Well I'm not an OLD hippie I'm 43 been going to shows since May of 76' when my father passed on and my uncle took me to a greatful dead show in Tampa where we lived . Now here I am 33 years later over 200 dead shows and all I can say is our gouverment lies not little lies either . One out of four people smoke pot as adults in this country on a daily basis yet we as a group cannot seem to get together and get it leagleized . If we are going to allow are gouverment to continusly do this we have no one to blame because its our sheer lazieness that helps it go on . that is the main reason a skunk lives in my pocket and forever will . I guess you could say that I state with high conviction " they can have my pipe when they pry it from my deadcold hand " !!!!
You didn't happen to go to the show in Lakeland in the fall of '90 did you?
49 for my 3rd Roo, coming w/ my xxyo gf (almost typed it...oops!). We pissed off everyone around us in VIP last year w/ our highjinx (formal apologies to be mailed when I find the stamps)...banished to GA tent-only this year.
Guessing more fun and even higherjinx if that's possible! Watch out CampInforoo!
Turn 50 this year and have granted myself a 7 days road trip to Bonnaroo, Just me myself and I. Last year I went with my husband, niece and her BF and I spent most of the time by myself roaming the highways and byways of The Roo, so this year I have selfishly granted myself the gift of freedom to come and go and wonder as I please. It has been over 16 years since I have had time just for me. If I could I would be Superman and spin around the earth a million times to forward time to June 9 when my adventure will begin. If any of you see a middle age space cadet with a definite ADHD disorder please say hello. Never traveled by myself before and I am euphoric with thoughts of futuer memories I will be creating.
Oh I agree - it does take more time to recover then it used to - but it is soooo worth it - I just program the day after we get home as an off day and have warned my boss that I'll be there Wed - Friday the week afetr 'roo but not to expect alot
When the Dead were plying in '04 I had this same conversation several times;
Me; "Yeah, I saw the Grateful Dead for the first time in 1981"
Fellow Roo'er; "Really, I wasn't born yet"
It was the same converstion this year, just change band name to The Police.
This made me laugh.
There is a post in the Phish at Roo thread from a girl who said she's excited to see Phish live because her daddy used to sing songs from "Picture of Nectar" to her when she was a little girl.
I felt like a damned fossil hearing that. Nectar came out in 1992!!!

The title of this thread kills me . Heres why last year at roo I danced my but off at mmj with a 68 year young lady and we enjoyed the entire set with smiles on our faces all night . Leaving at dawn with a smile and a wave I told Arlene that she was how I intended to be at that age and much older .

^^^ditto, im only 20 (thread takeover!!) but when im that age as well i plan on enjoying myself just as much as anyone else that is "young." The great gift I feel I have now is that I know age is nothing but a meaningless number, and i plan on being an exception to the "rule" that old people are not fit for..."young" fun. We'll see how i feel in 30 years
to all you "old timers" out here, I look forward to meeting you all and chillin with the vibes on the farm! (anyways, older people normally know how to party better and smarter than their younger companions, at least thats what i've encountered)

I am in my early 40s and maybe I am in better shape now and I don't really party anymore like I used to. I have no problem keeping up - it has actually got better, the more Roos I go to. I think I have just learned to pace myself well. I take naps in the shade in Centeroo and that really helps a lot. My teenagers (who also took naps!) are usually worn out way before I am.

Mojoworks we all felt that way at our first eye openning expierence . I see you came out of it and now are a family member for life . now just bring a newbie along and introduce them into the world of peace love and total respect for your fellow human . I try bring one along every summer .
I just turned 40 on Thursday and hubby is 36 yrs young so I guess this is where I belong. I couldn't imagine when I was in my 20's liking this age and as I get older, I think its the greatest thing! I'm more relaxed, happy etc. I also have more money to do activities like these festivals.
As for sleep deprevation- my solution for the festivals was sleeping during the headliner if there was a latenight I wanted to see.

Wnet out and helped the kiddies build a snow forts yesterday I'm 43 they are in there late teens of course they "know everything" thats why my fort not only lasted the entire fight but is the only one left standing . Went snowboarding and again I'm the one not beat up at the end of the day . Kids think just because your older your not going to be able to hang all day or night I just love proving them wrong .
My kids are 19, 17, 14, and 5. My 19 year old and her long long standing boyfriend of 6 years, are planning to come with us to Mountain Jam! This will be their first festival!

How old would you be, if you didn't know how old you are?
It's all a frame of mind really. I enjoy the music, always have. I like hanging out with the younger crowd because it keeps me on my toes. The enthusiasm and the pure joy of living in the moment can't be beat. Roo is the (muddy) fountain of youth - get wet, stay that way!

I totally agree with you - most people I know are surprised when they find out my age.
If I didn't know what my age was, I would say I was in my early thirties ;D
As a bystander for the late '60s took notes that I apply everyday...
Look for something you've never seen before. Help someone you will never see again. Laugh harder than you've ever laughed before. Meet someone that will be a friend for life.
I agree, my knees, hips and acid reflux remind me of my physical age but in the recesses of my brain I am still 18. Peter Pan has nothing over me except I can hang a lot longer now. When I was 18 I'd pass out, throw up or just collapse. Now I have the knowledge and experience that lets me enjoy those late nite jams till 4am.

Me too but it is my ankles and hips that remind me. I also agree - as I have gotten older I have learned to pace myself more and can manage to hang a lot longer then in my youth
