So I got a free meal from Cheesecake (usually it's not free) as payment for training a new server last night. I ordered it without the coconut curry noodles and with extra bean sprouts instead. I will probably eat it more as a salad for lunch today and tomorrow. I also have baby spinach and dry coleslaw here ass well to bulk up the salads. I AM SO EXCITED. So flavorful and delicious.
This weekend, I WILL food prep (I repeat, I will... I swear...) and I plan on getting everything ready to make Vietnamese inspired salads next week, which is one of my FAVORITE salads. I make a dressing based on summer roll dipping sauce (rice vinegar, fish sauce, a butt load of garlic, sometimes soy) and get fresh cilantro, scallion, etc. to make the salads. OH SO GOOD.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

no prob! i tried to use the quick tools to make it a personal meal that i can repeat but it's not showing up for some reason.
burberry142, quick tools is just a quick way to add food to your diary. If you want to save something: Food > Recipes> Enter new recipe (on the right side). It'll calculate total nutritional information, you can portion it out into servings if it's more than one meal size, and for your specific question- it'll save it for future smoothies. Note that I am looking on a computer. In addition to calories, I like to track fat, carb, protein, fiber and calcium, but only the calories show up on the app. So I'll use the app for the on-the-go needs, but try to use a computer when I can.

luva, I just remembered something else. Always weigh yourself at the same time of day. Your weight can actually shift significantly in the course of a day. It helps if you set a time that fits in your routine. I do it every morning right after I hit the bathroom.

Already turned down donuts and cookies bc i didnt want anyone to know (by posting on my diary) woohoo! You guys rock! Thanks for keeping me accountable!
One thing that I've found really helpful is fasting during the morning. For the past month I've been waiting until 2:30ish each day to eat lunch, and I've found that fitting all of my calories in between 2:30 and bedtime allows me to have much more satisfying meals. Eating throughout the day always had me never really hungry, but never full or satisfied either. Also, apparently after 12 hours of no calories, the body starts to use its fat stores for energy because the glycogen stores left over from the last meal have been depleted, giving a slight fat-burning advantage after 12 hours. A lot of people doing intermittent fasting eat between 12 and 8; I push my meal time later in the day because I stay up late and often have evening munchies. I find that now that my body is used to it, I don't even start getting hungry until noon or so, then a cup of black coffee staves off the hunger pangs until lunch time. Overall I find it easier to coordinate my meals and I'm much more satisfied at the end of the day. I'm sure it's not for everybody though. And for those looking to build or maintain muscle, have a scoop of BCAAs before working out while still in the fasted state, otherwise you're more likely to burn muscle instead of fat. If you work out after breaking the fast you should be fine.
This is EXACTLY how I have been eating lately and it has been working well (-3 this week). I'm a night owl so even though I get up early with my kids I tend to want to eat more later in the day and in the evening when I'm "on". The black coffee thing has also worked well to curb hunger and even my insane cravings for something sweet (I buy vanilla biscotti coffee and drink it black). All in all, good plan for someone who starts their day a little later and stays up late at night.

I want to eat this NOW! Also, saw your lunch snap and it looked so yum!
I'm focusing more on the 'get fit' part; gonna need the ups to keep moving during long music filled days. This thread has helped me be more conscious of what I am eating (or not) and how much I am exercising (or not). You're struggles and success stories inspire me; although I am not at the level of downloading an app, I am going to keep a food journal and post it here and see how that goes.
Trying to consistently get over 1300-1400 calories a day whilst not eating terrible non-food things, and at least 30 minutes a day of heart-rate raising exercise - in whatever form.

Yay good job!! I turned down amazing cup cakes on Tuesday, although I did get a tiny bite of the edge, just to taste it......
I haven't been offered anything. Someone offer me something delicious so I can turn it down.
You were offered the delicious desserts at Sitar on Saturday - we both turned them down
True. After I stuffed myself with Indian food. I put on a pound, but starved it off Sunday. Would have been more, but dancing to Mogwai Saturday night helped.
Not my best day, but it was trivia night. Nice, cheap, - and most importantly greasy – bar food is hard to resist; and it got me well over my 1300 calorie goal. Got the water in; got the brisk walk done in between downpours. Pretty much failed on greens and non-processed grains, which explains why the fiber was so low. Mostly because I didn’t have any in the larder. Went shopping for my mother at Trader Joe’s – for myself I picked up frozen fruit, naan bread, and some weird thing called ‘Cruciferous Crunch’ with Kale, Broccoli, cabbage, and brussel sprouts. Couscous too. Forgot limes. Gotta get some of those FiberOne chocolate chip granola bars. Was never hungry; bored maybe. Try again tomorrow.
Yeah.. my booze last night was almost the same calories as my food!! Mostly because I had two Southern Tier Double IPAs which MFP put at almost 500 calories! Plus a little wine and vodka (it was a busy, long night)
The booze KILLED the calorie goal (I think I had 400 or so calories to spare before and ended up almost 500 over!). And I went to happy hour and chose healthy options so it didn't hurt me too bad in the calorie/fat department, but it didn't help me reach my goals either because it was basically all protein. If I had a real, rounded out meal (and no beer), it would have been a decent day.
Breakfast: Coffee- black, splenda Lunch: That Thai salad that I talked about yesterday Snack: Hard-boiled egg around three and a simple arugula salad with sauteed mushrooms and onions at 5:00 Dinner: 3 (big) chicken satays with peanuts and peanut sauce, and a tofu summer roll Booze: 2 vodka sodas, 2 red wines, and 2 Souther Tier Double IPAs

