal you're actually looking forward to. Also, I can't speak enough about cooking in bulk. This really helps. Having healthy leftovers pretty much forces you into the daily habit. A few of my favorites are healthy stir fry and marinated chicken breast.
(Sorry, my tagging never works)
Monie/ITM - Google recipes. Most of the time, cooking is as simple as following instructions. 2 big mistakes a lot of people make are overcooking their food, and using too much heat. Overcooking your food takes out a lot of the nutrients. Set timers on your phone, and it should help a bunch.
Anyone looking for exercise advice, shoot me a PM. I have a ton of great resources and info that I could fill an entire thread, so just let me know. The hardest part is getting that gym membership, and getting in there that first day. I've made hundreds of workout plans for myself, and would be more than willing to help you guys get started/make your work out more efficient. Sources: My dad was a college weight lifter, I played football and exercised through most of my child hood, and just last year got up to 215 pounds and probably 12-15% body fat.
Everyone needs to take probiotics. Unhealthy gut flora makes for undigested food which leads to major problems. I guarantee 99% of people here wanting to lose weight have some sort of digestion imbalance. Detox your digestive tract, balance your gut flora, and eliminate problematic foods. I'm not a professional, but a lifelong friend/neighbor of mine is a world renowned clinical western herbalist with a heavy background of nutrition and nutritional healing.
You have any suggestions on brands or a place to start looking?
(playing the part of g a b f r a b today will be: jfg108)
True story: one of my friend's aunts was having a wealth of health issues from a gastrointestinal perspective. Her doctors brought up the idea of a fecal transplant (which is basically exactly what it sounds like). Her daughter volunteered and passed whatever testing it was. After the procedure, the aunt has been doing much better in that regard. It seemed like a super weird idea to me, but you can't argue with results.
Well I lost a bunch of weight last year, but inevitably put some back on. Need to get back on track but this damn michigan weather is killing me. I hate the dreadmill.

Have any of you guys tried Bulletproof Coffee? I started 2 months ago and I love it. Essentially, you mix in grassfed butter and coconut oil with your coffee. The guys behind it believe that butter has some inherently special qualities to it and that "low fat" isn't necessarily a good thing. I'm trying to keep this short and on point, but a lot of people can work out very hard, and eat what they perceive is very healthy but with low fat intake and they'll see stagnated results. When they throw in (healthy) fat the weight flys off.
In the beginning of February I injured my back lifting and then caught a cold at the worst of my lameness from my injury. I felt terrible but I take off so much work to go to concerts I didn't want to call out. I had heard this bulletproof coffee just does a better job waking you up than normal coffee. That is all I expected really, for it to taste good and to wake me up.. It tastes unbelievable, and it makes me so alert.
After a month of not being able to work out, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and was surprised how skinny I felt. After a month no working out, I felt I was gonna gain.. 8 pounds? 10 maybe? When I finally stepped on the scale I had lost 5 pounds, and I really can't explain it in any way besides starting to drink bulletproof coffee.
I dunno, if people want to try I wouldn't go in expecting it to be a diet assistant, just that it tastes delicious and you'll feel great. You get kerrygold unsalted (you probably don't want salty coffee) butter and unrefined coconut oil and mix it in a tablespoon each to your morning coffee. The kerrygold is important because that's the only one that's really grassfed. It also tastes way better than normal butter.

Then lift! Go play racquetball! Everyone needs to switch things up from time to time.

Blending it into your coffee makes it even better. The coconut oil foams up and pretty much turns your coffee into a latte.

Pure broscience... Not to mention Asprey (the guy behind it) is a hack. It's just a marketing ploy targeted toward those who are on the whole keto kick.
However, it's definitely true that full-fat is the way to go. The reason being that it keeps you satiated longer which means you're eating less. It also provides you energy over a more spaced out time period (as opposed to a spike of energy like sugar gives), which is why you're feeling "more alert" for longer than usual. Pretty basic really. The same concept applies to anything full-fat (yogurt, milk, butter etc).
That said, if you like the taste then go for it (I haven't personally tried it because coffee and butter sounds disgusting).

The secret to eating healthy is to eat natural foods. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, mushrooms, fish, etc... If you're eating something that's heavily processed or has more than 5 ingredients, you are probably eating unhealthy. There is no safe processed food. As far as fat. I'm gonna tell you the secret to fat. Cut out every single food in your diet that contains any of the following ingredients:
Partially-Hydrogenated Oil. Hydrogenated Oil (unless it states explicitly that it is fully hydrogenated). Monoglycerides. Diglycerides. Triglycerides. Margarines of any kind (there is no healthy margarine, period, even the so-called "healthy" ones are not).
Transfat is a bogus term. Companies are not required to list their glycerides as transfat, and they can switch to using intersified fats to cut their numbers and still mess with you. There is a huge spike in heart disease 30 years after the introduction of partial-hydrogenization similar to the huge spike in lung cancer following the widespread use of cigarettes. This is the fat that is killing people. Many of the studies now being done are showing the saturated fats, once thought to be evil demons, are actually not (in fact, many long lived populations eat large doses of saturated fats, the key is the source of those fats and the interaction with the other fats in their diet). It's exactly what you'd expect, when you're making food out of something that is not food, you have a problem.
The real thing here is processed versus natural foods. If you are eating heavily processed foods, you are MOST LIKELY eating unhealthy. You want to eat fats, your body NEEDS fat, but it needs it from real sources, like hazelnuts, avocados, meat, yogurt (real yogurt, not that sugar-loaded garbage they sell as yogurt at many stores), olive oil, etc... You want to get your vitamins from real sources like vegetables, fortified food literally have multivitamins ground up in them, which your body can't absorb as readily as natural foods. It's a bit deceptive when someone is popping "nutrient pills", your digestive tract isn't built to run on Jetsons pills, it's built to break down actual plant matter.
If you follow my advice on fats (and do your own research) you'll already be cutting 90% of processed foods out of your diet anyway.

