Anyone interested in a camp inforoo, the coachella version?
I'm in. Campgrounds open noon on Thursday. My flight gets to Palm Springs at 7pm Thurs. Not sure how I am getting to the polo fields yet but I hope to make it there by 9 after stopping and getting a case of beer (this is the first year you can bring in alcohol to camp) and some other random stuff that I can't take on the plane.
I just couldn't wait 6 months for Roo so this sounds like a good half way point
Nice! I need to work out the details, but i'm 90% sure i'll be there
I would be down for a camp inforoo if I'm welcome. I wouldn't really consider it roughing it seeing as how you are camping on lush green grass and there are free showers for all. As for Thursday night activities, there is usually a party sponsored by some liquor company (forget which one, but I think it was jäger) off the campgrounds. I didn't make it in 07 due to all that was going on in the campgrounds.

I know people bring music speakers and have parties in the campground. Now that we can bring beer in i'm sure it will be a bit more wild.
How many tents to a campsite? 55 bucks per site then? Will you or Jigawig be driving? A car would be nice to put valuables in if we ended up camping together.
This line up is too good to pass up. I guess it is subjective to your tastes, but the headliners all the way down are largely composed of recent bands. The Rolling Stones or The Who are some of my favorites, but they are from their creative or youthful primes. To each their own, but I can't see Roo topping this.
It's a good feeling to see that these have been late additions in the past there
Beck Kanye west Madonna Eagles of death metal Of Montreal Aphex twin The Orb Prince Etiene de Crecy Chemical brothers Plump Djs Swervedriver Perry Farrell Z-trip Red Kross Kool Keith MF Doom Blur Serj Tankian Sean Penn Joss Stone MIA Massive Attack

huh, i like the sound of that.
ive been wondering about the scene at coachella - if there is any kind of shakedown - that sort of thing...
^^ I went there in 06 but I camped in Joshua tree so i'm not totally sure. I can tell from the forums that it seems ok. There is a 2am curfew but check out this vid lol

No shakedown, tuff to find "stuff" a whole different trip then the roo. I have went 2 times and camped both times. It is one of the greatest festivals there is in the US but it it totally different then the roo or waka and you have to expect that. The music is more modern, the kids more hipster, and maybe better run. I guess I am saying everyone should go to coachella at least once just like everyone should hit the roo at least once imo. Coachella vets are like roo vets in that in the end, they like their own festival better then the other. cr****
edit: Most people that go to coachella hate hippies btw. And don't I know you? Just wondering
I am totally in for Coachella. Everyone must experience it once in their life. This is my year
You will love the fields. The grass is like carpet and there is no dust. The longest walk is about 15 minutes. A must for all festival goers. This is my year for Rothbury I think. cr****
hey canexplain, i dont think we've met, but we have talked on here on numerous occasions over the years..
my idea of coachella is "lollapalooza in the desert".
anyway, it's not a big deal - i'll take it as it comes. but it would be very doubtful that i bring anything with me due to flying across the country. guess i will beef up my beer budget. strange, in a way, i would think there would be lots of corn available due to it being in california...

The last two years, they have had some activity going on. In 2008, they had a laser light show. Last year, I believe they had some electronic acts performing at the Dub Step dome. I would imagine something along those lines again this year.
I usually hit up a hotel just because it is so nice to be in AC and to grab a shower after being out in the sun all day.
Very solid lineup. Big step up from last year, IMO. If I had the money, I think this might be the year Bonnaroo would lose me to Coachella (of course, depending on the Roo lineup)
but Saturday alone blows my mind, if I could see all or most of these:
Muse Porcupine Tree Faith No More The Dead Weather Coheed and Cambria Les Claypool Mew Old Crow Medicine Show Pretty Lights Beach House
drool.
Two other two days are good too, but to me that rivals the best Bonnaroo days.

that lineup looks sick.i'm gonna try to rally a few troops to go out there with me.not because it's better than the roo,i'm just tryin to chill in cali and see the gorrillaz.anything beyond that would just be a bonus.

I do it when I go to roo, you have to be really conscious of what you pack, but it's totally doable

^ Before all these bag check fees and crazy limitations it was easy, I used to do it all the time, I even was able to take a 10X10 EZ-UP with me when flying to fests... but now it perplexes me as well
Im just bringing a tent in a duffle bag and sleeping bag and then a carry on with my clothes. I am going to buy an air mattress when i get there then donate it to camp councilors on site for a local charity when I leave. It's only 20 bucks and I figure it would cost that to bring it back.
So who is all going on here so far??? Maybe we can camp in the same area and look out for each other and drink some brews before/after shows.

Last year they had a music dome set up for campers after hours. It was pretty good, down tempo stuff. It started after the concert cleared out and would go until about 3 or 4 in the morning.
