2 A KOL fan saying the WS have pretentious lyrics is one of the funniest things I have ever seen
That alone shows that you have NO clue what you're talking about. Either you know nothing about KoL or have no clue what pretentious means. I'm guessing both.
The line that I pointed out would make anyone who appreciates powerful lyrics cringe. KoL doesn't go for any sort of pseudo intellectual lyrics like Jack White. They don't try to have any sort of message. If you want lyrics to have a message that's fine, but actually take some time to make the message in the least bit original and well thought out. It's like if Bob Dylan just wrote a simple dumbed down line like "politicians use people" instead of writing the entire song "Only a Pawn In Their Game".
Half of KoL's lyrics are about prostitutes, getting drunk and sleeping with underage girls. Not exactly "White Americans got nothin' better to do? Why don't you kick yourself out, you're an immigrant too."
Using one line of a song to define an artists lyrical quality is ridiculous.
"This party is overrated, But there aint shit else to do She's a lovin' on a boy from the city, I'll be lovin' him under my shoe "
KOL lyrics straight from the garbage. You can refer to my signature for some early Jack White lyrics.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
The line that I pointed out would make anyone who appreciates powerful lyrics cringe.
White Americans got nothin' better to do? Why don't you kick yourself out, you're an immigrant too.
Doesn't make me cringe. But then I also enjoy lyrics like:
A South politician preaches to the poor white man, "You got more than the blacks, don't complain. You're better than them, you been born with white skin," they explain.

So exactly how many times and in what years have you seen them live?
KOL has no show to speak of, and offers nothing than the same music on their albums turned up to an ear bleeding volume. .
I respectfully disagree with this statement. Granted, their Roo shows weren't examples of a spectacular stage presence, but their other shows definitely offer something different. They have plenty of big screens with cool videos that are associated with the songs. They also move around a lot more than people give them credit for and rock harder then on the records. They may not turn a 5 minute song into a 10 minute song......but it's definitely better than just plugging in the ipod to an extremely loud speaker and hitting play. Check out some of their videos on youtube labeled "Live at the O2".
i've seen'em 6 times from 2005 to 2009. i like'em. but i can see if some people don't like'em. everyone has an opinion, but some people think their opinion is "correct" or whatever.... and those people are called @ssholes...

Agreed nate. I too have seen them live before and like them.........though I understand why some can hate them with such a passion. I can relate, even if I disagree.
Where a band like My Morning Jacket......I can not understand anyone who would hate them and don't want to know anyone that does.

I have only seen them at 'roo, Exit In, or Mercy Lounge, I cant speak for any of their other sets. Like I said though every show I saw was a pretty big snoozer imo.

Maybe they learned from those earlier shows and that's why they've added all the stage glitz and glamour. I know you're not alone in thinking that. I enjoyed their Bonnaroo 2007 show but still feel like it woulda been better received in a tent or maybe the Which stage.
IMO kings of leon are more fun in a smaller, more intimate setting like the Orange Peel in Asheville or even the Tabernacle in ATL than a huge festival
I'm certainly no garage rock expert, but you are incredibly wrong.
Explain to me how I'm incredibely wrong? have you listened to aha shake heartbreak? btw I'm coming as a long time poster on infobury, this site is cool because im getting good info but you guys should be nicer in how you say stuff. Peace and love brothers and sisters.
For some incredible garage rock try The Sonics - Here Come The Sonics!!!, The Monks - Black Monk Time, For Thee Headcoats - Beach Bums Must Die, 13th Floor Elevators - The Psychedelic Sounds Of The 13th Floor Elevators.
Sorry if I wasn't nice enough to start with, but KOL aren't great in any genre you want to put them in.

6 times.
When I saw them at All Points West they didn't seem too into it, but their sound was still perfect. They seem a lot more into it at their own shows because they actually have fans there who are digging them. The crowd at APW was pretty dead, making them seem pretty dead. Like I said before, I'm not a big fan of bands trying to get fans to clap along and stuff like that. Whenever Caleb tells fans to sing along it's more of a joke I think (He usually does it for Sex on Fire and he HATES it when everyone sings Sex on Fire). You can diss them for being "unattached" to the audience, but their sound is still perfect and they're always dead on.
“Why is marijuana against the law? It grows naturally upon our planet. Doesn't the idea of making nature against the law seem to you a bit . . . unnatural?” -Bill Hicks
i guess that depends on your definition of "perfect"
there are more than one definition for the word "perfect"? really?
lol but I know what you mean. It's more opinion and musical taste. I wouldn't call KOL perfect but I also wouldn't call them shitty. But that's just me.

I wasn't calling them a "perfect" band. I was just saying that their sound live has been just as good or better than the album every time I've seen them.

That's because it sounds JUST LIKE the album, hence the argument that we might as well get a band of circus monkeys up there and play the CD over the PA...

So is Radiohead a bad band? All their stuff live sounds exactly the same as their albums. Not to mention they played mostly newer, ambient crap (In Rainbows, ) when I saw them.
KoL's stuff does have some subtle differences live compared to their cd versions, but you'd have to be a fan to realize.
And to all the people who hate on them for their latest album: If they're a headliner at 'roo they'll get like a 2 hour time slot. They usually do around 23-25 songs in 1 and a half hours so 2 hours would probably be 30 songs. Only about 6 or 7 of those would be Only By The Night songs at most. That means 23 or 24 songs off their first 3 albums. Some people posting on here talk like they'd only be playing their new album, but if you like the older stuff, I don't get the hate.

IDK why you assume that everyone on this board creams their pants for Radiohead. You are right in the respect that Radiohead's live sound is very similar to the album. However, the stage presence and live show doesn't leave me wishing it had just been circus monkeys and a PA...

Probably cause every time I've looked at a festival message board over the past 2 years there has always been people creaming themselves over the possibility of Radiohead headlining.
Thom Yorke wiggling around like a dweeb doesn't really add anything for me and I have a feeling if Caleb Followill wiggled around like that you'd want to punch him in the face even more.
