I figured that the KoL debate has gotten several threads off topic. At the suggestion of a fellow poster, I decided to give this debate its own thread. Fire away!
IMO, they are 'Roo mainstays, but a headliner, come on. AC can do soooooo much better!
i just honestly cant get into them. at first, i only knew their newer songs, but all my friends who love them said to check out their older stuff and ill be sure to like them. checked that out and it's just not my cup of tea. different strokes for different folks i guess
I think a lot of the KoL bashing is because of their popularity and the feelings about this band have changed for many over time. I can remember this board being fans of Leon in the past. But now that the are popular and a lot more mainstream people say that they never liked the band.Do I think they are oversaturated at this point yes. Do I like their latest album...hell no. But their old stuff, I still enjoy.
The only reason that I don't want to see them live on the farm is because their live show is just so boring. When I saw them live it was a big, big let down. Like I said, I don't want to see them live and I don't like their latest album. But I am not afraid/ashamed to admit that at one point...I did like the band. I think that this is the case for quite a few people...that just don't want to admit it because of their disdain for the band in their current form.
THAT'S my point. I own their Cd's. All of them. There I said it. I like their older stuff. Proud they are from Nashville.
But they have been acting like prima donnas lately. Those "Mom Jeans" wearers pay for your records you little ingrates. And I have seen them live. Might as well brought my CD and popped it in my boom box.

First of all, thanks for starting this thread
I agree with mojoworks and gibson in regards to my feelings of the band.
There is no doubt that KoL are a hot ticket item right now. Although, IMO it seems that KoL owe their recent explosion into the mainstream limelight to the soccer moms/teenie boppers of the world. The last time I checked both of these groups were unrepresented at Bonnaroo. So unless there is an influx of these types of people into the farm this year, the idea of KoL deserving a headline spot is questionable at best.

I haven't heard much love for KoL outside of the Top 40 scene for awhile. I never really felt em... I saw em open What Stage in 07 I think it was. Regardless, they will take up valuable space.
I grew up worshipping Rock and Roll like a religion. I know its shortcomings and strengths but have loved it unconditionally all the same since I was eight-years old. I ran away and joined the circus and honestly, I'm still as obsessed as I was as a boy. I'm not a kid anymore but I still remember how it felt and it doesn't really feel all that different to me now.
i like a good deal of kings of leon's music. however they are decidedly blah as a live act, thus i would really hate for roo to waste a juicy time slot on them. they just aren't that interesting.
Don't ever plan to see them. But, I kinda feel pity for them getting put through the wringer around here. Not enough pity to every see them. <That's a period.
i don't know much about them or their history or anything like that. i just find them to be fairly unremarkable, and have not heard good things about them live. i would rather they not be a headliner.
I do prefer a lot of their older stuff but I'm not terribly insulted by the latest album. Although I'm also not one to get worked up if a band embraces uh, capitalism. I also only listen to my ipod or the Alt station on XM but I grew sick of Use Somebody just from hearing it at bars on the weekend, so I can only imagine the disdain for it for the people that hear it nonstop on normal stations haha.
I went to a couple shows last year and had a blast, but you're right...they don't move around a lot, they aren't all that exciting performance-wise, and the arena success definitely equates to an interesting crowd. That being said I always had the best time, but I went with a group of friends that love them the same and we always have a blast...and usually our neighbors have just as much fun.

I agree, well said!
I still listen to their older stuff... Aha Shake Heartbreak is a great album... Four Kicks is a killer song. My like for them has definitely waned since their last album came out and their popularity has skyrocketed. And, I too remember that this board used to be very pro-KOL a couple years ago. But, this IS what happens when a band "sells out."
*shrug*
If KOL was on the farm this year I would probably see them, if no major conflicts. I don't see them being a headliner, but definitely pre-headliner... think Stripes 07.