was under by 270 calories today. had two massive salads so I was super full but didn't use my calories. I'm avoiding the booze tonight (even tho it's hockey playoffs) so I feel pretty good about it the weekends are my weakness so lets hope for will power!!!!
I stepped on the scale this morning and was down another pound for a total of -10.5. I was busy today and knew my schedule would be messed up so I just went with it and didn't worry about logging my food, etc.
My daycare kids had Apple Jacks and bananas for breakfast, so I ate 1 cup of cereal with 1/2 cup of skim milk with the stragglers that weren't done eating when I got there. About 12:45 I was at the Kentucky Expo Center and needed a drink so I ordered a 32oz Diet Coke but they gave me a regular Coke instead. I was halfway across the building and out of time to go back when I noticed so I ended up drinking it.
I didn't get to eat any real food until about 4pm today while we were at the mall. I ate mall Chinese and it was worth it. I was starving and it was actually good, plus I didn't have a huge plate full like I could have. About 7:30 the kid asked for spaghetti and garlic bread and I ended up eating three huge pieces of the garlic bread I made (that shit was amazing).
The only thing I wish I didn't have is the Coke. Way too many empty calories and sugar. I don't even enjoy soda that much anyway and don't drink it often. I would say I'd do better tomorrow but my momma wants me to help her fry chicken tomorrow night. Per tradition I'll have 2-3 wings ate before the whole batch is even done. Good thing calorie cycling is supposed to be good for the metabolism cause I definitely eat more calories over the weekends.

oh man what a weekend. i accepted an offer on my house and if all goes well, i'll close the 11th before driving to bonnaroo. this month may be the busiest EVER - hopefully that means i'll be too busy to eat like crap, instead of it meaning i'll eat crap out of convenience. hopefully.
Oooo, I am getting more of those Special K shakes – tastes like the milk leftover from chocolate cereal - they are not cheap, so not an everyday thing. Okay, I pigged out on the skebetti, but I was hungry which is rare; I probably should have used those calories on more fruit. Rain (again!) hampered walk. Bringing a salad to have with my lunch tomorrow as it looks like I can afford a little more fat from the dressing.
I went to a doctor for the first itme since I've started my working out/eating better regimen. It's the first time I've stepped on a scale since last April...
And I've only lost 10 pounds. ??? I'm really hoping it was wrong because I'm quite sure I've lost more than that. Or maybe I was holding water weight or something. I mean, I've dropped two pant sizes! Still discouraging. Now I know why I don't normally step on a scale.

Losing 2 pants sizes >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> it being 10 lbs lost. Just sayin'.

This! If you're building muscle, the number on the scale wont mean much to you. Measurements are the real indicator of physical change to the body. I actually threw the scale out at my house.

Measure your success by the dropped pants sizes and how you feel both when you look at yourself and mentally. If all those things put a smile on your face and make you say "Go me!" then you are doing everything right.
You've probably gained some muscle, and because of that you should take the scale out into your yard and beat on it Office Space style.
Thanks guys. I don't have a scale at home for this reason. But I was really hoping to see a larger number since it's been over a year since my last weigh-in at the doctor.
In better news, I've been having a green smoothie for breakfast every morning for the past 3 weeks. I can finally have spinach without being grossed out!

This is awesome you guys. Being in accounting, the January-April months are horror on my figure. After getting into a lot better shape last year and working out a lot, running, and lifting. Once tax season comes it all goes to hell.
I walk to work every day, so that's about an hour of exercise, (3 miles round trip). Does anyone have any awesome recipes for breakfast smoothies that are healthy and yummy? I'm trying to cut a lot of the bread/pasta out of my diet to get ready for roo

My morning smoothies consist of (these are approximate measurements because I just eyeball it):
1 cup of spinach. You can use kale or another kind of green if you like it better. 1/2 cup water. You can use OJ or almond milk if you want something other than water, but I personally don't want the extra calories. 1 cup fresh fruit: I use one banana and usually some kind of berries. This week I'm using raspberries and blackberries because they were on sale! 1/2 to 3/4 cup cup frozen fruit. 2 tablespoons oats. You can also use almonds or peanut butter for extra protein.
My smoothie is about 12 oz... sometimes a little more since I do eyeball the ingredients.
If you google smoothie recipes, you'll find all kinds of helpful links.
