Hey guys. A friend of mine just called to say that he'd just purchased me a ticket, will be renting an RV, and has hooked us up with some big crew. I've never had an overwhelming desire to go to burning man, but it seems like something I should do. I'm pretty experienced with big festivals like 6 Bonnaroos, 2 Woodstocks, 2 Phish fests, etc. (this is obviously very different). However, for some reason, I'm terrified of burning man. I'm really scared. I guess my fear is, what if I'm not man enough for it and I want to leave, but then I'm trapped in the desert for a full week. Am I being stupid?

Stupid, no, but I could think of some other words. J.K. Burning Man is not like any of those other festivals. There, you're are under the mercy of the promoters and planners, at Burning Man you're the Burn, you or we make the Burn special and unique with what we gift and who we are. Fear is a good thing when attending Burning Man. You will touch all emotions when in Black Rock City. There will be good times and not so good times, and then quacking great amazing times! Like when that dust storm hits at 10am on Monaday and is not over until Thursday. That sucks. It could happen, prepare for it. Or when you decided to go on a random adventure and then you meet the person of your dreams, literally, that does happen. Prepare and you will be fine, the better prepared you are the better your Burn will be. So stop being "stupid" and get ready for the greatest week of your life! ;D

That sounds like something for the baking thread, this thread is about a place where people rip off their clothes and set their aura free, a place to dangle your toes in the desert sand. Which I will do that for you Frank.
"seems like a ripoff." and it totally is, Larry has a master plan. We are all sheep in his pasture. I mean, look at it. It is hot. It is dusty. Then it is windy. You have to bring your own food and there are no trash cans and you have to carry all your stuff home with you, including your trash! It is in the middle of BFE!!! Cell phones do not work. There is no running water and no public showers. did I say it is dusty? Caddy, I will see you at Bear Creek and I will tell you how much burning man sucks and why one should not go.
Ey I have a few friends who are going to Burning Man this year to do an art installation with lit up sunflowers displayed using electric diodes. Help them if you have a little extra cash - anything would be appreciated at this point: www.indiegogo.com/Sunflowers
My good friend had the pleasure of going this year for the first time (without me, might I add) and said the following article put into words his experience much better than he ever could. Needless to say WE will be going next year.
If your into skin and hoops, Nice video! Longinus, those pictures were form years before this one. The one you liked, one could climb up through those semi-trucks, and to the top, but it gets hot there and it sucks! This year we had a twister or two.

I'm not sure if that explains the nekkid dude or not. i would imagine that a bunch of people are walkin' around in their birthday suits at burning man.

Oh yeah, People wear what they feel like. Be yourself!!! No clothes or very little clothes or extreme bright clothes. There is only one thing, one style that is frowned upon in Black Rock City. That is shirt-cocking! Shirt-cocking is when a man wears nothing, but a shirt. So his "package" is kind of hidden, but not really. Donald Duck is a famous shirt-cocker. If you are going with out pants or underwear, just go nekkid!!! there is a camp the has an air gun and shoots pants at Shirt-cockers. In honestly, It is hot there, but it is a dry heat, not like on the farm! I will take the heat at Burning Man over heat on the farm. It really is a different kind of heat. And yes, I will sarcastically say how BM sucks, it is hot, it is dusty, "last year was better", but TBH, I fucking love it!!! Come stop by at Bear Creek, look for the Under Water Short-Cut Trail and I will show you a taste of Burning Man and how much it SUCKS!

This as been on my bucket list for an easy 10 yrs. I want to go sooooooooo bad. But quite simply from TN the logistics are a nigtmare. I think I envy west coasters for their access to BM more than anything.
Theres just a part of me that has been calling for a visit to the Playa every since I first really started researching it. I even looked briefly into applying to some theme camps where they had spots for people whose situation was similar to mine. Needing to fly....limited ability to bring much, etc. But it seemed most spots were geared towads intenational travelers other than people like myself who just simply cannot take the time off required for driving across the country AND spending a week in the desert. And then theres the cost of said trip.
Maybe one day. Maybe its even for the best I havn't been, because a part of me also is telling me if I go once I won't want to miss it ever again. And thats just simply impossible given my current situation in life. I'll tell you though....I ever hit the quacking lottery i'll be there so fast your head will spin. With the craziest badass artcar I can dream up!

This happened to me. There is nothing like BRC! SURRRRRRRRRRREALLLLLLLLLLL!!!
but like I said, it sucks. I mean like right now, I am talking TODAY, if you want to go to the Palya this year, you have this 5-day window to create a profile and then pre-register your info, you do this, just so you can get an invite to buy one (2 max)of their ticket/s on next Wednesday, the 13th? Who does this? There will be a shit, OMG last minute ticket sale in August, but most tickets will be sold next week.
