Does The Knife mean anything to you? It's her. Seriously Fever Ray is the #1 can't miss because you'll probably never have another chance again act at coachella this year. Everyone else on the coachella board will tell you the same. If you're not familiar with The Knife then listen to the song Heartbeats and the album Silent Shout. Fever Ray has just one album. Her few live shows that people were lucky enough to attend have gotten nothing but the best reviews. The lazers/lights are amazing, supposedly it's completely trancendant. If there's one show to trip at, it's this one. I need to stop talking about coachella though, it's making me jealous. Just don't miss Fever Ray or that would be an incredibly massive mistake. To nodepression, yea Echo is great and all but you'll have other chances.

The Knife is a band that everyone who's seriously into music needs to know about. They're so original and good. Plus our favorite artists (Thom Yorke, Trent Reznor, etc) often cite them as a big influence. They just never broke out into the mainstream at all.
No, unfortunately I'm not going to coachella this year and definitely not roo. If I still lived in LA I'd be at coachella without a doubt but I live across the country in Cincy now. I just can't justify the expense considering with the airfare and all it'd be over $1000. If they didn't have such a strong security presence and noise curfews then I'd probably be there because it's a great lineup like always. The bonnaroo lineup just flat out sucks. DMB, KOL, D, Weezer, Norah Jones - is insulting to the longtime roo faithful. I've been 04-09, the drive down from cincy is only a few hours but there's no way I'm supporting that this year. I'm going to Big Ears, Pitchfork, Lolla, DEMF, maybe Allgood and ATP.

Why not just see Jay-Z when he comes to your hometown every year? I just saw him and honestly (while his band is amazing) the cheese factor is really high. He closes with his version of Forever Young. Yes, Forever Young (from Alphaville, haha) with the exact same chorus that was cheesey 25 years ago.
Have you not seen video/pictures of Fever Ray's live show? The laser/lights alone are enough to make it a can't miss. If you're going to make the monumental mistake of missing their life affirming performance then at least see Echo or Baroness. Are you going to roo? Jay-Z is there too so if you're going to roo also then there's no reason whatsoever to see Jay-Z at coachella. If you're not familiar with Echo, the album to listen to is Ocean Rain.
jay z was in town last night - missed it, since i figured i would be seeing him at roo / coachella.
i like forever young! but that's a strange closer. if you want a tear jerking rendition, find a video of the yong@heart choir (all senior citizens) singing away... it's tragic.
i have not seen anything fever ray aside from the album cover - so ill look. okay, okay... lasers could definitely sway my opinion. makes me think of ghostland observatory...
baroness is a great name - makes me think of GI joe. no idea on the music.
youre talking about echo and the bunnymen? yeah, ill be there. my gf is a big fan, so it's unavoidable.
I'm more than likely going to save Jay Z for Roo, so that I still have some excitement for his set on the farm. I just wish Bonnaroo would release their schedule before Coachella, so I would weigh conflicts and make better decisions (if only I could predict the future).
That said, my gf and I will probably be spending our Friday night in the Sahara (i.e. Deadmau5, Benassi) I know I could see Deadmau5 at Roo too, but I feel like seeing Jay Z twice would take away more excitement than seeing Deadmau5 multiple times. However, if Jay Z were to ever have some crazy guests, it would be at Coachella...dammit

This would be the worst possible decision. I've seen Deadmau5 several times and he is nothing special at all. Flash in the pan, flavor of the month (which unfortunately became year.) Benassi never plays his good stuff anymore either.

You will deeply regret missing Fever Ray. This will likely be the last solo show in the US from this project.
Obviously, I am a little biased (see avatar), but there is no one I would see over her.
Man, if the Coachella people are close on those predictions, I am going to be quite sad Friday and Sunday night at 11:00ish. Too much I want to see at those times! I also hope Phoenix doesn't interfere with Thom, Jonsi, Orbital or Gorillaz.

I hate to have to do this, but could anyone give me a ride back to LAX after everything is done Sunday night? They just set up a bus that will take people to the festival and back to the airport here, bus2inc.com/bus2inc/coachella.html , but it leaves Sunday/Monday at exactly midnight. I know in the past music has gone after midnight, and I really don't want to miss anything, especially Gorillaz or Orbital. I'd be able to leave Monday morning too if your flight is later. Let me know.

Everybody's not into Fever Ray dude, get over it. Yeah, sure, it's not something you'd get to see everyday, but one person's "best set ever" is another person's "bleh".

Let's also remember the schedule is still TBD...
we were watching FR videos on youtube last night until the shitty browser hung my ps3.
we both liked it, but its really just a glorified Dead can Dance...
that said, my appreciation of Jay Z really started backwards - the grey album and jadiohead turned me on to his talent. then i checked out the "retirement" dvd at MSG. so while i like him, its not like i have this deep connection to him... who knows, i might end up at FR.

I was just giving you some friendly advice to avoid Deadmau5 as it would be a waste time. That has nothing to do with FR. It also has nothing to do with rarity. He's just a boring DJ not worth seeing at a fest, plain and simple.
Oh and people on this board use that "one's man's trash/treasure" saying way too much. It's tired and cliche and the way some of you use it here makes it pretentious hippie BS. It's suggesting that there's no objectivity to good or bad music which is completely ridiculous.

I'm camping onsite.
I'm not sure when my flight is yet, but unless Palm Springs goes down in price LAX is looking like a much cheaper/better option. I'll know within the next week hopefully if I'm flying in to LAX so I'll keep you posted.
By the way thank you for even offering, I appreciate it.
yeah, we had the same problem - flights from boston to palm springs were double the cost of a flight to LAX. and LAX had better times available (i.e. no getting to the airport for 4 am)
The Bonnaroo Vs Coachella March madness thing is going on in the troo music lounge. Fever Ray is losing to DMB. I am not one of the DMB haters, but represent for Fever Ray! 32 days!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pavement is also dangerously close to losing to Dropkick Murphys. I'm beginning to lose my faith in humanity.
Almost everyone I talk to daily (family, co-workers, some friends) have no idea who Wilco or My Morning Jacket are. I've lost faith in humanity long ago.

Alright alright, I must admit, I've been listening to Fever Ray and I can't stop. It's a hauntingly great record. And of course, I too, have a hard time resisting lasers and eerie sh*t. So now it's just a matter of convincing the gf to tag along. We're definitely saving Jay Z for Bonnaroo, but she's a dance fiend and loves Benny Benassi (for some reason) so hopefully we can do both to make everyone happy. Fever Ray has taken hold of me...
