^In all fairness I don't think any of us mind discussing Rothbury as well. The "Trolls" are the people who come here only to discuss Rothbury, and then do so with the same attitude as that of a Christian Missionary just arrived on a small island full of pagans. Namely that they are here to deliver the Word to us from on high, about the vibe, and how us pagans can never understand it. However they are also the first to cry foul if you point out things like a lack of diversity or the repeats in the lineup, and go back to the ineffable vibe.
There are definitely some Rothbury fans posting in here, but "Rothbury message board trolls"? Other than Soul's and my post here, I've only recognized one regular Infobury poster posting anything in here, and it hasn't been much. So I know I definitely take offense to that comment. Don't forget that most of the Infobury "trolls" came from Inforoo. And we've learned the hard way not to post too much about Rothbury around here without expecting to have our heads bit off.

I truly don't understand the debate on the whole Roth vs roo thing......
that sums it up right there. no one really does, its kind of a mystery why rothbury of all festivals is Bonnaroos "biggest rival" when there have been other festivals similar to it for years. All-Good comes to mind. People would come off a whole lot better talking about how awesome Rothbury can be if they just didnt bring up Bonnaroo at all, instead of trying to throw it under the bus to build up Rothbury.

And the same goes for the other way around.
And I agree. What's the point of comparing fests? They are different. Some are going to like one more than the other. You really can't argue opinion.
So with that being said, why do people compare these two festivals? Was it because Rothbury lineup was announced on the Eve of Bonnaroo tickets going on sale lastyear?

Rothbury was the new kid on the block last year and they really blew people away with their first festival. They had a sweet lineup and apparently an amazing atmosphere. There's a lot of talk about how great the area was.
Anyway....Rothbury raised the bar last year and many of the people who hate on Roo have a new chosen festival. Some like Roth because it's what they think bonnaroo used to be......some just like it better because of the area and lineup.
Either way.....there's a lot of comparison between festivals, but Rothbury was a big deal last year (and this year) so there is a lot of interest.
Roth = Vacation festie for those too t/lame to handle Roo.
Have fun guys! Won't miss ya. Glad you found a fest with air conditioned villas.
was it really necessary to get catty again?
i'm going to both. it will be my third roo, and i'm from south texas, so i can more than handle bonnaroo. not to mention most of the people who frequent infobury are roo crossovers as well.
and a/c villas? do you really think they have a/c villas for all 40-50k people? for the most part everyone is CAMPING...just like bonnaroo. can't help it if mother nature decides to turn on her own a/c 1k miles north of manchester.

Exactly, I'm not saying everyone who likes Rothbury better than Roo is a troll. What I'm saying is that some people have signed up for this site to specifically start shit about why Rothbury is and always will be the holiest of festivals and that Bonnaroo is nothing but a bro fest or an indie festival when we have one of the most diverse lineups around.
I'm sure Rothbury's a great festival, but I just don't get the inferiority complex between the two festivals. It's like comparing apples and oranges. One festival is the biggest grossing festival in the country, while the other is a medium sized festival with a niche audience. Why do we have to fight about which one is better? We can talk about Rothbury without saying "oh it's so much better than Roo" or talk about Roo without "it's so much better than Roth" yet it seems like the argument is alway drawn towards comparing the two.
And no, I don't think that we shouldn't be allowed to talk about other festivals on this board. In the music lounge there is a bracket system going on between Coachella vs. Roo, but do you see Coachella people signing up to post ten times and everyone of those times is about the reasons why Coachella is and always will be infinitely better than Roo? No.
My schedule is shaking out to where Rothbury might be possible, but honestly I'm gonna need to see one more high quality addition before I can justify the time and expense of driving from Florida.
Nondepression- that would make me sad to know that people sign up to the board just to talk dirt about that specific festival. Alas this is the internet and these things happen. Time wasted in this respect is time not spent doing something productive.
I love Bonnaroo! I love Roth! Once I get down to Mountain Jam, I'm sure I'm going to LOVE that one too! Hubby and I are also doing Vibes this year. Once I'm finished up with that festival, I'll just love them all!

Meh, I think those "trolls" are from rothfest IMO, not infobury. From my experience with rothfest (hehe ) I think they're just bitter at Bonnaroo. You hear it all the time, "Bonnaroo is run by MTV," "Bonnaroo is full of custies!" or the ever-popular "Corparoo." The people that feel slighted from Superfly and AC (coughROTHFESTcough) are the same people, or just similar in opinion, as the ones proclaiming Rothbury is the greatest place in the world. They hate Roo for whatever reason, and when they went to Rothbury, they found their saving grace.
Now with that in mind, I've always felt that people tend to take their own negative, personal experiences from Roo way too far. For instance, someone gets robbed at Roo, and they never return because "the vibe is different." Sure, I understand you might be skeptical to return after being robbed, but instead of bitching you could just take precautions that it doesn't happen again. But the main thing is not that "the vibe is different," because it's not, just YOUR vibe was different. These are flaws of the human mind, and will forever contribute to endless debates like these.
Bottom line is that I think Bonnaroo's lineup is still a lot better than Rothbury's. AEG better make some wicked additions (FLips in particular) or it looks like my group will be smaller this year. When it comes to the vibe though, I just feel that Roo is more of a "party" atmosphere and Rothbury is a little more relaxed. That's just my opinion though, because I was still recovering from Roo when I got to the ranch last year ;D

I agree with this 100%. The first two years I went with friends and they loved it. Had great times. The second year on the way back two of them got arrested. Now each year they try to tell me how Bonnaroo sucks and how "there are so many other festivals to go to". I know there are other festivals.....but there is only one bonnaroo. I haven't had a bad time at Bonnaroo yet.....and even if I do - I won't let that ruin it for me.
I never go the whole "the vibe is different" comment from people because I've never felt more happy than when on the farm in Manchester. It's all what you make of it.
I personally LOVE BONNAROO! I travel thousands of miles to go each year!
As for bad vibe, you can get robbed being in your own house...... Does that make your house a bad place to go back to? Nope, just get smarter about how you live. People got bunked at Roth too lastyear.
Life is filled with bad experiences. If you judge everything by the negative things that happen to you, well you may as well lock yourself into a room and stay there for the rest of your life sheltered off from everything.
As far as Bonnaroo having a stellar lineup, Yes Agreed 100%, Rothbury having a stellar lineup Agreed 100%. Theeeee Best lineup is a matter of personal opinion of course, your own taste in music.
