Ok ... but again, that's not what I was talking about. All I said was don't see Deadmau5 because it'd be a waste of time. (Since you like the FR album so much definitely check out The Knife, start with Silent Shout.) Proxy will be probably end up having the best Sahara set of the weekend. Plastikman is also a must see. He's the only 100% live electronic act there and his light show is supposedly going to blow minds. Of course after Daft Punk in 06 it's kinda hard to blow Sahara fan's minds but we'll see. The problem is he'll probably be on the same time as Gorillaz. If Orbital is on at the same time as Gorillaz the board is going to raise so much hell.
orbital vs gorillaz. holy shit, that would piss me off to no end.
on the one hand, ive seen orbital a bunch of times. its going to be a video screen, lights, and those flashlight headgear they wear. last time i saw them was in 2001, the first show i saw after 9/11.
never seen gorillaz. looks amazing. and i love a lot of their music.
i guess i'd go to the gorillaz. but i dont want to deal with that decision. with this discussion, im shocked at orbital's popularity.
btw, fever ray vs jay-z for my gf is a no brainer. fever ray. but i really think she sounds like a hussied up Dead can Dance.

Where have you seen Orbital?
It will probably be Club 75 or Plastikman vs. Gorillaz so you should be fine (although missing Plastikman would suck.) We've all seen everyone in the Ed Banger crew enough times (especially those in socal) so club 75 is definitely skippable.

Never. I wasn't into EDM back then and I didn't even start traveling for music until 2002. I definitely want to see them though. They're much more live than most EDM acts, it's crazy how much they can control though keyboards. I saw a bit of the Orb at coachella last year and it was fucking awesome. I wish I could have stayed but I had to see The Cure.
Hour.....not hours. Only one hour more than usual according to the article. But that's good for Coachella because one of the main complaints i've heard about it is the fact that they can't go super late night. This at least gives them a little more bang for the buck.
But damn are those charges steep for if they go over the curfew:
This year, Goldenvoice is on the hook for $20,000 for the first five minutes past curfew. Then the fee is $1,000 for each minute afterwards.

Would hate to have to pay that.
And that (along with longer set times) is the main reason Roo is the king of the big U.S. festivals. We can listen to music until 4AM or later on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. If I recall correctly, Coachella had to pay a ton of money last year when Paul McCartney's set went over by an hour or so. In my view, the man was a smurfing Beatle and should be able to play for as long as he wants - the festival shouldn't be punished for having a headliner who wanted to give his fans something extra for their buck. It's bad for the artist who doesn't get to play his full set, it's bad for the fans who don't get to see as much of the act as they should, and it's bad for the festival, who either have to pay a hefty fine or get bad publicity for cutting off a legend.

Prince played long after curfew. They had to pay so much that year it was ridiculous. I think it was like 56 minutes/thousand dollars. It was worth it though. Absolutely incredible. Kraftwerk - Portishead - Prince were of the best hours of live music in my life, and I don't realistically think that will ever be topped. As amazing as Prince was, Portishead blew him out of the water. Bands like them, My Bloody Valentine, Daft Punk, etc are what puts coachella over the top as the best fest. Now I kinda wish I would have shelled out the $1,000 or so to go this year, I guess it's still not to late but it would probably be more like $1,500 now that it's so close. What additions did they get besides Bad Lieutenant? They'll be great but that's hardly enough to make up for losing Grace Jones. Rumors are Arctic Monkeys will get added to Saturday but if there are any more additions it's about time to announce them.
Not much at all in terms of additions. Imogen Heap, Perry Ferrel vs someone, and Bad Lieutenant off of the top of my head. They added Prince 2 1/2 weeks before the festival started in 2008, so who knows?
And I agree with you on that Kraftwerk-Portishead-Prince combo. Good times!

^^oh, absolutely. Man, I wish I could have been there to see that Prince show. I can't wait to go some day.
I think Coachella generally has a lot more 'wow' factor at the top of its lineups than Bonnaroo. Sure, Roo gets some amazing headliners, but it's never had Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, Prince, The Cure, etc. However, if you're not one of the huge acts at Coachella, you're lucky to get an hour to play. Bands at Roo play for nearly twice as long, and that's a big factor for me.

Yeah the late nights and the abundance of good NO NO WORD!!! and lack of security are what makes roo a more fun experience overall usually. Coachella has the advantage in the scenery, art installations and lineups with all their reunions and rare stuff.
The Cure last year was smurfing phenomenal. They would NOT STOP PLAYING!!! First they turned off the main speakers but you could still hear them if you were close. I was all the way up front. Then they cut the monitors off so it was even more quiet but the band was still playing. Being that close I could still hear them perfectly playing their old (and my favorite) Cure songs like Boys Don't Cry ... that was probably the best moment of my entire life up to this point.
When is the last time the Gorillaz played? I just know it's rare and I can see why people are buying them so quickly.
Anyone read that shirts from last year are going for 5 and hoodies for 10 in the roller rink Thursday 12noon - sundown? I'm gonna buy an armfull if I can

Roo's not really known for it, but Coachella seems to always have some surprise up their sleeves.

I thought I'd throw this out here, does anyone need a camping spot. I've got a spot all to myself and certainly won't use all of it. So if anyone wants to camp in tent only and use a piece of my land post here. Otherwise someones just going to take it anyway when I get to the fest.
