The crowd at APW was pretty dead sober, making them seem pretty dead sober.
They sounded okay, but funny you mention them, because Radiohead owned that weekend.
Actually, what I remember most about their set was Caleb chugging at least half a dozen beers on stage "because none of you people can"
The crowd was thirsty, the least he could have done was handed a few out
Haha. I think his quote was more along the lines of "I heard they aren't letting you guys drink too much out there. Well they didn't say anything to me." And then he chugged a beer. ;D

Good memory, I guess you really are a fan after all
I'm with you man. To me clearly KOL have much superior music compositions along with better, more relate-able lyrics.
On a scale of 1-10 how much pain did that quote cost you?
Well to be honest I just spent the last 5 hours reading boring poly sci crap, and I'm very upset at life. Either the KOL as a great garage rock band or Pearl Jam as a terrible headlining choice guy might get it.
^A couple of things. I agree with you on the Radiohead thing. I like them, but I could care less if they came back.
Second, I don't want to punch Followill in the face.
Also, I don't hate KoL, I just don't think they have ANY business being an unopposed headliner...
I didn't say UNOPPOSED, but there are people on here saying they should be billed as like the 10th-15th artist. I'm not in favor of having any bands unopposed on a weekend of over one hundred bands. I just don't see how, in any way, shape or form, 60 year old Beastie Boys deserve top line on the poster in 2009 and Kings of Leon don't deserve top line in 2010. Same for Jack Johnson and Kanye West in 2008 and Ben Harper in 2007.

It's not about where they should be billed. No one thinks they should be billed 10-15, and if they do, then they're stupid. Obviously they are really famous, and have reached an amazing level of commercial success. The thing is people don't think they are artistically deserving of a What stage headlining set.

"I think the REAL 'Roo discussion over KOL is not whether or not they are wanted on the farm it is where do WE('Roo farm goers) set the bar for their billing... is it 4th or is it 14th? I have no problem with KOL being somewhere between 10th-20th on the line-up... if they are 4th on the line-up 'Roo is setting the bar too low for me to consider 'Roo one of the best line-ups! and here is my argument why... in '07 they opened What Stage... in 3 years no band should deem the jump to top 10 on the 'Roo line-up. And 2009 was the first time they where selling tickets to their own shows for over $50 a ticket... one year alone does not deserve top billing! So, as I wouldn't mind them being on a good big stage like they deserve, it seems more appropriate that they take the Which Stage in no headliner form. "
"I agree. I wouldn't put them as headliners, but I would put them in the top 10-15 on the lineup this year. They are Roo veterans and gained a lot of fans and exposure recently. I do agree that they don't have the following of some other headliners and also aren't as big as some of the names like Springsteen and Pearl Jam.
I really like KOL as a band but if they were one of the 3 headliners.......I'd think that's a mistake. "
1) I don't know in what world Jay-Z displays more talent than KoL. 2) If the lineup went by TALENT, I don't think Elvis friggin Costello would've been listed after SNOOP DOGG last year.

KOL sux..... Seriously though you have already said they are better than, Phish, or The Who, how many more genres are you going to tick off.

I like them equally to phish but i've never been a huge phish phan. Moe. is a much better jam band IMO....but the who....The Who is the second best british band of all time. (to the Beatles of course)

Umm listen to albums like Reasonable Doubt and Blueprint and you will see that Jay-Z's flow and lyrics are incredible. They deal with real-life situations and the hardships of transforming his situation through hard decisions. I know that last sentence is kinda glorifying what he is doing, but in the end I think he deals with real shit. He also has critical success in both albums and live shows. Comparing KOL to him musically, I would say they aren't even close. Jay-Z is one of the greatest rappers ever that is still very good. KOL are now a mediocre pop-rock band propped up by the record industry and top 40/MTV type media.
In 40 years when people are going to be talking about the music made in the 90's and 00's Jay-Z will be one of the first people mentioned both by music obsessives, and the general public. To wrap it up SAT style Jay-Z is to Michael Jackson as KOL are to Milli Vanilli.

Jigga is the poop, no doubt, & I'll agree he's single-handedly influenced music more than KOL probably ever will. That being said, they're going to be relevant for some time to come whether we like it or not.
are they innately extemporaneously improvisational? of course not -- no Jammys in their future. a one-trick, lip-sync'ing pony? hardly.
lotsa folks don't dig it (dyjosu, the sooner you figure this out, the better), but lotsa folks do.
Give me the Who in their prime any day. But don't give me the Who with 2 of their original members who are over 60 years old and act like it's the same thing.
And rap guy: the entire rap genre is "propped up by the record industry and top 40/MTV type media."

Hahaha rap guy. I was talking about Jay-Z, who you insulted in your post. Jay-Z's talent, classic records, and live show stand on his own. It's not like we are talking about Flo Rida.

really? the entire rap industry is? i dont recall hearing a whole lot of Common, Mos Def, Black Star, etc on top 40 stations, if on the radio at all, its a hip hop station.
for me in rap theres Pop Rap and Hip Hop, for the most part what you will hear is Pop Rap. Jay-Z is one of the few Hip Hop artists u will here on the top 40 stations. another would be somebody like Lupe Fiasco.
most of the true rap artists dont get much play time on the radio, so dont say its all propped up by mtv
3) NIN, Springsteen, The Who, Phish, Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, Beastie Boys, The Dead, The Rolling Stones, and many more.
If you think that KOL is better than this list of bands as they are right now, then we are never going to see musically eye to eye, and I bet you are under 25 years old.
That's because it sounds JUST LIKE the album, hence the argument that we might as well get a band of circus monkeys up there and play the CD over the PA...
Not to mention they played mostly newer, ambient crap (In Rainbows, )
Did you seriously just call In Rainbows ambient? Hahahahahaha

I'm under 25 and I love Bob Dylan, The Clash, The Stones, The Kinks, Hendrix, Lou Reed, Sonic Youth and a lot of other older artists. But none of those artists are in their prime anymore, and I'd prefer seeing good bands who are in their prime as oppose to seeing a band simply because they have a bigger name.

its probably not KoL themselves so much as the people (looking at you dyjosu) who try to make a mediocre band out to be something amazing that makes it so irritating.
the best song on aha shake heartbreak doesnt touch the worse song on in_rainbows, and they dont sound like aha shake heartbreak anymore. radiohead continues to redefine themselves in a positive way, KoL has managed to go from a unique and interesting sound to putting out two garbage songs that repeat the same phrase over and over, yet somehow either of them get more radio play than ANYTHING else out there.
now i wouldnt even feel the need to shit on them so hard if some people werent acting like they are god's gift to rock and roll. they are an insult to it, and it especially pissed me off being a MMJ fan. talk about a huge gap in talent, and for whatever reason, popularity.

it's also irritating when people act like Radiohead is God's gift to music even when Thom Yorke sounds like a prepubescent girl struggling to grasp the english language when he sings.

You seriously need to stick around for the next week man, you're making the wait for the Bonnaroo lineup a lot more bearable.
