Idk I mean when you are openly disagreeing with your organization's decision to honor a LGBTQ organization during Pride month and instead opting to do a Christian night, it kinda says enough.
He didn't disagree with their decision to honor the LGBTQ community. He's been vocal about supporting that. He had an issue with one group that he felt mocked his religion. Whether we all agree with him on what the Sisters said/did is one thing, but lets at least be clear about what's actually being said vs what people are just throwing out. People are making it sound like its more than just this one group, and its his stance on the entire LGBTQ community or something.
If you read the article and what he actually said, and not just the headline, you'll see his view/stance is pretty nuanced. He's a good person who has done some really great things not only in his community, but in other areas of the world. I see people trying to group him in with others who are simply bigots and have said some pretty dumb shit. And that's weak...
I did read the article. You can donate lots of money and do charity work and still be a bigot, lots of rich people fall into that category. Not to mention that a lot of his work abroad falls under the category of missionary/white saviorism. Just from reading up on the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence a tiny bit, they have done a lot of good work with a lot less resources and a lot more opposition, but Kershaw tried to simplify them as just an anti-Christian organization. The whole "Christians are persecuted" act is so tired.

White saviorism huh... lol wow. Ok then. He never said all that... words matter.
I'm obvs not gonna agree with everything Kershaw said, but as Bluebus it could be worse.
The fact that guys like Anthony Bass and Blake Treinen said what they did, but Kershaw's comments are the ones people are trying to focus on is kinda sad.

Missionary work is probably the most textbook example of white saviorism. And it doesn't mean that the work he has done is necessarily bad, it could be helpful, but is it what the people who are being served truly need the most or is what the rich, white, American thinks they need?
And people aren't talking about Bass or Treinen because they are irrelevant.

I mean, trying to categorize someone's intent to do something genuinely helpful for others as saviorism and going down the whole "rich, white" road is wokeness at its finest.
Bass and Treinen might not be relevant as players or big names, but what they said should stand out a lot more than what Kershaw said. If someone isn't able to differentiate between those types of comments and ones that are just more nuanced that you don't agree with, it says more about that individual than anything.

Like I said, it could be helpful.. but is that what they need? It's not "wokeness" to recognize that the Western/European world has robbed Africa of wealth, resources, and literal people, its history. Not even talking about Kershaw anymore at this point, but ignoring the root causes of why there are so many orphanages and health disparities in Africa and just throwing money at bandages (while trying to spread your religion) is 100% white saviorism. Don't want to argue anymore in the MLB Mega-thread, but do suggest reading "The Divide" by Jason Hickel to understand more about the structural causes of the enormous wealth gap between Western/Northern society and the global south including Africa.

I agree, we're going down the wrong road for this thread, but you pretty much acknowledged my main point of it all when you said it's now about Kershaw anymore if you're going to bring up those aspects. All those things you mentioned are valid but shouldn't be branded upon an individual when they're truly doing something out of the goodness of their hearts and trying to genuinely help people. They might not be aware or even care of the history, or know how to address the root causes, or understand how to better help. That's all I was trying to say.
Bally's Sports hasn't made their payments to the Padres so apparently MLB owns all our games now. Weird times!
They are doing a streaming package, $75 for the rest of the season, or you can watch if you have cable. It is endlessly aggravating to me that they don't just lift blackouts for mlb.tv subscribers in the Padres area but I guess CREAM.

I think the fan complaints and Bally's shitting the bed has the league re thinking how they broadcast. hopefully it's a lot easier going forward

Yeah that is kind of rude! I guess I'll wait and see if my parents are keeping their cable package, may just watch that way
I mean, they aren't a .200 team, they can't possibly be, right? well...
and I imagine they'll trade one of the few good players by deadline and get worse
3-3 game. Bases are loaded, one out. Austin Hedges, the catcher, is on 3rd, Cutch is on 2nd. Suwinski hits a ball to medium right field. Seth Brown catches and throws to...3rd base?!?!? He got the out - after Cutch (shocked the ball went to third) retreated toward second until Hedges crossed the plate for the rare inning ending sac fly double play.
The starting pitcher for the Red Sox tonight has a 4.50 ERA in AAA. He's 33, and only has a few appearances in the majors since 2017. No career starts in the majors.
And the Red Sox reporter for Mass Live found out about some homophobic tweet(s) from this idiot. Heard on sports radio he might be a believer of John Burch bullshit too, but haven't independently verified it.
The Red Sox are ass this year, and I can't imagine this getting better any time soon.
Might start watching the D'backs. Need to feel good about something.
Fair choice but you might be too late. You could just on the Reds bandwagon now - Elly has arrived, but they've got other guys coming too (he's the best though). It's actually made me a bit depressed baseball-wise.

Elly's looking pretty great so far.
I also play as the D'backs in an OOTP league, which is why I was thinking their direction. They seem to be building something good over there, at a fraction of the cost of the Dodgers and Padres.
