Rainy Friday was fine with me, but not so much with my GF! Talk about some complaining Fun weekend though. Thought there would be way more people, and I never did find any free water, which seems ridiculous!

^^^ There were water fountains next to the street, near the Preservation Hall Tent, I think, or atleast one, not sure if more. It also had a low spout, besides the one for drinking, which came in handy for washing mud off flip flops.
Speaking of flip flops, Saturday night I lost mine and my phone and fell in the mud, then walked back to the Marriott, and got right into bed, covered with, by then dried mud. I had been last sighted running toward the front at Jane's Addiction, who I have no memory of seeing.
I figured there had to be a water spout somewhere.....good to know for the future! I'd definitely go back if the lineup was right. I liked the stage layout and the scheduling was fine, though I'd obviously prefer some later shows to the super early ones. The city itself was cool and I could definitely spend some more time there. Lenny Kravitz and Janes Addiction were my favs of those I hadn't seen before. Was a bit out of it for Jane's, but clearly remember Kravitz and thought he was a great preformer/musician. Black Keys, Gogol Bordello and Widespread were all great as always. Silversun Pickups and Wolfmother were about what I expected, both good. Didn't get to spend nearly enough time at the smaller stages, but JJ Grey and Shooter Jennings both sounded good when I was wandering around over that way. The Knux was horrible compared to what I thought was a pretty fun set at Roo last year, even before they got kicked off the stage!, and I was a bit disappointed in The Pogues, but figured they might sound a bit off. Kiss was....interesting. Stayed for a few songs since I was there. A fun experience overall, though much more pricey than some other fests. Camping festivals you can drive to are definitely the way to go!

out of the two water faucets i found, only one was turned on, and at that point i has just purchased a beer...it did seem like a low turnout...however, the only other year i have to compare it to was 07

heres my story had a blast friday dressed as a reggaejunkiejew I rocked out at justice for awhile wasnt as amazing as I expected but fun none the less then I went back and forth waiting for Ween to start... I may be wrong but the Knux went over then finally Ween came on and played an amazing set but it seemed way too short. I ran into lordrockinhood and SouthGA_SpundaySensei sometime that night it was cool to see some inforooers. then I went to bourbon st and wandered around for a little bit kinda took it easy. The next day I made it just in time to check out a little of Gogol Bordello then i wandered around put on my greenman costume and went to check out down only saw the end but it was still pretty cool to see phil waited around for a little bit then checked out the punk legend that is Jello Biafra his show was sick i moshed around for a little bit had a blast after jello I went to see george clinton who i was a little disappointed with he didnt come on stage for the first 20 minutes or so but it was alright wasnt that bad after that we tried to get a cab for a good 40 minutes finally got one and made our way to the warehouse district for a Hot Chip Dj set which was awesome after that we somehow made it back to the hotel. the next day I sat in the grass and listened to panic for a little bit not a big fan but it was fun before the flaming lips i passed out candy to kids dressed as greenman then I watched the flaming lips it was my 4th show and it was the best one i've been to so fuck the haters they get better everytime i see them. then i checked out robert randolph who busted out some mj cover then i watched the end of the meat puppets both were fun. ended voodoo with the 20 minute let love rule with trombone shorty which was actually really good. then i wandered bourbon st drunk as hell good times
overall it was fun sets were way too short for my taste little to no free water is crazy depending on the lineup I'd go back. the turnout looked horrible tho hopefully they still have it next year.

Walking through the French Quarter Sunday morning, no mistaking the wild hair of Andrew Stockdale coming right at me from down the street. Smooth as can be I caught his eye as he passed, "Dude, kickass set!" He grinned back. Supercool moment and major highlight, as was that set.
Jane's Addiction and the Flaming Lips owned the park, Golgo Bordello had me dancin harder than I've danced all year, Ween went on late but sounded GREAT, Robert Randolph brought it as usual, especially during an MJ tribute jam, Kiss was dumbass brainless fun plus fireworks and explosions! Mute Math made me into a brand new fan, couldn't understand a word Shane McGowan sang or said but he was certainly the drunkest person I have EVER seen, um, "performing" on a stage before
I'm leaving tons out, a fantastic weekend all around
I was sitting in my film class Monday afternoon, waiting for the teacher to arrive, when I heard the guy next to me ask ask a girl "how was your Halloween?" She answered "my Halloween was amazing, I went to go see KISS". I immediately spun around and said "you went to Voodoo? No way!" and we chatted for a few minutes about the best shows and other festies. Man, I wish I did something half as awesome as that for my Halloween. I really want to get down to New Orleans one day, and a festival over Halloween weekend is as good a reason as any.

