Restaurants are really hard. This week alone I've had three meals out for business purposes and then today I have both lunch AND dinner paid for at restaurants for work purposes. I mean, it's great and I'm glad I get to eat out for free, but it's so hard to manage your calories. Even the veggies get covered in some sauce that I'm sure is mostly butter! I am going to try hard today to go for small portions and outside of my two restaurant meals, not eat too many calories. Green tea is my friend. So is eating a whole head of iceburg lettuce. It's strangely satisfying...
I've been drinking green tea at work to curb my appetite and it helps. I've eaten food from a restaurant twice this week and am going out again for lunch today. I normally do not go out at lunch but a friend is coming in from out of state, so I had to go. Sigh. NEED to lose weight before Bonnaroo!!!!
Josh and I have been trying to split meals as much as possible when we go out to eat now. It doesn't always work because sometimes we just want different things, but when we can do it, it automatically splits the portion size in half and saves money. (We still tip on what it would have been if we'd both had entrees, but the savings from not getting the second entree can sometimes be quite a bit, depending on the restaurant.)

That's a good idea! We usually try to take half of ours home with us, but that still means at some point we eat it all eventually!! Saving money would be nice also.
My sister is making me do this "diet bet" with her starting Monday (http://www.dietbetter.com/games). There's a buy in and as long as you lose a certain percentage in a certain amount of time, you get all your money back or even earn money. If you don't make your goal, you forfeit the dolla billz.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Off the wagon AGAIN. The past month has been awful for my gym routine and my diet.
However, I did manage to make my first green smoothie this morning. It was a little too thick, and the straw I was using must have had a hole because it didn't suck very well. It took me almost 2 hours to drink 16oz! But it has kept me full so that's a plus. I'll probably make a few more this week for breakfast.

What did you put in it? I ordered myself a blender because I want to make smoothies!

One cup of spinach and one cup of water to start. The recipe I followed said to blend your greens and liquid together first; however, I used my food processor, because I don't have a blender, and I don't think that step is necessary for a food processor. Anyway, next I added about 2 cups of fruit (though the recipe called for 1.5 cups): about one cup of fresh strawberries and then about one cup of frozen fruit (Kroger brand tropical smoothie fruit which was mango, pineapple, banana and strawberries). The recipe said to make sure some of your fruit is frozen so you don't have to add ice. I also added three tbsp of dried oats for extra protein and a tiny bit of honey because I wanted to make sure it was sweet enough. The honey probably wasn't necessary though.

Sounds awesome! I can't wait to try to make these.

MAYBE that will get me going? Maybe.
I <3 your sister. Is she going to Roo this year?
I wish I knew if my diet was working because my scale broke a week ago. I ran 5 miles this morning, which was awesome, but I'm going out to dinner tonight with business associates so that will likely cancel it out. Oh well. Any day I'm not gaining weight is still a day in the right direction.
No, she doesn't do Roo. Hangout was a one time type deal. I am hoping to get her to one of the fests at SOSMP (Wanee, etc.) one of these days though...

Today was the first day I woke up with zero swelling in my abdomen from my surgery. And there were abs there! I'm so excited all my hard work is paying off even when it has seemed like it's doing nothing. I'm sure it will swell up as the day goes on but it was a small reveal that will keep me going even stronger and harder. I have to say that I think the decreased swelling and bloating has to come with eating pretty clean. I have been grilling a lot and avoiding sugar and carbs/grains and after a week my weight went down. It feels so much better eating this way.

i would like to start running, but i think i would need to find a track or trail near my house to do so. asphalt makes my shins feel like they're gonna explode out of my legs.
I've been doing pretty good this week! A few days ago, I went to the grocery store (for the first time in WEEKS), and spent the evening cooking healthy options for the fridge (and some veggie soup portions for the freezer). The past three days have been gluten free, added sugar free, mostly dairy free... The only bad meal was the wine the liquid dinner that I had last night- I brought wine into the movies with me... oops. There goes that no added sugar! However, I DID avoid the popcorn which I have been CRAVING for weeks, so that's a major win.
I haven't made it to the gym, but I have increased my general activity the past few days- walking to the movies, walking to different errands on campus... baby steps!

The asphalt has killed my legs. I'm not sure it's something I could do on a regular basis but I'm going to try to run outside once every few weeks.

Your legs can build up to it but the intermittent running might be harder on your body than you think. I would suggest starting with more frequent short runs or run walks and build up. Your legs will adjust more and more to the impact but it takes time and patience. If you're interested I can look up some plans for it.
The other option is finding gravel or dirt paths. I really prefer running on those personally.
Also, take notice about how your foot is landing when you run. If your heel is striking first that's much harder on your joints that the middle or front of your foot.

Thanks. I'm really not interested in running regularly; I just wanted to see if I could do it I will probably stick to he elliptical machine at the gym.
Nothing wrecks havoc on healthfulness like the end of a semester. First I dropped a bunch of weight from stress/lack of time not eating. Then I gained it back plus some from stress binge eating. Just another reason I can't wait for Summer is being able to eat like a regular person and have enough time to work out again.
So I don't recommend it but becoming a coffee drinker has helped me lose 3.5 lbs in the last week. It's probably just that I'm constantly dehydrated though...
I really want to start running (that was weird/difficult to type) for the whole body benefits. How far would you all recommend going maybe 3 times per week for a beginner?

I'd recommend 1-3 miles, and start if you want using the Jeff Galloway "run-walk" method where you run some, walk some. I find that can help your legs and brain get used to longer runs.

I used the Active.com couch to 5k app to get into running. You do more walking than running for the first couple weeks and then it builds up. Loved it.

Coffee fills me up and kills my appetite. If I am drinking my coffee, I am rarely hungry for at least 2-3 hours after I wake up. I try to eat something small for breakfast sometimes- not because I am hungry but because you're supposed to- and I hate doing it!
And I agree about the C25K- I tried that a few years ago. Also I agree that the first few weeks moved a little slow- I ended up skipping forward a bit.

Coffee can boost your metabolism and help burn fats. And consumed in moderation (which seems to be more than what one might expect), coffee has a bunch of health benefits: Article about 13 health benefits of coffee. Of course, if you add sugar to it, that's not so great, but the coffee itself is good for you.
Thanks y'all! I'm going to try the couch to 5k thing but I'll probably have to modify if because I'm already pretty okay with running a 5k. There are times when I have to slow it down but I can manage it.
When i started about 40 days ago i was barely able to get 2 miles down before i was in need of a IV drip, but now I am running 3-5 miles every other day. This upcoming week i make it 3 miles a day till I'm back on the farm. Thanks everyone for the motivation.
Also, does anyone know if they're still planning on doing a 5k this year?
