i guess i'm just kind of lost as to why this 50 recent posts link is really THIS important. i never use it myself, so i guess that's why.
i just think "hey, i wanna talk about music at bonnaroo"...and i go to the music board. or i think "hey, i wanna talk to people going to roo from texas"...and i go to the rides board. i dunno, seems simple to me.
I don't even navigate Inforoo using a recent posts feature. I go to home and then drop in the various sub-forums. It's not like those of you who use the most-recent list are forced to use Inforoo that way.
In the most recent game of Mafia (a busy thread whose frequency of posting has also been complained about here,) I wrote a story to kill Rooconteur off via trampling by the vaginal marching band from Christmas on Mars. I never received so much as a warning, for the record.

I don't use the 50 recent posts but there are people that do and that is how they are used to navigating Inforoo - the most recent posts is prob how they have always navigated Inforoo and to ask them to deviate from that because a small group of people can't keep their peckers in their pants and want to turn this into somesort of soft-core porn site is just wrong.
I could care less about the mingle thread (other then when they are blaming me for crap I haven't done) and yes - I have posted in the sex at Bonnaroo thread (but I can also say that - unless something has recently changed - it's not that graphic of a thread.
Truthfully - this is Inforoo - a board about Bonnaroo - music, art, fun times, blah blah blah - I am not interested in (and not sure why anyone would be) reading about people's personal sex lives in detail when I will potential be meeting these people IRL or maybe camping next to them.
There are just certain things that are not fit to speak about in public and - in my old-fashioned mind - they should be kept private
Well someone could just edit the link on the thread so they are redirected to chat. Which is probably the most appropriate place for all that stuff anyway.
Around Inforoo, I know obscenity when I see it. It is replaced by the following words: nuts piss quack Ann Coulter peener puffer motherquacker, man bewbs
^ Inforoo's replacements for Carlin's seven words.
We also have filters for things like: NO NO WORD!!! I HAVE NO DADDY! Ann Coulter Summers breeze hey nanny nanny
I didn't see any filtration of "camel toe" in either the original post, an earlier re-quoting of Creep's post in this thread, or when I use it in quote marks to discuss the situation.
I'm going to admit, I found that post kinda funny. I asked Kelaroo, and she said she's not personally offended.
I don't know how many users have been banned from here while I've been around, but I can't think of any that have happened until now. I don't know the situation between Creep & mods; he could've been warned prior to that post and that might change the situation slightly.
However, NBF, I know you work in law. I know you know what ex post facto means. Creep didn't say anything in what I saw quoted that even violated the Inforoo filters. Isn't that the working definition of obscenity here?
Is this all in response to what I said? I was just referring to your use of the legal terminology, not the substance of what you were saying. Thought you might know the reference. Anyway, I'm bored, so I'm going to respond to what you said.
But first, I have no opinion on Creep's banning. I don't find what he said particularly offensive, and I don't know the whole story. I never look in the mingle thread, and I never use the most recent posts function, so none of this discussion up to now affects me in any way. However, I do like to debate (some would call it arguing), so:
Assuming that we are going to apply ex post facto concerns to this forum, I don't think that banning Creep for saying that necessarily would create an ex post facto problem. He was banned for violating the obscenity rule, right? The rule has been in place since long before Creep signed up, and I don't think we could possibly limit a working definition of obscenity to words that trigger the filters. It's possible to be quite obscene without using words that are even remotely objectionable on their own. On the flip side, I think you could use the phrase camel toe in such a way that it would not be considered obscene, at least by board standards (i.e. "I passed this woman the other day, who had the worst case of camel toe I've ever seen." It brings to mind a gross image, but I don't imagine that anyone would consider it obscene.).

This thread made me sad.
I like to post in the mingle thread and also peruse the rest of the boards. I think both sides have valid points, but I don't see much in the way of compromise taking place. Sometimes when the mingle thread is only three people going back and forth, I think it would be reasonable for them to take it to chat more. Yet at the same time, I really do think that as long as people in the thread are following the rules of the board, then they should be allowed to continue the thread.
What I find disappointing is not that some tensions arose about this situation, because there is always conflict like this on messageboards, but I just thought this board would include more compromise and less "two sides bickering". I do not really fully agree or disagree with either side, but I hope you all can find a way to enjoy this board to make your Roo & life experience better.

I agree with this.
Honestly I'd rather a chatroom of that nature not have the inforoo name associated with it, but I do agree that certain stuff should be in a chat room of some kind and not on the board.

I more so meant that when there are two or three people going back and forth in the thread, like happens quite often, I feel that could take place in a chatroom.
I DO use the 50 most recent pages and it is frustrating sometimes when I have to maneuver through almost 40 posts from that thread alone. But that's not the issue at hand.. Sorry. :]

no one is forced to read it. everyone has their own lines, and everyone has their own ideas of what is appropriate to talk about. if we stay within the guidelines of the site, there shouldn't be a problem.
you are also not forced to use that function in order to navigate the site
Which is exactly what I said.
If you don't like the most frequently-discussed topic on the board, don't use the option that makes you read the most frequently-discussed topic on the board.
Just out of curiosity, mods... which one is the default setting?

I assume that was aimed at me and you're right - no one has to read it - except for those people that use the 50 recent posts to navigate through this site and as I stated before - if that is what they are used to using and have been using long before the mingle if your single thread because very active and graphic - they why should they have to stop just because some people want to put their sex lives out there in writing for everyone to see. There are other websites for those sort of things

Default Setting? 50 most recent posts is just a link.

Exactly. It's optional. Nobody's being forced to look at the 50 most recent posts to get around Inforoo.
Its a function that people shouldn't be afraid to use for fear of seeing something not safe for work, obscene, or overly offensive to them.
This, and our mods should not have to spend 40% of their time trying to decide which sex talk is obscene or not. Really if you would not say it in front of a 16 year old I would be just as happy if you left it off inforoo. In other words gratuitous nudity and body painting discussions are pretty much ok. What positions everyone is going to have during the tent orgy, should not be brought up in public. I am not a mod, and it is up to them what they want and dont want, but I have always interpreted the rules and vibe here to be pretty much keep it a PG 13, not a hard R.

Just so everyone knows - I'm working on a thingy where you can set threads that you don't ever want to see. They won't show up anywhere whether it be 50 most recent posts or otherwise.
It is far from done. Don't count on it anytime soon.
HOWEVER, even when/if this option becomes available people still need to keep to a certain standard.
When you are about to post something, just re-read your post.. count to 10, and think about your post and who it might offend.
First of all, Creep didnt post the word "cameltoe" he explicitly used the "P" word. Dan modded the post to cameltoe.
Second, Creep is gone for good, period! We gave him plenty of chances, warned him over and over that if he didn't cool it he would be gone, and he just continued to make a game of pushing the envelope.
The decision was not made in haste as we knew there would be some that would be upset to see him go, but we can not continue to allow one user to get away with everything he did. Had he straightened up after the first, or second, or maybe even third warning, he would still be here. He made the decision to continue push and mock us, so, per the rules of the board, if you cant play nice, your gone.
I have not really read much of that thread but I have to say.... This is without a doubt the most up tight website that is supposed to be full of "free spirits" I have ever seen. Really!
No one is forcing you to log on and participate here GF. I am sure if you look, you can find a site that better fits your needs.
Thats the attitude I am talking about right there. See I have stated my opinion and you disagree so whats your solution??? I should leave.
Is it like exile, where he's sent away for his transgressions for a period of time and allowed to return? Or did he just receive the Inforoo death penalty?
