i believe i went in 03 and 04. 03 was one of my best concert experiences. it was definitely during halloween and i saw string cheese for the first time and i was front row and then for galactic i was able to watch the show from a viewing area above the stage which was awesome and the guitarist from sci bill nershi was chilling up there with us
Alright, now I am seriously considering going to this, pending the lineup (minus KISS, I've seen them twice in my short life). I've never been to NOLA, and this sounds like a good reason to make the trip to me! Now I need some advice and tips on where to stay
And the voodoo site has taken down last year's schedule. Can anyone help me out there??

VooDoo is my most favoritist fest I've ever been to! (...besides Bonnaroo)
The music goes all day on 3 main stages and some small tents until 11PMish Fri-Sat, and 9PM on Sunday... set times last year were about 45 mins-1:30 for day acts, 2-2:30 for headliners.
There is no crossover on the two biggest stages, the only conflicts come from the 3rd smaller stage and the tents
The vibe is extremely laid back
It is in City Park, which is beautiful and has giant awesome Oak trees
We stayed at the Marriott on Canal last year which is an easy cheap straight shot by Streetcar to the park. Last year the Mariott offered a special VooDoo deal for $100/night... they haven't posted the discount code on the site yet this year (last year it was "Voodoo") , but they haven't posted any Hotel info at all yet...
Last year I met up with several other inforoosters down there and had a blast, and this year I plan to do exactly the same!
And besides all that, there's not much that can beat the French Quarter on Halloween
^^ Thanks for the info, LRH! What time does the music start on Friday? I'm curious how many days off I would need to take.
I did check out infovoodoo, but I couldn't find much. If I do decide to go I will most likely sign up for an account there though, so you all better watch out!

I can't remember exactly... I wanna say the gates opened each day at 11 or 12, the music at 1 or 2PM? I have last years schedule at home, I will try to scan and post it tonight for reference...
I think a good plan is, you should roll into NOLA in the AM on Friday, check in, get lunch and a few drinks in the Quarter, and then roll onwards and into the fest... that's what I did each day at least

I can't get my schedule to scan so it's legible enough to post, it's tiny print and gray on gray ...but it was music 11-11 on Fri/Sat 11-9ish on Sun... and here's the two alternating main stages from last year on Saturday to give an idea...
11:00-11:45 Jessica Lea Mayfield 11:45-12:30 Black Tie Dynasty 12:40- 1:30 The Knux 1:30- 2:25 Dead Confederate 2:25- 3:20 Innerpartysystem 3:20- 4:20 Manchester Orchestra 4:20- 5:20 Lil Wayne 5:20- 6:30 Thievery Corporation 6:30- 7:45 Mars Volta 7:45- 8:45 Ghostland Observatory 8:45- 11:15 Nine Inch Nails
There was also 4 other stages/dj tents that ran from 11AM-10PMish, we got there between about 2-3PM each afternoon

gates open 10 or 10:30, music starts at 11
typically a local band that won the spot starts off each day on the playstation stage at 11
i've gone the last two years and have been somewhat disappointed... saw a great devotchka set last year, though
i live too close to pass up the festival, me and my gf are always renting a room at the prytania oaks hotel (3.2 miles from city park, 0.8 miles from french quarter) lovely victorian style rooms for only $90-$110 a night
so if you're going to voodoo, always check out the after parties at venues in the french quarter... and buy some damn hand grenades.... it'll make for an overall worthwhile 3 day/night festival experience

Thank you sooo much! So there's no overlap on the two larger stages? Niiiceeee.
Looks like the roommate and myself will be going! The time off from work is secured, and we're buying our tickets this weekend. Now I have something to look forward to after Bonnaroo!!

They actually have a pretty good setup right now where the two stages are at opposite sides of a field. You can basically just sit in the center and catch every show without having to move. And there is often very little downtime between shows. Some artists actually get cut off, like Lil Wayne. He was a bit pissed.

Last year the lineup came out exactly one week after Bonnaroo... I can't believe Bonnaroo hasn't even happened yet and I JUST got back from NOLA, and already I can't wait to go back in 6 months!
CoS is stating that Beastie Boys has been leaked.....
"Voodoo Music Experience: Slowly but surely, this year’s Voodoo Music Experience is beginning to take shape - courtesy of a few leaks. Up into now, they’ve been intentional (via Twitter), but what appears to be an inadvertent slip on the festival’s website has unveiled the second headliner scheduled to take the stage from October 30-November 1. That would be the Beastie Boys, yes the same Beastie Boys playing nearly every other festival this year. Still can’t complain - Beatie Boys + KISS? Talk about diversity. Specially priced weekend and VIP passes are currently available via voodooexperience.com."
cool. beastie boys and kiss. one more name and i will be sold. hoping for tool, pearl jam, dmb, incubus, jane's addiction. any one of those will get me there.
That's good news to me! If the Beasties are playing VooDoo, I can skip them at Roo and see something else during that time. And KISS isn't my favorite band, but they put on one helluva show.
FYI, the place to be on Halloween isn't really the Quarter..... it's Frenchmen St.
They have some wild & crazy sh*t going on there. If you're in town for the fest, please go there and check out Frenchmen on Halloween night. Trust me it will be worth it ;D

I'll second this!! Frenchmen is the NEW Bourbon, but more local....and MUCH better (not nearly as cheezy and sans all the sex shops LOL!) But...the last few times I've been...just about if not MORE crowded! LMAO!!

The Marriott on Canal is already offering the $99/night rates during VooDoo. My roomie and I are going to try to book ASAP.
My question: is it worth it to stay there on Sunday night, too? Or try to head out of town after the music is over and find a cheaper hotel?
That depends on if it's worth it to you to spend Sunday night out in the Quarter partying. Sunday ends somewhat early, so there are usually lots of people out there that night.
damn they need to release the lineup. so i can get tickets and hotel and all that. the few names we have already are enough for me, but my wife needs to see more.
