Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Okay, thanks for making that clear because it wasn't. I can accept you as a prophet now. Just realize, these arguments never started with Rothbury was better than Bonnaroo, they all started here years before that with this whole Bonnaroo was better than Bonnaroo thing.
You can blame Radiohead, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, Beck, and Cypress Hill for custies like me. If they had not all been at the top of the bill that year, there's a good chance I wouldn't have driven the 2000 mile round trip alone, and then kept coming back year after year with more and more of my friends.

I hope you both realize that the way you continually try to mock and patronize me as well as your failed attempts to defend something that I love as well is a prime example of what I mean by saying that roo has changed.
Honestly it sounds to me that unless someone agrees that bonnaroo is the best thing that ever happened...period than their opinion is invalid be it me, hippie, or anyone else. We have friends that go to roo and friends that go to roth. Friends that have come and gone from both, I offer my sympathy for them and you each custie me for it? Ironic that neither one of use use the heady system... I WONDER WHY.

^^ are you implying I "custied" you? I have 358 of those stupid things. I don't care about or believe in them is why I turned them off, but here's one for you since they seem to mean so much to ya', you can have them all for all I care
*edit - looks like someone gotcha again while I was typing, but I gotcha back to "102"!

Sometimes I think you don't actually read the posts, but just skim through them. We don't care if you say that Bonnaroo isn't the "best thing that ever happened," every one has an opinion and there are many things that go into having a good time at Roo. However when you get to a point where you've made your point over and over again, and respond to criticism with personal attacks and conspiracy theories, well then we fight back.
And I don't have "heady points" turned on because I think it sounds stupid, that's it.
Also if Lordrockinhood, one of the nicest, non argumentative people on the board is disagreeing with you, maybe you should pay more attention to what you're writing and how it's coming across. Just my opinion of course.

to me this argument is akin to saying "you don't support the troops if you're against the war"
on both sides, people basically seem to insist that loving both fests, but preferring one over the other isn't possible. just go where the music takes you, and don't go if you think things have changed, or if you're happy where you are. that's why roo will be on the back burner for a while. doesn't mean i'm not still excited to see the lineup, or that i hope it sucks for anyone.
i'm very saddened by rothbury's cancellation this year, and not even because of a lineup, or a forest. because it was quite possibly the ONLY time i may have gotten to spend with friends who live across the country from me. and i'm sure people feel the same way about bonnaroo. i know friends who have family reunions at bonnaroo, so it's not like these fests are that different other geography.
You can blame Radiohead, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, Beck, and Cypress Hill for custies like me.
but perhaps it is the filter?
Maybe I was unclear before beause I do love roo and I never said I didn't. I just think if is sad that roth fans have lost their fest and I would hate to see that happen to roo fans. Imo, yes the festival has undergone several changes that make the future of this fest and others pose a concern... especially with the recent dismissal of so many festivals.

^^ I used the word custie to describe myself because it is the word dudewheresmyroo made popular around here by always using it to describe the people who "ruined" Bonnaroo... and i think it's funny to be one.
Anyways, yes back on topic, any lost festival, but especially a big camping one, should be a sad day for all the members of inforoo... with that, i agree

^^^ your previous comments basically amount to musical snobbery. whoaa you were the first, it was so much cooler back in the day. all you noobs are ruining it. blahhhh
so tired of hearing this. reminds me of the tea partiers who want "their country back"

Phish closed down Bonnaroo in 2009. Trey Anastasio Band closed it in 2002.
It hasn't changed that much despite what people tell you. It's still grounded in it's jamband roots, penchant for being "green," and community aspect. It's simply capitalized on it's enormous success to broaden it's horizons, while remaining true to it's origin.
I've never missed a Bonnaroo and I think what superbek is saying is silly. Bonnaroo has changed, but it hasn't changed in the dramatically over-exaggerated ways that some feel it has. Personally, I probably won't be able to go back in 2010, but for reasons above and beyond lineups or "changes.". I look forward to returning soon, and if the lineup is sick like it always is, I may have to go up for a day or two.
Anyways, I'm rambling, but what I'm saying is that I went to the first Bonnaroo, and I've gone to all of them. Don't ever let anyone tell you that because you went in 07 or 08 or 09, that you didn't go to Bonnaroo. It is just elitism from people who feel the need to aggrandize their own experience by tearing others down who weren't as fortunate to be there when they were.
I've been a Phish fan for a long time and it's the same attitude you encounter from elitist "veteran" Phish fans who chastise younger fans because the younger crowd wasn't there in the 90s like they were. These people believe that everything from the past is better, and the future can never be as bright as it was in the "glory days." I stand here today to tell you it's a load of hogwash. It's just not true. Phish's music, like Bonnaroo's lineup ideology, is grounded in the same basic tenet: to push the limits of the music lover into new territories he or she has never experienced. They both do it in completely unique ways, and the point is not to top the music of old or festival lineups of old, but to continue to press the listener or attendee to challenge themself and discover within themselves in the context of a live music setting.
I firmly believe that has been the mission of Bonnaroo from the outset, and that mission hasn't changed, which is why the lineups have.
I can also tell you that, as amazing as thouse early Roos were, there was no music in the first 3 years as good as Radiohead in 06, Tool in 07, and Phish in 09. The early fests were great experiences, unique and masterful exhibitions of live music, Just like Bonnaroo continues to be today.
Guess what guys?!?! Your festival got cancelled. And you know what?!?! Bonnaroo is still going strong. That means Bonnaroo pwns your festie and all you custie loosers that went there should totally regret your totally lame @ss decisions. I don't know much, but I do know we should totally fight about which fest is better, and which crowd is more headie than the other. Cause, you know, that's what this board is all about.
When the dodo bird went extinct, I'm sure there were people that missed seeing them around. I'm just guessing no one missed the dodo birds that shat all over their front porches and kept them up all night with their squawking.

Superbek had some points. And I understand what she is saying about Bonnaroo being different today but everything is going to change. Still, I was going to let her express her opinions.....
then she told us the government was going to shut down Bonnaroo.
wow
one of the most retarded things I've ever read on this board.
