Not bad but nothing too heartbreaking since this will be the first Lolla that I havnt attended since 06. I think with those headliners that the middle tier will be alot better then last year. While the headliners were incredible last year the middle and bottom tier was seriously lacking. This lineup should be very good from top to bottom.

A poster at the Consequenceofsound messageboard named Johnny J had said that Janes/Beasties/Depeche Mode would be headlining for some time now. The other three headliners he said would be there are Tool, Killers, and Kings of Leon. He's been shown to be very accurate thus far.

Was thinking about going to this. The headliners were pretty predictable with Depeche Mode having a hole in their tour dates around Lollapalooza and Janes Addiction being Perry's band. They probably will have a great undercard too, but I've heard bad things about the crowd there. Can anyone who's been to Lollapalooza confirm or deny this?
One of the worst festie crowds I've ever been around
Rude, crude, talkie...not even just a social/frat type/obnoxious crowd....I mean Jazz Fest is a TOTAL social scene...it's the place to see and BE seen and it's totally a buzz thing....lots of visiting around and all...but people RESPECT each other and most of all RESPECT the music and musicians enough to LISTEN to what they are doing and at least speak in whispers in the crowd or be polite to each other when they are moving about and not crowd and push and be impolite...they have MANNERS...even as crowded as it is...
Lolly... geez! It's like a bunch of people that have never BEEN out in public before....NO respect for the music, the artists, other people or even themselves half the time.....just run over you to get through the crowds to the front of the stage for like TWO seconds to check out what's going on...say "ah screw it this bites!" then blast their way back OUT of the crowd with no regard for anything/anyone right away - zip! Knocking over cups, stepping on you, blankets, cameras...whatever...and NEVER EVER did I hear an "excuse me" or "sorry!" THAT was what was so awful to me...it was just the total 'tude of "hey...I paid my $$ just like you...deal with it!"
Honestly....one of the worst crowds eva! Would take an AWESOME lineup that I KNOW I couldn't get anyplace else to get me back to Lolly.....esp since VooDoo has a lot of the same indie/alt acts and a MUCH MUCH more laid back vibe.....
LOL! Well...ANY big festie is gonna have some of that....just the crowd thing and people moving around.....but at least in MY experiences there was a HUGE difference between the ROO/VooDoo/Echo type crowds and the Lolly crowd. Jazz Fest was it's own thing and REALLY REALLY crowded so hard to call but still...NOTHING like Lolly as far as just the total lack of respect for your fellow festie goer. At Roo I have never felt personally THREATENED....like afraid of anyone....at Lolly...I have to say there were several times where I honestly moved away in the crowd when people (mostly guys) just suddenly jumped up from behind me from nowhere and moved in front of me suddenly and rather aggressively and started encroaching on my space and not acting at all like they even cared what I thought about it...VERY uncomfortable esp for a rather petite girl like me.... so yeah...at least for me I've never felt physically uncomfortable with the crowd at Roo....but I DEF did at Lolly....
Ive never really experienced anything like bama at Lolla but its a different vibe for sure. Last year at Rage was probably the scariest concert experience of my life, I mad the mistake of getting pretty close and once they came on all hell broke lose and people were fainting and everything and they wernt able to get out because everyone was jumping up and down and going crazy. I was definitley afraid for all the girls and small people up there, thought if someone fell down then something realy bad was gonna happen. I said quack it after the first two songs and moved back to a comfortable distance and it was much better from back there. But thats the only time ive really experienced anything bad at Lolla. Been going the past few years and always have a blast. Lolla was my first fest so it holds a special place in my heart but now having been to both Lolla and Roo theres no doubt that Roo is 10x better.
Yeah...Rage is definitely an INTENSE experience....even at VooDoo where for the most part it is ALMOST as laid back as Roo is, which for a non-camping fest in a city park is pretty rare....the crowd for Rage was MAJORLY intense, mostly in the Pit which is what they are known for. I was in the photo pit for the first three songs and actually got in the photo pit about an hour before the set...while MIA was playing on the other stage....and the Rage pit was getting REALLY agressive and the front rows were starting to get crushed against the rails already and the girls up front were starting to get smahsed to the point of passing out and collapsing....we had to help security pull a couple of them into the photo pit cause they were in danger of getting crushed seriously One of them literally FELL into the photo pit head first before we could get to her and we all thought she had passed out and busted her head open....and it was SOOO packed tightly it took about 15 mins to get any kind of medical aide into the pit for her....but it turned out it wasn't blood running all over the ground...she spilled her red vitamin water when she fell LOL! But what a scare for us for a while...it was insane! But still...nothing like the near riots they supposedly had at Lolly....I read about them in the papers the next day. I KNEW from the VooDoo exp to stay FAR back....I staked out a spot on one of the hills down from VIP and enjoyed without any drama!

The first time I went was last year. I had no problems with the crowd, except at Radiohead, where I was in a real talky spot, which was frustrating. Other than that, it was neutral. Didn't add to the experience, like at Roo, but nothing bad either.
This headliner news will probably get my wife off the fence about Roo because she will be more interested in Beasties/Janes/Depeche Mode at home (Chicago). Looks like soloroo for me...
Just my $.02...Tool will not be at Lollapalooza this year. I don't see them getting off their 'album every 5 years' cycle. I would definitely make the trek back up there to see 'em if they really do end up playing though. I had a pretty good time last year, but that was mainly because it was Radiohead. Lolla doesn't touch the Roo.

Couldn't have said it any better. I WILL NOT go back to Lollapalooza ever.
Every spot at Radiohead @ Lolla last year was "talky." I moved about six times and couldn't get away from it. I went to seven mainstream festivals last year (SXSW, Jazz Fest, Sasquatch, Bonnaroo, Lolla, Virgin and ACL) and Lolla had, by far, the most unfriendly crowd. The food and beer lines were pretty time consuming, too. That said, I really love Chicago and I would consider Lolla again if the lineup was stellar.

this is why I think rage is one of the few bands I'd not want to see at Roo. One of my top 5 shows all time, The anarchy/revolution vibe just doesnt fit. And once they're on stage the pit is INSANE. I was like 16 when I saw them and right up by the front of the stage. Pure mayhem.

i thought i read that colplay had a big gap in their north american tour around lolla too. oh well, that definitely doesn't entice me to go any more. i might try for an early bird ticket, otherwise it may be my first time in 4 years not going.
$60 passes gone.....early birds onsale March 31....don't know how much they'll be yet......no emails yet.....don't really care...not planning on going back...it's VooDoo for me
You are sooo continental! LOL! I have thought about Glastonbury the last two years...even got my registration # and all....but just can't convince myself to spend the $$$.....maybe next year.....is there a good festie in Belgium? I REALLY want to go back to Belgium! ;D
Rock Werchter is in Belgium...last year's lineup was unbelievable, but I'm not too interested in what's been announced thus far this year. I'm looking in to Green Man Festival in Wales. Very small (10K) but looks to be amazing. The last few years have had very good lineups, plus where else are you going to get Cornish pasties and single malt scotch at a festival!?!