Random side note: since I have cut down on the carbs/food, I haven't had heartburn once. I used to have to take some antacid at least once every other day. That's a nice bonus.

I think going full fat was a great decision. I only drink whole milk now and try to get whole fat yogurt (though it's getting really hard). I also eat the fat on a steak, but that's just so I can be more prepared than John Candy was in The Great Outdoors.

I'm confused, first you say it's bull, then you explain why it works? Of course I don't think coffee+butter= profit .. My body is craving those fats and the coffee is a delivery mechanism that's good at absorbing them.
As far as the only reason to go full fat is it satiates you. I disagree with this also, certainly it has this effect, but fat is a macronutrient we all need. Using the same term to describe an obese person and this macronutrient has been destructive in my opinion. Restricting fat intake probably won't make you skinny, but increasing it in an otherwise healthy lifestyle in some cases (me for example) might.
For the record I'm specifically against "low fat" or light anything. People should strive to eat normal versions of healthy foods whenever possible. If you want some ice cream have some fucking ice cream (on occasion), but don't trick yourself into thinking picking the low fat one is good for you.

I never said the only benefit to full-fat was satiety. That was just the example I used as to why it was beneficial. There are many other reasons, I know.
What I meant regarding the coffee was that the butter part makes sense, but the whole concept is quackery. You'd get the same benefit from drinking any coffee and eating 6 tbsp of butter.
Plus his marketing is akin to snake oil ("Drinking this coffee allows you to lose 40 lbs while eating 4,000 calories a day and not working out and sleeping only 5 hours a night!"). And then there's the whole 'mold and toxin free' BS he claims about his 'upgraded' coffee.
What I'm trying to say is everything on his site is BS, with the exception of avoiding low-fat stuff.

"Low Fat" versions of foods are typically less healthy because of what they put in to create the texture and flavor of the full-fat versions. It's also not particularly healthy to replace fats with tons of carbs + sugars. When you're eating stabilizers, texturizers, plastizers, sugar and preservatives instead of fat... well you get the picture.
So while I was not so sober I shaved my head and beard (not the stache though, phew) and of course you know if you shave you look bigger. No big deal.
I celebrated 30 days of no sweets on Saturday and was pretty stoked.
Tonight I went to the gym and weighed myself and....well.....I'm kinda upset about it.
I turend around and looked in the mirror and for the first time in about a year I felt like I finally SAW myself. I won't get into details right now but at this moment I'm pretty bummed. I was going to just leave the gym but worked out instead since that's what I have to do. I thought after the work out I'd feel better but I don't. I just need to sleep. I had no one to talk too about this since it's so late, so I thought I'd post it here.
I'll be fine though. I worked hard to lose the weight the first time and I'm just pissed I let myself go so bad (I'm 30 pounds heavier NOW than I was when I first started and this is after a month of working out) and it's crazy how easy it creeps up on you. All I can do is hit it hard and not look back. I'm not gonna let this defeat me but in my moment of weakness right now I just want to cry and eat ice cream.

Don't let it defeat you! No one is going to judge you for gaining weight back. Life gets in the way, and we all know that. You will always be your harshest critic, and we'll be your biggest supporters.
When I first started trying to lose weight, I didn't lose anything for almost a MONTH. It was really discouraging. But I plowed through, kept going to the gym and eating right, and then the pounds started dropping.

+1 hang in there, token! don't give up!
i am seriously impressed by your having gone 30 days with no sweets. you've got the willpower and determination down for sure, and for some (me especially) that's the hardest part. keep getting after it and your body will have to respond.
we're having a weeklong library celebration next week, our version of NLW, and of course it all involves food bc that's the way you involve college students
in the various events: cake on monday, cookies/lemonade on tuesday and wednesday, thursday won't be so bad because i think a deli tray is included on which i will go to town, and friday is gonna be a beast with candy, chips, pizza, and soda available all day long and i'm working until 8.
i might need write motivational shit on my hand to stop me if i break and reach for something.
Ugh.. I had some leg pain while on my run yesterday. I've been battling a nagging stress fracture for over a year now and have just been back to 100% these past couple months. Even the slightest twinge of pain is enough to send me into a full blown panic attack, especially when I have a race this weekend. Hopefully a day of rest and an ice bath gets it back in order.