i only got to go friday, which was fine for me because if Ween is on a lineup, all other bands are secondary. The rain and cold were no problem, i had a freaking blast. was there with most of my roo crew (we all live in or around NOLA), and cant imagine a better way to do a festival. Cool Kids were awesome, I think I may have to go get some CDs. Janelle Monae was crazy! I found the black keys a little too noisy and messy, couldnt really follow the guitar player. he's a bit messy. Stayed around for the first 15 minutes of Justice, then headed over to the SoCo stage to wait for ween.
after sitting through the Knux (horrible show) , and 45 extra minutes of sound check, Ween finally came out and rocked the shit out of a set that should've been much longer (thanks again Knux). They opened with "She Wanted To Leave", the last song i expected to hear and probably my favorite of the night, but EVERY SINGLE SONG was a fucking triumph, especially Touch My Tooter, Buckingham Green, and Transdermal Celebration. they even played "Your Party", probably one of the funniest songs ever penned.
My Voodoo was a very good time. I most certainly thought that the fest had a small turnout. I think that most likely had to do with rising ticket costs. I skipped last year because I thought it was an extremely lackluster lineup coupled with rising ticket costs each year. Once again tickets rose in price this year, it was minimal, but still a rise nonetheless.
That being said, I still had a blast. Friday, we showed up at the tail end of the Black Keys, which bummed me out cause I wanted to catch the whole set. What I heard was rocking as normal. We then watched the beginning of the Silversun Pickups, wasn't really digging it, so we just roamed for a while until Justice. Justice was lots of fun, even in the rain. We left Justice a little before 9:00 to catch the beginning of Ween and waited and waited for Ween to start. We left Ween before it started to go watch Eminem, assuming Ween would still be playing when Em was done, we were right. Caught the end of Ween, and I totally regret going to see Eminem haha. Firday night, didn't do much.....went to a few bars in Mid-City that I know and then called it an early night
Saturday, we were in no hurry to get out there.....there was no one that I was real keen on seeing Saturday with the exception of George and the P-Funk. We made it out there in time to watch Big Sam's Funky Nation (always a good show), then made our way to Wolfmother and I loved that. I thought this was better than their set at Roo a couple years ago. We then watched a little bit of Jane's Addiction (which was the only show I was really dissapointed in) then made our way to P-Funk. P-Funk was a freakin' blast. So happy I went to that rather than KISS. After P-Funk was over, we left, swung by the house real quick, then made our way to Frenchman. Had a great time on Frenchman, found some cool bars that I had never been to before (I surprised myself haha) We stayed til I guess 4:30 in the morning (5:30 I guess if you worry about that time change)
Sunday was the earliest we got our there surprisingly enough. We wanted to make sure we saw Brand New, which was a really damn good show. After Brand New, we sat in the grass in the main field waiting for Widespread. We had to listen to the Pogues........wtf was that? What the hell were those crazy, drunk ass gypsies saying? I couldn't wait for that to end. It was almost as excruciating at sitting through MIA waiting for Rage to start in 2007. WSP was phenomenal. They played for a solid 2+ hours, with no break and nearly nothing said in between songs. It was f'ing great. Then we watched the Flaming Lips, and I didn't think it was as good as their Roo set in 2007, but I still thought it was wonderful. Then we made our way to Robert Randolph and those MJ covers were great. That is one man who will never let you leave a show unsatisfied.
Overall, there was only one show I anticipated that I really was unimpressed with, that being Jane's Addiction. Everything else, I really enjoyed and I loved the fact that it was not crowded. We never had a hard time walking up as far as we wanted to go and getting a great spot for any show. We also came prepared with rainboots, so the mud was absolutely no problem wading through all weekend. I'll always be back at Voodoo if the lineup is right, being in my hometown and all, but I really hope that the ticket prices don't continue to rise, otherwise I fear that the fest could go under.........

our group had an amazing time and SO MUCH FUN!! loved every set i saw except fischerspooner...and i LOVE fischerspooner, that was the most disappointing to me. i think my favorite set had to be wolfmother...i mean, they really rocked hard and the lead singer/guitarist was way more personable and funny than i remember. "ah the sacrifice of the girl for the band! send her forward, she'll do" lol
highlight of the weekend was meeting george clinton. he was posted up on the quarter slots at harrah's casino. super nice, here's the pic
oh and here's our group costume, we were beatle's themed:
Yoko ono, john lennon, lucy in the sky with diamonds, sgt pepper paul, sgt pepper ringo, strawberry fields

My camera's been all screwed up lately, so I didn't really take any pics to share But Maniac had a photo pass and literally took THOUSANDS... so maybe he'll get a chance to share a few of the better ones with y'all at some point
Had a great week in New Orleans. Best trip of my life bar none. So many good people, so much good food and so much good music, and that's not even including the festival. We caught Dr. John on Thursday night at the HOB. smurfing incredible. Got right up against the stage. Also caught the Saints game on the Monday after Voodoo, which was pretty incredible.
Voodoo was amazing. I liked that I could get to the front for every show without waiting around for hours beforehand. The mud got a little extreme, but I can deal with that. Did expect the temperature to drop so suddenly on Friday, though. That was a bit of a shocker. I thought Ween, George Clinton, Jane's Addiction, Wolfmother, The Meat Puppets, The Black Keys and Alejandro Escovedo were all fantastic. Jello Biafra's new band was pretty tight, too. Some great covers over the weekend. Alejandro doing All the Young Dudes by Mott the Hoople, Robert Randolph's 20 minute Just a Friend made my weekend. My friends and I had been breaking out into drunken "OH BABY YOU!"'s all weekend, so when Randolph kicked into it, I just about lost my nuts. Managed to meet a decent amount of the bands over the weekend. Had a drunken run-in with Stephen Perkins from Jane's Addiction (he alerted me to the comb stuck in my hair), met a very stoned Gene Ween while getting some pizza, Robert Randolph was hanging out in the lobby of our hotel, as was Lenny Kravitz and Janelle Monae. Talked to a couple of the dudes from Gogol Bordello during PFunk. Great guys. Tommy T wouldn't let us leave until we gave him a "There ain't no party like a p-funk party, cuz a p-funk party don't stop!"
