for whatever reason, i feel like muse is an okay headliner for coachella, but pretty weak for roo.
im surprised by the number of people meh'ing this lineup. i know its all subjective, but there are some great bands on there...
I'd be pretty disappointed by Muse as a headliner. Lolla had them headline at the same time as Interpol. I think I went to a late night instead, but only two years ago they weren't even large enough to headline solo at lolla.
Off topic but I evidently missed Lady GaGa there in 2007. Huh.
i was at that muse show - what a great set! two years ago hardly anyone knew who they were, compared to today. they are somewhat equivalent to KoL wrt popularity in Europe vs USA.
also - just noticed a few days ago that lady ga ga is listed dead last on my lolla 07 shirt
I bet they get another Sat headliner, I have a feeling muse doesn't take the top spot. I feel like they are going to pull a Prince again.
The Killers had that spot last year. I'd bet Muse is it. They've gotten a lot bigger over the past couple years.
Everyone saying Bonnaroo won't be able to top the lineup and headliners, I wouldn't speak to soon. They've kept REALLY hush hush this year. I bet good things are in store
I have a point system for festivals like Coachella to gauge whether I should go or not. For Coachella, I need to hit 100 points, with 3 points for must see acts and 1 point for acts I'm interested in seeing. There's also -1 for an act that is a complete turn off. There are 7 must see acts for me and 40 I'm interested in. I'll take another glance over the lineup and maybe that number will go up, but I'm 39 points short.
It's a nice lineup. Ballsy. It lacks the attention grabbing headliners of the past lineups, but it's damn eclectic.

Once again I wish I could go. Saturday is my favorite day, by far. So many bands I'd wanna see on Saturday. Bands I REALLY hope Bonnaroo lands this year off this lineup would include.....
Lucero Deer Tick The Avetts LCD Soundsystem Dead Weather Hot Chip The XX Old Crow Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros Band of Skulls Beach House Camera Obscura Pavement Yo La Tengo Sunny Day Real Estate and of course Thom Yorke

i'm going to try your point system. except i'm not taking away points for someone i don't like being on the lineup. wow i only got 66 points and i think it's probably the best festival lineup i've ever seen. i think 100 is unreasonable.

No band qualified for me this year. The band generally has to not only be bad, but bring in a fanbase generally made up of dbags.
Prince, Radiohead, Joanna Newsom and Tom Waits all count 10 points in my system.
As a side not, Bonnaroo only needs to make 75 for me to go. ACL only needs 50.

Band of Skulls
Ok now I'm getting excited for this Roo lineup.
Yay I am not the only fan around anymore. I want them at Roo

I'm very shocked about the lack of interest in these headliners. Gorillaz is totally a wow act simply because they rarely perform live, and it's an utterly unique experience. And while it goes without saying that Muse is the weakest of the three, they are still a good choice. Remember that last year, after the Macca, they had The Killers and The Cure. Year before they had Jack Johnson (yeah, replaced by Prince). Year before, they had RHCP. By my calculations, Muse is a pretty damn good #3 headliner.

If coachella was geographically accessible for me I'd be there in a heartbeat this year. Their electro line-up is awesome, but I could see most of them at ultra and not need to go to the other end of the country. Also, I realize coachella's headliners aren't huge, but big or not, I like them better than most of the rumored Roo headliners. I'd rather have muse than KOL and I'd rather have Gorillaz than U2, rolling stones, or any of the other proposed classics. I've given up hope for good headliners this year. I'm just hoping for an awesome undercard. If roo can at least equal coachella, I'll be satisfied.

Actually Portishead was the original Saturday headliner, Prince replaced Portishead not JJ. I definitely agree with you though, the headliners are superb modern headliners. Gorillaz is ridiculously rare and makes me extremely jealous (that is unless I go to the festival.)
Plus Thom Yorke! They got freaking Thom Yorke to play, ridiculous.
gorillaz, thom yorke, faith no more have sold me. i know that if these bands tour the u.s. they will never come near tx, so this is a must for me. ratm sold me in 07 based on the fact that it was supposed to be a one-off show (pissed me off when they announced more dates because i probably wouldnt have traveled so far, but i dont regret it at all), and now these bands have sold me. cant wait to get back to the desert!!!
Anyone interested in a camp inforoo, the coachella version?
I'm in. Campgrounds open noon on Thursday. My flight gets to Palm Springs at 7pm Thurs. Not sure how I am getting to the polo fields yet but I hope to make it there by 9 after stopping and getting a case of beer (this is the first year you can bring in alcohol to camp) and some other random stuff that I can't take on the plane.
I just couldn't wait 6 months for Roo so this sounds like a good half way point
I'm ok with the headliners. I love Jay and haven't seen him since the Roc the Mic tour back in 03 (I think) and The Gorillaz will be solid. Muse, I dont care for. I'll go check out some artwork instead or walk over to the Babel Dome and party or something. I hope they pull another add like Prince.
